honestly, as a 16 year old living by myself (my parents went back to the philippines, while i'm staying alone in a studio until i graduate high school), this really helped! usually my parents would send money over, but since my 16th they've stopped sending anything altogether, so i had to get myself a job, and it was really hard figuring out what i needed and wanted.
Stuff like that needs to be in schools if you ask me. This kind of skills and knowledge is absolutely invaluable and not every parent does or even can provide their children with it. Thank you for this comprehensive guide :)

When I moved away from my parents, I really didn't have any problems. I have learned doing laundry, cooking, and other house hold chores before. What I struggled with was budgeting and adjusting to my new life but as time went on, I learned how to do self control and budgeting.
Speaking of pens... any idea what kind of pen or marker she is using @2:47? I paused it to get a close look and I can’t figure out the name, saw your comment and figured you must know your stuff :)

Astrid Florence yep, all the stuff you should have listened to your parents about and all of the stuff that you should have paid attention to in school but thought you would never need that. Yes adulting is hard but you should have become an adult already having a good idea how to do it.
James Comer Most schools just teach teach academics. They dont teach how to be an adult. Additionally, not everyone has a parent or guardian teach them.
Hi Mariana! I just want to recommend this great app to you if you don't know it already, it's called forest. You set a timer for how long you want to study, and when you set that you plant a tree. Would it be possible to make a video on how you set up your budget planner. Also is the budget planner on a yearly basis where u start fresh each year or is it a continuous record? Thank you. Really enjoy ur channel
take how much you make per month from jobs/allowance and divide it into weeks, you can allocate certain amounts to food shopping, take out, essentials etc but just keeping in mind to try not to go over £30 has worked for me, im not detailed with it. you could look up prices (for me tesco is really close and the prices are online) of stuff you want to buy to help you keep in budget like if you have food to buy you could look it all up and tally it to make sure you’re not spending too much
you should make it on a yearly basis so that you can see all the expenses that are yearly and save up money each month for it. but it is important to go in and change your budget if you come into a different economic situation like if you get a new job, some utility gets more expensive etc.
There's another RUclipsr who does mostly aesthetic and life videos. But she did a vdo on how she categories her money for the month and future. @rhea.y That's her channel. It helped me a lot

Girlfriend, this vid is adorable and helpful. Thanks so much! I’m in my 30s and found it insightful lol. These are tips anyone can benefit from, and a great reminder on why and how we all need to stay organized.
Doing more videos of this would be a great thing, these are topics most people do not really know a whole lot on when they first get out onto their own and it can be quite overwhelming. I suppose it isn't as bad if you have a roommate in some cases finance wise, but still. It did have me thinking a lot of questions and of ideas of how I could make things run smoother so i wouldn't be stressed out for school because of other things going on that I just cannot get a hang of.

