  • Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen host Sportscenter to cover the 1998 NBA Draft, the New York Yankees continuing their record-breaking win streak by clobbering the Atlanta Braves, and Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa continuing their epic home run paces.
First overall pick Michael Olowokandi is regarded by Sports Illustrated as one of the biggest draft busts in NBA history.
Five players from the 1998 draft class have played in the NBA All-Star Game at least once in their careers: Nowitzki, Carter, Jamison, Paul Pierce and Rashard Lewis. All of them have reached the 20,000 points plateau during their careers except for Lewis.
**Up until recently, I've been downloading my personal VHS collection. However, the collection is obviously limited. I started a Patreon page to better find and purchase old VHS videos on EBAY and other websites, as well as at garage sales and other locations that might have VHS available, so I can upload them for all to see and share for free. Today is the *21* year anniversary of when this episode of SportsCenter aired on TV. 🤓
EDIT- 10:39 P.M.: *finishes video 1 hour and 18 minutes later*
This was the *sixth* retro episode of SportsCenter that I've seen. The first four were the March 18, 1995, April 16, 2003, May 27, 2000, and June 12, 1996, and June 16, 1997 episodes.

10:49 - One of the best NBA trades/fleece jobs in the 90's. Minus some off years, this trade set the Mavs up for almost two decades of relevancy.

benny robinson ....... ‘twas a different time in the nba. Lot of old school gms around. Robert traylor was really good in college, but the disaster was pierce falling to 9. Best part is mavs got nowitzki and Nash for trash in that 3 team deal!

Love watching this. A lot of these guys I don’t even know. Cool to see the draft before I started watching the nba in 2007.

@@badladyami One of the saddest days ever
Rich Eisen and Stuart Scott were a dynamic SportsCenter duo, and ESPN was must watch TV back then. There are only a handful of people left from that era still at the network (Linda Cohn, Steve Levy, Karl Ravech).

The Mavs got two hall of famers in one night which is crazy. Weird part is the Suns didn't even lose that trade because the pick turned into Shawn Marion. Can't blame the Bucks for wanting a big with how good their backcourt was but man this trade does not look good for them.
