    i've found a lot of benefit in experimenting with spiral stability. that single factor has help my design process more than any other.
    great description, best wishes for 2016!

    Wow, so many good ideas you have been given for us Ed. That carbon Fiber Tail section looks awesome. I've always liked those as well as the Bi-Plane idea. Gonna be a great year. Oh yea and all the noob stuff That I still need and enjoy.

    Hey Ed - Glad you're going to be helping us explore RC in 2016! To facilitate the CG discussion, have a look at ocw.mit.edu/courses/...i...labs.../spl8.pdf. I've noticed that non-typical planes (such as mid-wing pushers) have more complicated CG concerns than just absolute CG location. That is, flight characteristics will be affected by Neutral point and Stability margin. These factors affect pitch stability due to thrust, which most folks mistakenly only connect with thrust angle. Anyway, it's complicated but very interesting! Thanks for coming back into the discussion - looking forward to your vids!

      +Mostly Harmless The link to that file seems to be broken... Try googling "Lab 8 Notes - Basic Aircraft Design Rules".

    2016 sounds very exciting for EA!!! The DLG and Speed planes would be really interesting to see what you come up with. I've wanted a DLG for quite some time. The biplane would be awesome to see. Remember a few years back, mrccmtnhill had that awesome biplane in your scratch build contest. What a cool plane that was!!! He seems to have fallen off the Earth. I hope all is well with him. Pretty cool dude. Anyway....I'd love to see an EA Biplane, as well as the DLG and Speed plane. Take care, Ed!!!

      +Scott Jenkin I called it! Man I'd love to be there now. It's 0200 in Richmond, Virginia, east coast US. Two trips over 4 weeks total to Sydney, Coff's Harbor, Byron Bay, Nimbin ;), Hamilton Island and then Melbourne, Barossa Valley, and Adelaide pretty much sold me on emigrating on my next life when I'm a young, single man again. You're a lucky dude!

    What is the advantage of using a flat tail wing, instead of a proper airfoil wing? Would the proper airfoil wing not produce better lift and hence smaller size and weight? Would there be more drag because of the larger cross section?
    Nice to see you back Ed.

    Can't wait for the video about slicing the wing tips off! Great experiment! Awesome video quality, are you recording on your phone?

    • @ExperimentalAirlines
      @ExperimentalAirlines  8 лет назад

      +Chrystine T Yes indeed, it can only end in catastrophe - the kind we like - a crash. Yes, I am reduced to filming with my iPhone. It's all I have left. All GoPros gone to the grave. There are certain challenges, including faking out iCloud while filming so I can load videos direct to iMovie instead of going around my ass to my elbow using the new Photos app. Am I getting too old for this?

    • @chrystinet5091
      @chrystinet5091 8 лет назад

      The mythbusters kind of ending, love it! The iPhone quality is pretty good, stick with it. Maybe try drop box to move your videos from phone to comp for editing? Congrats on the video restart, looking forward to a great season ;)

    Do you have a good website/list/source of knowledge/ where good and cheap foam boards can be purchased in different countries? In my case it's Sydney/Australia?

    • @BenGovett
      @BenGovett 8 лет назад

      +Aleksandr Motsjonov I live in Sydney. Found a photo framing business at Silverwater that will sell double size sheets of good foamboard. It's art grade, so slightly stiffer and heavier than dollar tree foamboard, I pay $12 for a double sheet so equivalent to $6 per sheet. Hobbyking have also just released boxes of 20 pieces of a depron like foam for $20. Would be interesting to see how that goes when coated with tape.
