@@neilbertmillar9960 Super late, but this is a fan theory. Reason why? Kyon unconciously wants something unpredictable, hence he creates Haruhi. Kyon is the only one referred to a single name. There's a lot more to it, but pretty much that.
You can't get the same feeling trying to marathon Endless Eight, or skimming through episodes 1 and 8. The full effect only goes to those who eagerly waited each week, looking forward to a new episode and hoping something would change, not knowing how long the loop would go on for.
filodipicori I didn't watch the episodes as they aired, but when I did watch it, I went in totally clueless about Endless Eight and had no idea what the heck was going on. I remember dropping the show after the third episode a few years ago, but then came back just to see when, or if it ends.
Dude! I can't even imagine waiting for the next episode to have the same plot all over again for 8 weeks- 2 MONTHS! But then when you were thinking "Wtf is happening in today's episode?" You see the final episode of Endless Eight and get satisfied when Kyon finally broke the cycle! I couldn't watch by the time it aired but I guess all of the people who watched it back then when it aired felt the same thing as the rest of the SOS Brigade lmao
What i understand is this. It wasn't about the homework. Haruhi wanted someone of the group to do the ordering around for the brigade for a little, she encouraged them to suggest what to do in the vacation, and she offered the leader position for a day as a reward. that girl wanted a vacation from ordering people around and be ordered around her self. and definitely she wanted her john smith to be the one, and his stupid idea of making the group doing homework just cut it.
I remember how this arc lasted for two months until Kyon finally broke the endless loop. It felt so satisfying. Might be annoying to some, but Endless 8 taught us how Nagato spent most of the time experiencing these loops.
It’s a great experience, I didn’t have the opportunity to watch it while airing but it still took me a couple days. When I read the novel on the other hand, the whole endless 8 was solved in like 40 pages it felt incredibly underwhelming and the arc had no impact
And if WE think that's bad, try watching that 15 000+ times. And instead of twenty minutes, it's two weeks. ... all things considered, Nagato's reaction to it all was pretty mild.
Her reaction to it was not mild. She literally changed the universe because she was fed up with going through all of that, putting up with the brigade’s shit. She had the biggest reaction out of everyone. It was just bottled up due to her emotionlessness
I dunno about anyone else, but I honestly enjoyed every epsiode of the Endless Eight. Think about it, something like this has never been done on television before, it's unique. And even though the plot is exactly the same for every episode, there are minor differences in each episode that keep it interesting, not to mention every episode is 100% re-animated. The Endless Eight is genius, annoying yes, but every Haruhi fan should admit that this was an important part to the series.
I agree! But you gotta take into account that the people who were watching the anime as it was airing had to wait two months to get to the conclusion! I guess you can say it was a bit more immersive for them XD
i think people might've been upset they only gotten 9 new episodes. If viewers were able to get another 9 like an announcement from the studio or something people would probably complain less about it. But I have to see how he wrap it up.
Man i love this show, and also miss it so much. Its hard to explain, but it was so complex and simple at the same time. Nothing flashy needed to keep you coming back for more every episode. I miss these days
At 1:52 there's a split second flashback to the moment in this episode where haruhi says the one who collects the most cicadas "...get's to be Brigade Chief for a day!" This makes clear the missing piece of the summer: that she yearned for Kyon to be her chief, even if just for a moment (she'd never admit this ofc).
@@kozakkin Nah, he's wrong and you are right. Kyon told her that he hadn't finished his homework yet. That thought sat in the back of her mind for the rest of the summer, without her even realizing, but unconsciously, she felt that Kyon needed more time and thus repeated the summer. It was all his fault for mentioning his homework, lol. Cute of her, though.
I remember finding it really dramatic when I watched this. I think Endless Eight is better and deserves more than we give it credit for, even if it could befrustrating.
I actually think it was worth watching every episode. I truly felt that would go on forever and when it finally ended, I felt incredibly relieved and satisfied. You wouldn't get the same feeling if you just watched it once. Any other anime could not do this with the same results. Its Haruhi, and its popular enough to be eccentric (1st season jumbled episodes, endless 8) and still have people watch it.
Creo que voy a llorar. Todavia siento la locura de ver el mismo capitulo cada semana y este alivio de que al fin termine se siente igual que la primera vez que lo vi jaja
First time I saw the end of the endless eight, I felt a weird combonation of epicness, anger, happiness, and stupidity. Epicness because of the music and Kyon's reaction to the end, Anger because the endless eight was drawn out longer than it needed to, happiness because the endless eight was over, and stupidity because the solution was . . . homework. *facepalms*

This scene is why I think at the very least Kyon is a god too, if not the god of the show. "If I don't finish it, my Summer won't end!" (2:15). How would Haruhi know his homework wasn't done? Even if she did why would she care? She'd just use it as something to give him hell for. He hasn't done his homework, so he keeps resetting everything till he does.
As i remember, Haruhi already finish her homework before they start the summer list. I think the reason is more because Haruhi just want to play to Kyon house.
One theory I like is that Kyon actually is god, however he is bored as hell, so he gives Haruhi his powers in order to basically spice things up, and forgets he did so.
I'm new to Haruhi and I started watching anime in 2013 so I had no idea what endless eight meant, I never had even heard of the meme. So I started watching endless eight at 1:00 am...
I can’t believe I watched the endless eight arc but at least I did had fun watching while memorizing. I feel bad for Yuki experimenting 15,000+ times but she managed to pull it up
Lol I watched all 8 episodes in a row. It was pretty painful, they're pretty much exactly the same. It makes a simple moment like this feel very special to watch, though.
During my high school years, my report card started off a little over 90. Subsequently, I got grades in the eighties. It was sophomore year and junior year especially that I got the weighted average 88. I found out about Haruhi Suzumiya during the end of junior year. Senior year: I kept on getting eighties average until finally, I got over 90 for the last mark. Was Haruhi screwing with me that whole time? Hell, it even became a thing for me to complain to the people around me that my average was 88 and not 90 or 86.
I'm part of a generation of weebs for whom Haruhi was considered mandatory viewing. It aired shortly after my induction to weebdom, and I absolutely loved it. Then people figured out the arc is called "Endless Eight" and theorized it would go on for 8 episodes. I hoped they were wrong. Each week I tuned in, hoping it would end. It didn't. Such a waste. After 3 years of waiting, we got 14 new episodes. 14 episodes to tell more Haruhi stories, and they wasted 8 of them to show the same episode over and over again. And to add insult to injury, they never reused any animation. Each episode was animated anew, with slight tweaks to the shots and the dialogs. As if to say "Yes, in case you've been wondering, we're doing this to you deliberately". When it finally ended, I was relieved, but the damage had already been done. I had been soured on what used to be my all time favorite anime franchise. In that group of weebs, there was this guy. We were in the same year in college. Good guy, but he had a slight air of hipstery snobism about him, concerning media he chose to consume. He enjoyed Endless Eight. He told me later that when the arc ended, he stopped watching. He was no longer interested. I should have slapped him back then.

@animeboydx But the real problem is that Haruhi doesn't have any special powers. I mean, it's just Kyon, who loves Haruhi, to make happen whatever she wants. And summer didn't end until Kyon had made all his homework. Curios, isn't it? But I've just read it somewhere, maybe it's not the truth...
