- Join us as we spend a day with the elite Newbury Park High Cross Country Team at their altitude camp! The Newbury Park team spends a month training at Big Bear Lake, CA (7,000 ft altitude.) We join them near the end of the camp on a day when they will be doing a 4 mile tempo run, followed by an afternoon relaxing at the lake. We interview coaches Sean and Tanya Brosnan, as well as key members of the boys and girls varsity squads. They share their experiences at camp as well as their big plans for the coming season.
If you like these Episode please give us a thumbs up.
Leo: "I think this year we're gonna shock a lot of people" Me watching in December: Sure did!!
This team has potential to be the greatest team in the history of HS cross country. They are humble, hard working, and respectful. Its so easy to root for their success.
A random high school team in Kenya will lap them in a race 😂
But I do wish them luck they send really good
@@waterproof4403 lmao no
@@aaronvarghese7580 uhh yes
@@aaronvarghese7580 a young boy or girl from east Africa has a more active lifestyle than a university student from the western world. That's just average.. Now imagine the pros
I love how the varsity team just casually runs at a 16 flat 5k pace for a workout. That pace is enough for top 10 in most high school championships.
The fact that they welcomed the solo Pasadena runner just shows what team they are and want to become🙌🙌
Wow that ending is beastly intimidating with the logo and music
They are so strong and consistent in their running, they look like they're jogging at 5:10 pace
When that guy was running with the camera they were cooling down, that was definitely not 510 pace lol
That is remarkable that 2 pair of runners at the same high school are the best in the country.
This aged very well - great job to all!
Greatest High School coach in history! This team loves each other and their coaches. Go Panthers!
I dont know joe newton out of elmhurst york illinois high school is an absoulute legend 20 something state titles look him up
Callin it, only at large individuals have a chance of breaking into their top 5 tonight
A 4-mile tempo should be the staple of everyone's workout! This inspires me to become a better runner.
In a typical workout, how many 4-mile tempo runs would they do and at what percentage of full effort?
These kids are a reminder that the future of track in this country looks VERY GOOD!!
Newbury is the new great oak. They are gonna have a lot of new kids wanting a spot on the team in a few years
HS XC is becoming more popular. I love it! And not everyone can play football or volleyball, so this is a great alternative.
truly the best highschool team that ever lived. ofc i’m jealous
I love how they train for a month! Wy xc team (not as good as theirs) we train every single day all summer! I am working my butt off to try tplo be like them. God bless
It’s cool seeing those boys now break the national high school record!
They did what they came for. Greatest HS team of all time
I’m calling it they are gonna have 5 runners average sub 14
Bet 4 of em will break 14 @ Woodbridge tn and the others will be sub 14:20
They had 4 break 14 and Leo got 13:38
@@megamindvs2514 ik bro that’s insane I saw it in person and got the sticker 😎
@@juanitoe.8415 aw man. Wish I could’ve seen it!
@@megamindvs2514 13:38 WTF😭😭😭
They just won state with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 ending with 16 points. 🤧🤯
They are going to be the best hs team ever
Coach Bronsan sounds like his former college coach, Damon Martin of Adams State. Can't go wrong with that!
As someone who ran on a nationally ranked 2 mile relay in late 90’s I can tell you this team is way beyond anything I’ve seen or been a part of. No wonder they’re the best to ever do it and looks line they’re gonna have a few guys dip under 4 mins this year and wow that’s just unheard of
Colin Sahlman just ran a 3:56 mile and earlier in the Track Season he ran a 1:48.2/ 800m and a 8:32/3200m. Colin is focusing on 1 more 800m race to cap his H.S Career.
He won 2 National H.S. XC Championships in 2020& 2022. He smashed Ritzenhein's 5K XC Record of 14:10 by running a 14:03 XC Race at 2021 Nationals.
I noticed something watching this. Leo Y when he is lite running in a group his head litterally does not bob up and down he looks like a racewalker, this save gas. I think you have it or you dont but you may want to strive for it.
I wanted to jump of the rocks this year and so did other people in my team but wasn’t able to.
SQUAD GOALS… that I never had 😭
5:10 for 4 miles at altitude? That’s insanity
Watching this 2 weeks later NXN 😂 Runninglane is where it’s at
What’s the current best team in history?? I wanna know. Because these guys are gonna be crazy
This team
Legit this team
Looking back after their huge performance at nationals
Nice job y’all!
Awesome video love that team
This isn't a high school team...this is a D1 college team.
Like, I know there's a bunch of sibling groups, but how do they ALL look the same?
My team does it the whole summer except the first 2 weeks
But how can they afford to do a month training camp for a FULL MONTH ?!
Everyone pitches in lol, it’s not that expensive
@@christianhowe8961 no like how can they afford the time to spend a whole month running and not doing anything else like work
@@thatoneguy8190 I’m sure their parents realize the potential the kids have and allow them to go train. Realistically, most of these guys are gonna get their college paid for so that works out to more than a part-time summer job.
They’re going 1-2-3-4 at nxn
There is no nxn this year
it's great to see so many kids working to get the most out of their talent they can. it actually gives me hope when i see so many useless teens around who cant see further than a smartphone.
My question is it legal for this team to practice outside of school as a team. I only ask because when living in Texas this is not legal to do now living in Oklahoma rules are the same. Teams are not aloud to practice as team out of school. Teams are only aloud to practice as a team during school yr. Or should I say only when school is in session. Personally I think it's silly. Because how are teams supposed to get better unless they are aloud to practice outside of school.
Californian runner here - perfectly allowed did it with my hs team this summer too
I’m from California and it was completely legal we did it with my team this summer
In florida we train outside the season as well.
I'm from Boston and my XC Team trained for 2 weeks at the Blue Hill Mountain XC Camp in the Poconos, Pennsylvania during the 70s. We trained/ ran 3 times/day. And our long runs were 14 miles via Devil's Hill.
I wouldn't want to wind up for a jump like that kid and not commit bc you could lift your foot up without the momentum to clear the rocks and hit your head and like a concussion would be getting off easy at that point. try to bring a spring board or a plank to walk out on if you want to do flips
t. kid that did that at a quarry but nobody did flips. we just sprinted out into 20 ft of empty air you know where theres not rocks.
What about Marty Liquori?
All this just for Cantu to burn out 😭😭😭
They make me look so slow… I’m running a 16:42 5k
It's called china islands
They are not going 5:10😭 they are going 7:10
i guess they must be doing 70 miles a week?
Depends from what I heard freshmen do 40, sophomores 50, juniors 50-60, and seniors 60-70
Bishop sycamore is better
Um… nope. Nobody better.
Too bad NXN was cancelled 🥴
A replacement may be in the works.
Yessir, running lane nationals😎
Yep NXN definitely dropped the ball, but Running Lane has picked it up
