      I think at first every sound would be like noise because your brain never had the chance to create a reference library like infants begin doing immediately. Sound is just energy...it's up to your brain to learn what each signature means. Very amazing process.

      There’s nothing that deaf people are “missing”. They can live full and enriching lives. Oftentimes, they’ve never experienced sound and it doesn’t bother them or make them feel that they’re missing something. Apart from the discrimination they face. It’s disappointing that this technician doesn’t know the language of the people her career centers on.

    One of my ears suddenly lost most of its hearing one day. As a musician, this scared me. I was scared i would forever be half deaf, or one day fully deaf. I was lucky enough the it was just a bunch of wax…but within that 2 weeks of not being able to fully hear clearly was heartbreaking. I realized you can really take things for granted..

      Caro H if we`d be amazed everyday about every thing, nothing would get done.
      I took LSD last week for the first time... I know that doesn`t sound, like it is relevant to the story, but do remember, that LSD allows you to experience the world same way, as 3- 4 years old. When we are at this age, we don`t have fully developed structures in our brain, hence stuff, that is trash to us today, was a treasure back then. We all know what water is, ain`t we? We all know what fog is. But take LSD, go and watch at night, as river slowly pass you by, in a gentle flicker of electric light- lamp on the other side, while vapour forms fantastic shapes just above the water surface... Go into the fields, in thick fog, and watch, how everything around disappears, and there is only star- filled sky above you, that is slowly disappearing in the fog, so then you don`t know, where starts the earth and where skies end.
      If i was in that state constantly- nothing would get done- i`d be too amazed with the world. How come i have so many scars on my body, yet everything works fine? How many things have to work together, for me to reach and touch, and feel? Here we are, separated by great distance, yet you can read my thoughts...
      World is so complicated, that we should go "woah" all the time, amazed, that anything works at all. But if we did, nothing would work in the end...

Woman, mam, If you are living in the USA, ...legally n I hate to put it that way....you are an American Woman as I am, except with your own proud and beautiful African ancestry. I could not say from what country, as I do not know, but does it really matter? In some ways, traditions, beliefs and celebrations....yes it does matter. Different styles of clothing, and food...music....yes it is all different and beautiful and wondrous. Human curiousity is all I possess, and as I get older, and have had and lost friends from different backgrounds...I realize that we have so much more in common with certain affairs, than we think. I have some chronic health issues, and with the way our current media presents, and some of the ways OUR YOUNGER FOLK ACT, REGARDLESS OF RACE, RELIGION, ETC. ...well some of it is simply senseless. Your words are wonderful and you inspired me to say, TAKE CARE N GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS MAM. IN ANOTHER 15 YEARS, MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND OF 30 YEARS, FRIEND FOR 36, WE WILL BE THOUGHT OF AS ELDERLY. I OFFER NOTHING BUT TRUTH AND RESPECT TO YOU, MS. HARDY. from Danielle in South Philadelphia PA. OKAY, I WILL SAY IT, getting older in some ways scares the daylights out of me, but encountering certain tiny pieces, and people on a daily basis have renewed my fairh in God and in life. I will always treasure the ride home from Duke, the day they activated my wife's implant. All the way home she complained I was yelling at her, why were the tires so loud, what was wrong with the car making all those noises...things she had never heard before or as clear. When we got home and I moved her to the power chair, a mockingbird began to sing in the Bartlett Pear by the driveway. She sat there for 15 minutes with such a look of wonder on her face, at the sound she had never been able to hear in her prior 50 years of life. The photo I took of her that day listening to a bird sing for the first time is one of my favorites.

      @Blank I stopped been able to really hear music from round about 1990. What I could 'listen' to from before then was mainly through memory. When I had my implant fitted I was told it was unlikely I would be able to hear music clearly if at all. When I got home on the day of my activation I decided to try and listen to Albatross by Fleetwood Mac and it was really clear. I'm not ashamed to admit tears flooded from my eyes. Since then as my brain has learnt to interpret the sounds again I have reached the stage that when I listen to classical music I can now pick out the individual instruments in the orchestra. I now have twenty five years of music to catch up with.

      @@vortex_1336 I grew up about half a mile from a deaf neighbor in his mid 70's. He'd been deaf since a teenager (baseball accident of some sort). I would mow his lawn and do other odd chores for cash. He was very good at lipreading and could speak pretty clearly, although still had an impediment due to not being able to hear himself speak.
      I remember he said that there was a surgery/procedure that existed that could restore his hearing, but he didn't want it. He was so used to being deaf that he didn't want to have to deal with the potential overwhelming experience of hearing again. His wife was dead already, and all he really wanted to do was just take care of his cattle farm in peace. He had a lot of money and could have afforded it, but he was just comfortable the way he was. He died a few years back.

    • @sabin97

      well technically it is feeling air vibrations....through your ear.....

    • @Napalm38382
      @Napalm38382 6 лет назад +4

      "Vibrations" is how she described it. Which is, well, technically what it is :p Vibrations through the air that you feel in your inner ear, which your brain has learned about. Probably not the same thing we'd hear, at all, in the least bit, as our brain has formed pathways to understand that. Oh you also see upside down with your eyes :p People who are hard of hearing, but not deaf, they might not even know it. Deaf people certainly do, can tell that in infants pretty fast.
      Like a new sense.... Imagine you could detect the heat of anything (infrared light) within a 100 foot radius (like even behind you). (Or if all other humans could, and laughed at you for touching the stove, that was hot, but visually black. When it gets to higher temps, well, it'll come into human visual light depending on the element heated :D)

    • @shaynemc7533

      Diax1324 Well it is all vibration. Everything is energy.

    • @Napalm38382
      @Napalm38382 6 лет назад +1

      Everything isn't vibration.
      Specifically, 'sound' is vibrations through air. (Or other material). That a human or some animal can hear.
      Even in space, someone can hear you scream. (Well, just yourself, probably hear some grunts or maybe a heartbeat. As that'd propagate through your blood to your ears. You'd probably be more worried with more immediate concerns, than what it sounds like though, like explosive lung discharge, water boiling on your tongue and eyes -- Don't worry, it won't be hot, just boiling :) It's energy, though, sure. :p A specific kind that a specific organ can detect.
      I think it's pretty different, than wearing a geiger counter, or infrared goggles. As an augment to senses to you already possess. (Or didn't)

    • @shaynemc7533
      @shaynemc7533 6 лет назад +1

      Yes that is what I meant I should have worded it better lol. It is way to early in the morning for me to write anything overly academic but I was more getting at that all forms of energy stem from or purely are a form of vibration in the transmitting and/or receiving of it. That is why certain Energy based weapons can really fuck humans up, Sound in particular has been used many times for many morbid and ingenious purposes.

      I can't answer for her but I had kind of the same situation with my right ear. My left ear's perfect but the first time I heard (a little bit, it's still mostly deaf) with my right ear was surreal, even though I'd heard all my life, coming from the right ear it was indistinguishable. It was almost like crackling tv static, like I physically felt it all the way in my skull. It was so foreign, like using something that had never been used before. I recognized the audio but it sounded very very distorted like one of those demonic voice filters they use in horror movies. It sounds scary but it was just wild
