This scientist has done a great job communicating with the public. He doesn't use scientific terminology & is very approachable. He needs to be given a much bigger platform. A weekly television program for children, for after school or in the evening devoted to sharks & the plight of our oceans & seas would be an exceptionally good platform.

This was an excellent video! I’m getting into marine conservation and this was so great as a stepping stone into getting more educated!!!

Those "death by" stats are incredible. I never knew this and I am 47. I never looked into it enough to know the facts and I have always been afraid of the ocean because of sharks. Knowledge truly is power. I feel this cause calling me. Let's all educate as many people as possible and keep these amazing animals around for another 400,000,000 years.

Though this is a very informative program, it still doesn't do enough to simplify for the average person the disaster the collapse of shark populations causes to ecosystems & how that directly affects people. People cannot really understand why a shark's life matters to them. Particularly Asian (specifically Chinese & Japanese people) need to be made to understand the devestation they're causing to the world's oceans due to their greed for shark fins. They also need to be made to understand that shark fin soup has no medicinal value, as the fin is made up of basically cartilage & nothing more.

People need to be educated by scientists about the true nature of all animals so they don't think the warmblooded &/or marine mammals are strictly sweet & harmless to other than small fishes, etc... that are their food.
If people were educated about the true natures of all animals versus the "Walt Disney" versions of the natures of animals, their attitudes about all animals would be more mature, realistic & intelligent. Animals & people would both benefit from a more realistic view of animals & encourage humane treatment of animals everywhere.

I lost respect for this speech when he said he didn’t advocate for people to stop eating sharks and called their meat a good source of protein although it’s literally toxic to humans. We need to protect the ocean and stop exploiting it.

one thing i noticed is that at least based on the back of heads most of these are older people to me it would make some sense to have some younger people in the audience to spread the message to the"killer shark" generation

Joseph Dedrick But older people are the ones who grew up with Jaws? I’ve grown up loving sharks since I was little and my parents love Jaws.

If an animal is regularly eaten, wonder if we should farm it rather than depleting the wild.
