while this car was a failure, the Xsara and C4 certainly did them a HUGE favour

I would say the BX kinda paved the way for Citroen's success with the Xsara in WRC, in a way they learned from their mistakes

That front overhang alone made it a terrible design for rallying, you'd be grounding it out constantly.
Citroen definitely learnt from it's mistakes though being incredibly successful in the late 90s into 00s.