I learned a lot when I first moved out of my parent's house. I failed. So, I moved back in. Now, I'm in a higher paying job and about 5 years or so into my career. A lot of these skills are self-taught, but there are a lot of classes out there that help. Though, school's should make Personal Finance a required course.
Excellent video!!! I love it. It give my life a guidance especially sometimes I feel lost in college and don't know how to take care of myself because I lived with my parents before. This is a truly wonderful video! Thank you!!!
Ik this video is 2 years old but extremely informative. No other “adulting” video I’ve watched has talked about certain topics that this one covered. Thank you
I’ve learned more in this 9 minute video about budgeting and organizing than I’ve learned in high school and so far in my two years of college altogether.
Hi Mariana! I love your videos! I'm planning to move out and I'm really scared about the "money issue". Can you do a video just for budgeting? I'll be really helpful for a lot of people. Thank you so much!!
Very helpful! I will be a first time mom in August and even though i feel pretty confident on how i run things in the home I still feel like i should review everyday adult life and this video was very informative. I love how you included career goals!! i am studying to become an environmental science teacher for secondary teaching :)
this is perfect for generation y and Z who are adulating the best way they can 18-36 year olds! maybe older or younger depends on how you mature and branch out in life good luck to you all! such an amazing helpful video
My personal notes: - budgeting (excel) - meal prep (weekly half an hour, then shop) (batch make and store to save time and money) -groceries (keep a list/excel sheet for pantry and fridge) (always note opened date on packaging) -cleaning (schedule a repeating routine, do a little everyday for a few mins) -laundry (assess clothes ans determine how each are supposed to be washed) (seperate darks and lights, treat stains separately) -documents (divide by function and importance) (choose electronic over paper bills, BUT KEEP TRACK) Lifehack.com -minimalism! Invest in essentials and what gives you value and joy. Capsule wardrobe is helpful -health (emergency contact list, first aid kit) (book all appointments in bulk?) -career/soft skills : writing a cover letter/resume. Attend job fairs. Thank you Marianna!
It is always hard for me to manage my budget during my stay outside the house... I have wasted alot of money during my 1st and 2nd semester ..But your video inspired me to save money and taught me how i can do this ..Thank you so much ..i'll surely follow these steps from now on ..
I’m a year away from graduating high school and I’m aware of where I’m going with my life but I’m still sooo confused about the university part. Here’s some context: I was very good at saving money from my part time jobs growing up, but I came across some problems. I bought a $1500 bike to ride to school and work everyday, I bought a $1000 phone and I pay $80 a month for phone bills, I pay for my basketball fees and finally, I read a lot, I’m obsessed with books so I buy three a month. Other than that I save. In year 11 of highschool my part time work became overwhelming and I developed mental illness from it, even the smallest shift was scary. But after quitting my part time job, my grades at school went flying upwards. I’m now at the top of all of my classes except maths (I have maths dyslexia). Unfortunately with all of these positives, I now have no income. With my parents bothering me about buying a car which should cost me around $8000, I will only have $4000 left of my savings (not including my phone and basketball bills). I have no idea how I’m going to last in a three course over three years with just $4000. I’m also going to have a lot of student debt. Where will I afford accomodation and where? (as I will have to move to the city). How will I feed myself? Will I have to get a part time job? Won’t a part time job take too much time away from school only for minimum pay until I can get the degrees I need for an actual job? What is working a lot of part time jobs on top of school work make me stressed and therefore I won’t study effectively? I have sooo many questions! Help! (By the way I worked in McDonald’s from the age of 14 until 17, and would cut grass around my neighbors farms, used to have a lemonade stand (cliche as it sounds), so I saved up a lot.)
I’m thankful my parents taught me a good portion of these things before I even entered high school. I became pretty independent from and early age that way.
Great video, Mariana! I'd definitely like to see more videos related to Adulting :) Also, I love your Excel spreadsheets for finance and groceries. I've recently created one myself (to keep track of my finances) but yours look so much better! Maybe you could create some downloadable templates and share them with us? :) It'd be great!
You're totally able to survive without your parents' guidance....That's really a bold way of leading life in my opinion. I too love to lead my life independently but I have a feeling of insecurity...Anyway great video....😉😉😉
please can you make a tutorial about how to use EXCEL ? cause your program is so well organised but I have no idea of how to do it ! great video by the way
People need to know this by the time they are 16 in my opinion but sadly heavy majority of 18-25 year olds have no idea how to do this...even older people don't know how. ITs really bad. Videos like this are awesome because they help give people the basic education they need to survive
I love this clip. Especially I was struck by your grocery list cause I'm a housewife. Nevertheless I think you are much better organized than me about that. Thanks for the beneficial video and I want more this kind of. Plus I wonder how you've been fluent in English. If you have time, let me know how you pick up foreign languages. Have a good one.
Add a thing to groceries. - *Invest in the store card:* I have a Kroger Plus Card and I'm able to use coupons and pay less than the average customer. It only cost $40 when my parents bought it years ago, and it has been a worthwhile investment. - *Only buy items on sale:* I have the Kroger Plus Card App on my phone and I'm able to see the sales for the week. You can also look up the weekly ads/sale items online by Googling the store and going to their website. I always see the items on sale and make the menu for the whole week based on that. The items on sale at my Kroger are: boneless beef chuck roast, Angus ground beef (3 pounds for $8.97), boneless chicken breasts, and deli meat. I just had beef stew for dinner and I'm having it as leftovers for my lunch. I'm planning on having sandwiches, spaghetti, cheeseburgers, and chicken sandwiches for dinner the entire week and having leftovers for lunch.
May you PLEASE do a more detailed video on how to create one of those budgeting spreadsheets in Excel. I took a class in Excel and it was very helpful, but your spread looks much more organized.
hi, i absolutely love your videos!! i have been looking for your grocery list/ grocery system one but i cant seem to find it- would you be able to do a video on it? from the glance in this video it looks exactly like what i have been looking for! it would also be cool to tie it to the meal prep. thank you so much for your thoroughness and i really enjoy the aesthetic of your whole channel! xxx
I've graduated and been living on my own for 8 years now, and still suck at budgeting. Meal prep, online grocery shopping (with an annual delivery pass and doing one piece of cleaning each weekend (e.g. hoover and mop one week, bathrooms next week etc. I also keep important documents and bills in a folder, and have a desktop cross shredder to shred everything else. e-books and library instead of buying books and only buying stuff when they run out instead of hoarding a a few months worth of products has also kept clutter at bay living in a small flat
You are never too old for school. I’m 25 and I am going to college. I had to work a dead end part time jobs just to save enough for the two years of college, plus the extra change for emergencies. I’m still at home, but I have a lot of tasks to get done each day, because I live on a huge hobby farm with my parents. I am not lazy, I get up early and work to earn my keep. No work no stay. Cleaning isn’t an issue with me. I am a fast cleaner. I also pay my own rent and bills, every month. At least I am getting out there, it took me 6 years just to save up for college, I worked my behind off for college. I am footing the college expenses myself. I am not spoiled and my parents didn’t raise me that way. Farm folks don’t spoil their kids, they teach them how to do important adult things. If the fancy Ivy League people out there don’t like the humble pie, too bad. Brattitude doesn’t fly in this chicken coop, out in the cold with that attitude you go. So people can say and argue what they wish but I won’t listen. I don’t have time for them.
Track the budget and groceries inventories are good ones. I just need to be more disciplined in managing finances. While in groceries, I need to be more mindful about the foods. Prepping a week in advance during weekend is a good thing since work days are already demanding
Tips mentioned in the video🖤:
1) Having a buget.
2) Meal prep.
3) Groceries list with the basics that you need, check on it weekly.
4) Cleaning different parts of the house on different days.
5) Laundry: a) hand washed or machine washed? b) divide by colour to wash.
6) Documents: organize bills, contracts, etc.
7) Minimalism.
8) Take care of your health.
9) Carer skills: master the basic skill.

