It’s pretty disappointing that Amtrak’s Spirit of California never ran long in service, I would’ve like to see this train service, especially riding aboard it. It must’ve went well running through my home city San Jose, California long before I was born. Also since you have the logo of the Western Railway Museum on one side of the whole video, I have very recently went to that railroad museum the first time back in November 9th.
Please Please Bring back the Amtrak Spirit of California. This was a very useful service and it WILL be very succsssful in the future when it is restored.
Back in the early 80s, when I would get off work late in the evening, I would occasionally chase #15 along El Camino Real, south of San Jose, on my way home to Gilroy. She'd always beat me to Morgan Hill! 🎉
Rode Amtrak alone from Klamath Falls to Davis, CA in 78-83 for holiday visits with family in Sacramento, CA and it was a great ride each time, even met a couple girls my age to sit with for company, amazing times.
Excellent footage! I am trying to see what Sleeping car names were on this train. Anyone able to tell me which sleepers were used? I think the NP dome sleeper must have been a private car which in those years were required to wear Amtrak colors if in an Amtrak consist.
My theory is that the dome sleeper is a private car. Someone must have used the middle front facing dome window which on some domes is an emergency exit and can be opened. Rediculous and unsafe for sure.
That was a great train! Too bad CalTrans did such a poor job of promoting it. Got the privilege of riding it a couple of times when I was in college. Had a great vibe in the lounge car late into the night.

I wish, but since it takes the same route as the Coast Starlight I dont think it will come back sadly

6:36 hilarious!
How did someone get on that dome!?!?

Amtrak has lost more trains than it has created. This is one of those examples. Unfortunately.
