My grandfather always got his well done. When anyone gave him guff, he went "I like my food cooked. In Vietnam, I pulled a tapewown the size of a belt out of my-" and usually everyone would get more upset about the story to care about his food 😂

I grew up with my whole family ordering well done, so it's what I always did. Went to college, a friend grilled steaks for a dorm. He went to culinary school, didn't ask any of us how we wanted them. Just cooked them all medium rare. My life was changed

I grew up eating well done steaks until I was 19. My family always cooked it that way and I knew no different. My coworkers persuaded me to try a medium rare steak and I about had a moment like that. So much better!
I had exactly the same experience it took me 20 years to find out steak could be juicy and have a pleasant texture
I used to not even like steak when I was young because i hated chewing on it for 45 minutes I grew up the same way that’s the only way it was cooked wether I was at my house or my cousins or my grandparents every time I had steak it was chewy dry and tasteless unless it was covered in bbq sauce I think I was like 14-15 when I first tried my steak medium and man for the first time I knew why people were so obsessed I had never had a steak so goddamn good in my life nothing even on it except a little salt but that’s all it needed

@@deathbone8575 it depends on the meat mostly. If the meat has a lot of fat then even “we’ll done”will be soft (like Kobe for example), but it’s low fat then it will be chewy regardless. Growing up my mom would always buy “lean” steaks because she thought it was healthier. I would be chewing each bite for 5 minutes. 😅

My mother was a biological assistant in university and saw parasites. She always made us have steaks well done. In grade 6 I went to a friend's birthday dinner with his parents on a fine restaurant. In kindergarten they taught me about the germs in meat if you didn’t cook it enough. So I always got well done and ended up hating steak. Soon I learned about medium and my life changed for the better. 😊

Steak and some seafoods are special exceptions. You can eat it raw safely if it's a good quality and prepared right.

If you're ever gonna order a steak medium well or hotter I recommend ordering a fatty cut. The extra fat helps with the moisture loss from overcooking your beef.
If you're gonna order a steak rare or colder I highly recommend going with a lean cut unless you like unrendered fat.
Mid or mid rare are safe with any cut of steak; it's cold enough to not be too dry, but warm enough to render almost all the fat.

If you're ever ordering a steak in France, order the stake one level more done than what you want. For the French a medium rare steak is rare for us, and so on. Also there are "blue" steaks which are seared on the outside and essentially raw on the inside. The reason they are called blue steaks or (steak bleu in french) is because thats the color of the flame.
Also certain cuts of steak benefit from being well done.

There was a vegan restaurant near me that all the vegans and vegetarians were raving about. Acting crazy superior bc the fake meat was "so amazing you couldn't tell the difference." One day, they suddenly closed with no explanation. the vegans were nearly in tears. 3 weeks later, an article came out in the paper all about the restaurant and what went wrong. That day, the vegans really were in tears. The reason the food was so good and "meat-like" was bc the food wasn't fake meat. After a few weeks of terrible sales the owner said fuck it and completely abandoned the fake meat. For months everything sold was real animal protein. Super messed up, kind of funny.

Here's a trick to getting a well done Steak without letting people know that's how you want it, you order a medium well and let it cool down once it gets to the table by the time it cools down it should be well done since it's technically still cooking while it's cooling down.

I still remember my 12th birthday when my mom decided my immune system could handle medium rare. One of the best moments of my life to this day
I was raised Jewish. No blood allowed. Our farm also had very strict butchering practices and although my grandpa sold all usable and edible parts of cows and goats to gentiles, we didn't eat any part that wasn't kosher. My family doesn't practice anymore so they farm differently now but still don't keep pigs. It irritates me when people make a big deal about how someone ELSE takes their steak.