- meal prep (weekly half an hour, then shop) (batch make and store to save time and money)
-groceries (keep a list/excel sheet for pantry and fridge) (always note opened date on packaging)
-cleaning (schedule a repeating routine, do a little everyday for a few mins)
-laundry (assess clothes ans determine how each are supposed to be washed) (seperate darks and lights, treat stains separately)
-documents (divide by function and importance) (choose electronic over paper bills, BUT KEEP TRACK)
Lifehack.com
-minimalism! Invest in essentials and what gives you value and joy. Capsule wardrobe is helpful
-health (emergency contact list, first aid kit) (book all appointments in bulk?)
-career/soft skills : writing a cover letter/resume. Attend job fairs.
Thank you Marianna!
Real life adulting 101 class. Thank you for helping me to declare my mind and my newly adult life for real.
This would be a good series I think a lot of people can learn from! Thanks for sharing! 😁
It is always hard for me to manage my budget during my stay outside the house... I have wasted alot of money during my 1st and 2nd semester ..But your video inspired me to save money and taught me how i can do this ..Thank you so much ..i'll surely follow these steps from now on ..
thanks mariana, already feeling more like an adult :)
I’m a year away from graduating high school and I’m aware of where I’m going with my life but I’m still sooo confused about the university part.
Here’s some context:
I was very good at saving money from my part time jobs growing up, but I came across some problems.
THIS IS SO HELPFUL
I like the way you organize your calendar, it will be cool to see how do you set up 👍
SO CLOSE TO 200K!!😍😍
So classy but it teaches me valuable lessons🖋️🗄️🗃️📑🗑️
Thank you for sharing with us so many helpful downloads 💕
Really good video! I would like to see more like this one.
Very helpful since I'm still new on doing any of this. Thank you.
It's really a wonderful video and it is so motivating. Thanks a lot.
please can you make a tutorial about how to use EXCEL ? cause your program is so well organised but I have no idea of how to do it ! great video by the way
People need to know this by the time they are 16 in my opinion but sadly heavy majority of 18-25 year olds have no idea how to do this...even older people don't know how. ITs really bad. Videos like this are awesome because they help give people the basic education they need to survive
Mariana can you please tell us how to study effectively when feeling super tired!
Thank you so much for the budgeting spreadsheet! I just realised how much money I couldve saved if I just kept to a budget! :')
Such a helpful video! Nice one marina
hi, i absolutely love your videos!! i have been looking for your grocery list/ grocery system one but i cant seem to find it- would you be able to do a video on it? from the glance in this video it looks exactly like what i have been looking for! it would also be cool to tie it to the meal prep. thank you so much for your thoroughness and i really enjoy the aesthetic of your whole channel! xxx
This video is life!
I'm glad I came across your channel
i love this video❤️ please do more videos related to this topic, so helpfull! thanks
What a good video! Great explanation, thank you.
Please do more on career skills :))))))))
Where can you find the grocery excel sheet?? Thanks for this video! Its so nice and quicj
So helpful.. something my family or teachers never taught me..
This was incredibly helpful, thank you 💛
Thank you so much for this, it's so useful! can you make a video just on those career skills you mentioned? that would be so useful :3
This was really really helpful
Can you show us a video of how you do your budgeting on Excel? I am in loveeeee with it
You are never too old for school.
I am so grateful for this video🙏🏻✨
Track the budget and groceries inventories are good ones. I just need to be more disciplined in managing finances. While in groceries, I need to be more mindful about the foods. Prepping a week in advance during weekend is a good thing since work days are already demanding
This is a great video😃thanks .
Please more videoes on these topics with more detail😊thank you a gain . Wish you the best
The best video ever!! ❤️❤️❤️
