When you're 8 and this is one of the few games you have on your Gameboy, I guess you have time to find all the secret exits. It's nice to get good memories unburied, though, thanks.
I was born in 90 but completely missed out on all handhelds. I just played this today for the first time and I was blown away! This was such a fun game and so creative. Thanks for the helpful information!
Couldn't agree more! It's a lot of fun and really well made. I was even more surprised to learn it was made by a group in their mid 20s none the less 😂 Thanks again for watching and I'm glad you found it helpful!
I found all of these as a kid, but drove myself crazy looking for a hidden stage in Mario Zone. It's the only Zone without a secret stage, and I assumed there had to be one but couldn't find it anywhere. I explored every pixel of that zone for years as a kid 😅
Nice! I never found that moon one so I just assumed that and the Mario zone didn’t have them for some reason. I think I figured the pumpkin zone had two so that was why 😂 I miss those days when I’d explore stages for what seemed like hours. The Mario stages were probably my favorite looking back on it.
Same for me. I searched in every corner of every stage in Mario Zone but nothing. And now, watching the video i was thinking, "oh, finally i'll know where is the hidden stage" but i was wrong 😂
I swear the music playing @ 00:50 seconds sounds almost exactly like the music for the indie game "Shovel Knight".....everytime I hear this music my mind instantly goes that specific song from that game. You can definitely tell they took inspiration from this game to make that music for their game!
Honestly I’ve not played much of shovel knight but it’s one of those games I need to get to. It looks like a total blast and the tracks I’ve heard sound so good. The music in this game is so good too. It’s so weirdly not Mario, almost Mario wonder like, but that’s why it’s so good
3:18 What you should have shown is that there was an enemy doing "square flying" around that hidden block, which is how you guess that there is something odd.
i remember finding them all by myself decades ago... when You have only a few games You tend to play the ones You have ad nausea... and yet the Space Zone Level is new for me, never found it
Thank you so much for sharing this! I vaguely remembered how to get some of these exits, but the one that I remembered the most was the one in Macro Zone, since, as you said, it’s perfect for speedrunning!
Hi, I also found the secret exits in my childhood on the original GB. They always were a bit wired for me, because nothing happens when you found and clear all levels, not even a symbol on your save. What is the story behind them, or why are they there? Same with that one bat in Megaman X, it seems that nobody has information about that.
It's really interesting. I like games that give you some kind of hint or trigger to let you know that you've beaten the game completely. Otherwise it just leaves you wondering what if...
Playing SML2 on Switch? What's a "Switch"? Oh wait... that the new gimmick from Nintendollars, right? Don't have one. I still play thus classic on my trusty ol' Gameboy!
It’s SO cool to see that this game is available on Switch, available to the generations that missed out on this awesome Mario game. I feel like SML 6 Golden Coins doesn’t get enough recognition when compared to other NES and SNES Mario 2d Mario games. At the time- this was as close as you were gonna get to a version of Mario 3 or super Mario world, on a handheld device. In my opinion it was the best game made for game boy. I’d REALLY love to see some new hacks, using the 6 Golden Coins…software? lol don’t know the technical terms. But a new 6 Golden Coins game using the same stuff, you know what I mean
That would be really cool. It’s such a fantastic game it still holds up so well even now. It’s so weird and interesting in its own way and brings a unique Mario flavor you don’t really get anywhere else. If there was a longer, beefed out version of the game, it’d be one of the best Mario’s ever. The platform it was on limited it in that regard but it still performed.

@@risingsunretro 100%. It is a bit of an oddity when compared to the other titles mentioned, but seriously, like you said- if there was longer, more fleshed out versions, that would be so fun. Just imagine of the developers of Mario 3 could take this games “engine” I guess, and make their version of a full length 6 Golden Coins on an NES cart. Same for super Mario world on snes. We can only hope. The way things are going, I’m kinda surprised some sorta hack hasn’t been made already
TIL there are hidden levels in SML2, I fully played through this game at least 15 times, not once did I find any of these levels. 9-14 year old me is a total noob.
And also that 2nd level tree world where you say grab the carrot to fly across those spikes but jump on those enemies with the shell that turn into bombs but everytime I try to do that and continue jumping I dont get near enough air to clear the spikes I just go up a little bit above the spikes and hover down into them losing the ability?......(edit) I finally got it but by complete accident somehow lol, but for the life of me I couldn't jump off those enemies... everytime I would just hover down into the spikes lol
@@danielblake1537 you can change the colors in the settings from the main Game Boy menu. The flying is difficult. It’s best to tap the button repeatedly as opposed to holding it down. That way you’ll have lots of momentum and should clear the gap without really needing to jump on the enemies too much

Thanks a lot! I sometimes go off in tangents in other videos but I’m glad this one does a good job 😁
Tip for bunny floating: don't hold the button, tap it super rapidly. You won't lose altitude if you're fast enough at it.
That's definitely a good point. Thank for sharing!
@@risingsunretro And thank you for making the video!
I have been playing this game for 30 years and did not know that. I’ve always held the button. Total game changer. Thank you!
Infact, it is actually possible to press it so fast that you _never_ descend at all, but you pretty much have to press at the speed of a jackhammer.
Really? I didn’t know that. I feel like I would have tried that as a child… and maybe I did but the motor skills weren’t there yet?

I never knew about the moon one. I found all others back then, I felt super proud I found everything in this game. Turns out I missed one…
Same here! Although I could never beat the game on normal mode so it was great getting that done after all these years 😂
If you didn‘t find the secret exit in Space Zone, you prolly didn’t discover the hidden message, either. 😉

Just like riding a bike haha
@@risingsunretro I usually get the Carrot first before playing the Tree Zone stage that has the secret exit.
