    Давненько такого наслаждения не получал от увиденного - тем более Самсонов вытащил игру. :) Матч титанов, не побоюсь этого слова. Чистое наслаждение от борьбы.

    Samsonov in fine style. Such a great player and even in 2015 still going strong. This man is probably the best ambassador for this sport.

    In fact,Samsonov was way past his prime in 2009 suffering a streak of defeats to both Schlager and Boll.It's just that his game was built to counter forehand dominant players of the 90's so he matches well against Ma Long's game exploiting his positioning with his blocking and his backhand game.

    well i give him a lot of credit for changing his game up to stay relevant. He didn't just try to do the same thing over and over and hope for the best.
    so yeah, he's elite again

    This was an epic battle....you can tell they are both surprised at certain points when their attack or return volley misses. Opponent upsets timing or placement. Great respect for both players.

    its not luck my friend. its called endurance. its the reason why samsonovis one of the top 2 most feared players by joo se hyuk. mainly because of his stamina

    • @dickn.ormous1064
      @dickn.ormous1064 3 года назад

      Samsonov is notorious for his lack of stamina which is probably why he has lost 80 percent of his finals against Boll.
      He has good results against choppers mostly because his teammate in Belarus National Team is a chopper and practices with him.

    • @Acnebegone

      @@dickn.ormous1064 After 7 year, I get a reply, wow! Things may have already changed today vs 7 years ago, and Samsonov may already have had stamina issues by now due to age. But years ago, Joo feared both Wang Hao (because of the power and speed on both wings) and Samsonov (due to stamina and defense) at that time, which is very impressive considering choppers are known for their incredible stamina.
      Here's an excerpt from an interview by Table Tennis Daily. I believe this was 2013, and there are many more questions Joo answered there, but for the purpose of the conversation, I'll just copy paste the one about Samsonov.
      *Who are your most fearsome opponents in the top 20? Who do you fear most and why?
      "Wang Hao and Samsonov are the most difficult players for me. Wang Hao seems to have only the pros of the shakehand and penholder grips. His shots are strong and fast, and his backhand is flawless. Samsonov is good at defense and has the stamina that I cannot match."
      Not sure if I can post links, for you to check my source. It's easily googleable though, so feel free to search the whole interview up.

    • @dickn.ormous1064
      @dickn.ormous1064 2 года назад +2

      @@Acnebegone I can post an interview of Samsonov during the 90's saying he can't finish tournaments without feeling physical pain.He always lacked endurance, he is just patient against defenders because he practiced against them since his junior years.Saive who was a physical specimen had very poor results against choppers.It boils down to technique(loop against chop).
      In 1997 Samsonov beat Ding Song who was the best chopper/third ball attacker in the world.So it's not like he beat choppers because of his endurance.Primorac said he was even against Samsonov in their early years despite having worse technique because he was much fitter(he beat him in 2002 at the European Championship)

    • @Acnebegone
      @Acnebegone 2 года назад +2

      @@dickn.ormous1064 it's interesting to see how joo perceives samsonov as having great stamina and samsonov himself does not and says hes just patient and used to playing choppers. I'm a bit baffled to see how much he could've learned vs choppers when the best belarusian chopper i know is his teammate chtchetinine who has an incredibly different playstyle from joo.

    • @dickn.ormous1064
      @dickn.ormous1064 2 года назад +2

      @@Acnebegone It΄s different but still a chopper.There was article about Samsonov's early days in the Bundesliga saying the owners of his Bundesliga club thought he would lose against defense players ¨cause Russian players were weak against choppers but he beat them 'cause he trained with choppers all the time .Also Kreanga was very strong against choppers,he trained with Tsiokas .He did choke against JSH at the 2003 WTTC though but it was typical Kreanga succumbing to nerves.He always beat him in the World Cup.

    sigh, it was this game that really showed that Ma Long, while having incredibly strengths in his game, and while he beat his fellow Chinese more often than not, he still was lacking in the area which the Chinese National team cares about the most, the ability to beat non-Chinese. Wang Hao and Ma Lin almost never lose to Samsonov. Especially Ma Lin.
