  • Using basic shapes to create creatures is a lot of fun and we often forget the importance of using those shapes. In this tutorial, I explain how using spheres is not only incredibly easy, but useful as well.
Drawing is a skill that most people wish they could do but they immediately put themselves in the category of "Oh, I could never do that." I want to take this time and welcome you to my channel: Draw Sessions.
I've been drawing all my life and have had the privilege of working both for AAA game studios and also movies. I have taught foundation drawing at the University of Cincinnati and it's time now to give back. I understand the frustrations of learning art in general but specifically, drawing. My channel is dedicated in helping absolute beginners, intermediate artists, and industry veterans - all wanting to improve their drawing skills. Please like, subscribe, hit the notification bell and comment below if you're finding this channel helpful in your journey of becoming an artist.

My art teacher late 70s used circles to draw any animal and they looked real. He taught us this method. He did MN winter scenes on miniature canvas w oils that he sold. They were a little bigger than a stamp and were amazing. Mr. Hultgren WInona Senior HIgh MN.

Something i used to do is a page hands, feet, faces, anything i needed to practice. When i had enough i would turn it into a flesh wall paper by connecting everything. Its a little macabre, but along with the initial practice pieces, you also try shading, while adding details of stretching skin, cloth, tubes, veins, teeth. What ever your inner Geiger commands. No matter how bad the hands and feet were, they did make wonderful monster appendages.

Start making your lines slightly above the paper and slowly down it until you actually reach it surface and get thin lines. This also depends on the force and manner you are applying on your pencil or pen, just try to hold it just enough far of their points and try to "make the lines in a faster way" don't guide them so much, just do it (note, this is based on my own drawning experience )

I feel like I'm the weird one here. I might never draw a creature as scary looking as this, but what you shared about drawing a sphere from the shoulder is invaluable. I've been learning Neurographica and when I go to make a circle, I hadn't even thought about wrist or shoulder, where I'm drawing from and they come out wonky sometimes. I also feel it has sparked my imagination in finding and creating whatever wants to show up on the paper, just out of sheres. I absolutely love your creepy creature and will watch more and have subscribed. Thanks so much for sharing your art and process! ❤

I love this, I'm taking a drawing skills degree, and i'm in my second year. I was trying to think how I could reimagine collage (tomorrows topic of study) and make it more interesting to me. I think I'm going to mix and match parts of animals and then tie them together. Also, watching you draw that, I wasn't thinking bacteria, I was thinking Cosmic horror, a planet devouring behemoth.

WOW! I wanted to create creatures since I was a Teenager .. no Im over 40 and I start to make it real. Its a little bit sad for me to see, that in my older age I need to learn things I made automaticly with a younger mind. Today I start with thinking about, plan and imagin the result, years ago I started with drawing some forms, try to connect it and figure out what could be interesting. And I need to say ... my drawing skills years ago were bad, but my creativity was so much better, fresher and much more interessting as now. Big thanks to bring me back the creativity and the possibility to find my little monsters :-) ❤🐙

I was taught a process called automatic drawing. You slap some shapes down then let your wandering hand find connection and form between the shapes. Not great for realistic vibes but fantastic to just let something pour out of your pin. It also works well if you want to do old western cowboy scribbley sketches where they just threw down a few shapes and carved out shadows

I love your arts and creativities and most of all the way you shade them but your drawing and tutorial is very difficult to follow. You do not showing much detail or explaining how shading done. I have such a hard time figuring out how you did those shading that look so cool. The thorns that sticking out look for realistic and so real. Would be cool if you can show step by step and not skipping. Also complete the drawing as well. Thank you for your effort.

I stopped drawing ages ago and finally, i'm trying to come back... one thing i'm truly missing in your lessons is what type of pencil you using, sometimes you change and i dont follow it... so i need to pause the video, do some quick test and choose which graduation is better. Would be nice if you could say something like: "hey guys, i'm using a B or 2B or something" or edit the video and point out what type is. I'm kinda slow to identify only watching... btw the shading stuff is awesome.
