Love this video - thank you for sharing. I left the place in 1997, remember it well growing up in the 80's. before the cornbow was the "precinct" at the end of it in the square was the "Round house" outside Matthews the butchers and Contessa foundation beauty shop (I think) and the market on the right, next to that was Gateways - opposite was J Sainsbury which went and then became an ASDA. The Wetherspoons pub was originally Tandy next door was Cotterills toy shop if I'm right.. Does anyone remember muffins on peckingham street, the cake shop and also just down from there the pied piper organ sales room ? Used to go to Earls High School too (hated mr mason the chemistry teacher who had an iron bar to threaten the kids in his classroom) The Cornbow was redeveloped in 2008 before that, I used to venture to the wine shop which was where the old bus station was. I have fond memories of this town albeit I'd never return. I've been in London too long !
How wonderful is this to see my old home town, how it has changed. I remember the wilko store being a presto in the 80's and then a safeway. The HSBC used to be midland back and then the Shelter shop on the right used to be Currys. Lytten arms is now the pick apparently. The William shentone pub years ago was Tandy amf Curtis Carpets
I grew up and lived the first 20+ years of my life in Hasbury, Halesowen - so it was lovely to watch your video! I attended 'Richmond High School' [not sure if it still exists?] and remember well going into the 'town' [Halesowen] every Saturday. We would go to Halesowen swimming baths or hang around by the bus stop - there was a really nice cake shop there and we would buy custard doughnuts and flirt with the girls that worked there. If I remember, there used to be a Fine Fair supermarket in the Cornbow and further back up the hill towards Halesowen Library, 'Priests Record shop' - where we spent many an hour! There wasn't much to do in Halesowen back in those days - especially in the evenings! [the Youth Club by the girl's school, and the Lyttleton cinema were about all that was on offer] but it was a nice, peaceful sort of town. During the school summer holidays we would hike our way over to Clent hills or go fishing in the canal on Mucklow's Hill. [the only thing I ever caught there was a cold!] Sometimes we would stray as far as the Essoldo cinema in Quinton - heady days! This was in the late 1960's - and the era of the 'skinheads'. We all went to the Army & Navy shop on the Stourbridge Road [where we bought our maggots when we went fishing] to buy our Doc Marten boots and Parkas. But my parents wouldn't allow me to have a skinhead - so I was a 'suede-head' with my head shaved an inch all over! It's lovely to revisit these places and your youth. To remind yourself of far simpler and better times. I miss it so much.

Lovely to see a video of our great little town . Lived here for twelve plus years . And love Halesowen .
same, my Nan and Grandad have lived her for about 40+ years, and me my sister, mom and dad have lived here for about 4 years now.
Lived here for over 30 years a great video
Nice video I love Halesowen ☺️
Just a minor point the heading at the start of the video states the Halesowen is part of Birmingham, when Halesowen is actually part of Dudley.
Lovely video. I am Halesowen born and bred. Shocking to see it was listed as Birmingham 🙄
That's what I thought, it's Dudley isn't it!

Thanks for the comment, I live in Halesowen I have only lived here for less than 10 years but I love the area.
The cake shop, at the top of peckingham street? Was is called Muffins??
@@helenstone9711 Yep it was. It was a tiny shop. Not far up from woolworths.
Why did you put Birmingham at the start of the video when it's in Dudley?
Birmingham!?!?!?! Halesowen is in the Black Country!
Agree! Love this video and not having a go at anyone for producing it but so annoying that misconception that Halesowen is in Birmingham!
Halesowen has a B63 post code so making it part of Birmingham.

Interesting. My mother was born there and immigrated to Canada in the mid-50s. I think I still have relatives there.
I swear that wilko's is the only place i can get half decent glasses wipes
My primary school was Halesowen church of england so i know halesowen pretty well
Your country is like my name
I miss live without the one way system and coronavirus 😭
Oh my god, it is ridiculous round the Cornbow! It actually makes you spend longer in there and go near more people!
Gosh I haven’t been here for like 10 ish years since i moved
Neither have I, not been since 2009. I'd like to go back, but only to visit, that's about it.
