    Greetings, Andy. Just wanted to say I'm glad I found your channel when I did, but I also wish I had found it sooner. I recently got back into this hobby, and actually started with a T-34/85 of my own, just without the bed spring armor. Still have it sitting on an impromptu shelf, along with other recent additions to my still growing collection (M1A1 Abrams and a T-62A). Haven't gotten to the painting part just yet, but I certainly know a lot more now than I would if I'd just gone in completely blind. Planning to purchase the Vallejo Rust and Chipping set first, since I want my T-34 to look like it's seen some combat.
    Impressive work on the model, and I look forward to seeing what you do next.

    Very nicely done instructional video. Beautiful build. I really admire all your work. I'm doing the Dragon kit at this moment. I've read that the bed springs were used, in Berlin, mostly to defeat "Molotov cocktails" in street fighting.

    Great video! I think those white turret stripes were meant so that Americans or other Western Allies didn't shoot at them towards the end of the war when they were closing in on Germany from all sides. I may be wrong though

    • @AndysHobbyHeadquarters
      @AndysHobbyHeadquarters  8 лет назад +14

      yes you are right it was id not to get shot by friendlies

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36 8 лет назад +8

      I worded that wrong. I meant they only used the stripes really late war, when they were afraid of the other allied nations meeting them from the west might think they were Germans. Not other Russians

    The 'strike plate' also created that icon clack clack noise on t34s, still used in movies today, along with "jericho trumpets" used on stukas as the dived. Both sounds are popular for war movies, along with movies with tracked machinery and planes.

    Very nice build. I read about the bedspring armour many years ago, but only found an actual photo of it earlier this year. I'm not familiar with Academy Models' products. In my opinion the details of the internal suspension seem pretty pointless, apart from being a tutorial on the Christie system. None of it would ever be seen on a finished kit. Does Academy do a lot of this?

    Hi Andy! I'm someone who has only build snap fit kits, mostly Bandai and one Revell. I'm getting an itch to delve into more traditional modelmaking as well, though. Are there any kits or certain variety of kits you might recommend to someone like me? I'm more drawn towards WW2 tanks, planes and ships I think. I love the look of motorcycle and car models but they don't attract me as much. Sorry for the long post, hope to hear from you!

    • @benweber888
      @benweber888 8 лет назад

      BrendenBuildsGunpla hi! Recently I also came into this hobby as well and I had the same burning questions. For your first 5-10 builds, I would consider making some revell 1/48 planes, the new ones can be quite good. If you are in an area that has access to a lot of airfix kits (Minnesota does not), consider grabbing some of their 1/72 kits because they are also very good. I assume you do not have an airbrush, so you should use either humbrol, Vallejo, or testors model master paints. Check out the modeling channel Quick Kits, as he brush paints and his models are great. In terms of tools, just start with a nail file and a hobby knife. Watch Quick Kits video on brush painting scale models for more information on thinning paint. He also has a video on 25 tips for scale modellers that really help. Have a great time! -Ben

  • @ericgrace9995

    Just a point for modellers " ageing" their tanks.
    The Soviets estimated that the life expectancy for a T34 was 6 months. If the T34 was actively engaged in combat, it could expect to survive for only 14 hours.
    By 1944, German tanks weren't faring that much better.
    That's why T34s were stripped down to basics.....and why going to town aging them is probably inaccurate.
