Hey everyone! If you want to see more great Tacoma content check out my recent Overlanding adventure video where we set out on an epic weekend in the Eastern Sierras: ruclips.net/video/jJLb_Bhwp2A/видео.html
Awesome video guide! I too am a 2nd gen Tacoma owner (2011)! I got the truck back in January of 2021 with 263K miles on it. And the interior was kind of dirty and worn. The previous owner was a dog owner, and I paid a professional detailer to come to clean the interior and exterior. Some stains are still here and there between the center console and front row seats and still have a little bit of odor. I plan on taking the front row seats out to do my own detailing to get the rest of the stains, and dog hair off. And will also clean the headliner as well. My truck has changed a bit since I first brought it. More aftermarket parts for it when I save up some more money! There's just something rewarding about restoring a vehicle to its former glory that just makes it feel so rewarding in the end! Btw, I subbed to your channel!
Thanks I'm gonna do my 1st gen wheel. The duct tape is getting old. The wheel shredded on my like 8 years ago. I think I'm going to look for an aftermarket that's a little bulkier.mine shoudk be a little simpler less electronics.

Couple questions here, did you used the OEM 2nd gen clock spring or you had to change it for the 3rd gen? Did you had to do any additional mods to make it work? Also, does your truck keeps the steering wheels controls? Do they light up at night?
Hey there, thanks for watching!Everything stayed completely OEM. It is s a 2012 (2nd Gen) and all I personally replaced was the actual steering wheel. The controls, clock spring and everything else were the original parts. The steering wheel controls do still light up. I only did the replacement because the steering wheel was in really bad shape from the previous owner and I wanted a nice clean one.
@@alpinetactics thanks for the reply I recently bought an 06 Tacoma TRD off road and doesn’t have the steering wheel controls. I saw that mine comes pre-wired to add the controls and the only thing I would need is the clock spring of the sport to adapt the controls and upgrade the whole setup. Mainly I want to do the upgrade so I can have all the radio controls on the steering wheel and this mod with the 3rd gen steering wheel and controls is very appealing at this moment. Ain’t going to be cheap, that’s for sure
Really good question. I think it’s best just to make sure you pull that steering wheel straight off and don’t turn it while your pulling off the steering wheel. I did it twice and had no issues. I actually takes a bit of force to turn the steering wheel so as long as your not doing that while you are removing it and the wheel and tires are as you said straight to start you should be good to go.
@@alpinetactics Thanks- Did you already have the (audio) controls set up on your truck? I do not, with an '06 TRD Sport, and I'd love to add a steering wheel that does... not sure what all that would entail to make it work with my trucks brains..... thoughts?
@@danielborrer270 yes my truck already had the steering wheel controls. I would want to make sure your truck is pre wired to accept the control connections. I’m not positive but I think mechanically you could but there may be issues with the stirring wheel controls. I would recommend doing some more research before doing it
@@alpinetactics not older the same one like the same 2nd gen cause some come with some ugly looking steering wheel and some have the newer looking steering wheel if you wanna swap from the old to the new you could do that with no problem?
@@vinnys3781 I would probably ask the dealership because I’m not sure the steering wheel controls will work. There is a different looking steering wheel for 05-11 models. They changed it in 2012 and mines a 2012

The steering wheel? Yes, after you remove the hold down nut it pulls off. However, it is a splined fit and will likely be real tight. Maybe try rocking the steering wheel while pulling . But thats the “be careful you don’t smash your nose” part…
@@frankpr9366 I really am not sure on that one. If i had to make a guess i would think that it would but less confident about the steering wheel controls working.
Frok my research basically all steering wheels Toyota uses are the same size. You can swap Tacoma, Tundra, Camry, and even Lexus equivalent wheels. The only issue you will run into is airbag compatability.
Could you tell me where you bought the steering wheel? if you can send me all the information from where you bought it that’d be great. Do me a solid i’d be glad to sub to you!

You do a really nice job on these how-to videos. Great step by step with good supporting video. Awesome!
Thank you!

Great video. This WILL also work if you just need to fix a crooked steering wheel even though the front wheels are aligned correctly.

If you leave the 19mm nut threaded in a few it’ll stop it from getting you if you pull from the driver seat but still use precautions

Any good way to guarantee a straight alignment of the steering wheel when reassembling ? beyond the obvious of be straight ahead to start with?

Is it a 25 or 30 tourq head to remove airbag.
You said 25 in tools needed and 30 in actual removal
Thank you!

Even if you have the other steering wheel the older looking one you can do this too?
I’m not sure the newer one is compatible if you have an older model but the process would be the same.
