Late 80's driving back and forth between santa cruz and san francisco listening to opal and kendra smith. often it was wet and rainy...this was the song!
Came here to listen to David Roback's guitar. This was one of my favorite albums in high school. Got into Opal after he left RainParade. David your candle burned out too quickly. Peace!
+pmccaffrey100 Well it keeps winding up on my turntable for repeat plays, year after year after year. And I now think this song is the highlight. (Carl)
@@pmccaffrey100 There is an interesting version of that song sung by Kendra backed up by Natalie Merchant of 10,000 Maniacs. Recorded at McCabes Guitar Shop in 1987. ruclips.net/video/2DDlu81mhyk/видео.html
I absolutely love Opal. Where can I find an album by them though to purchase? I can't seem to find them anywhere, except really expensive records online.
You know that feeling you get in your cheeks before tears? Like a slight swelling and flush. Then the vision at the bottom of your eyes becomes a little blurry. Cause of water. Then you feel it on your face or it goes away.

what excellent song---our love from GREECE....Angelo with Brigitte
A beautiful song from a strangely neglected masterpiece. IMHO "Early Recordings" is one of the greatest albums ever.

Hear the Wind Blow is a bonus track on the CD and is a great song too.
Agreed. Believe it or not, I have it on cassette from back then and still sounds good! Can't believe it, must have played it 500x over the yrs!
...and RIP David Roback...just got word. 😕

RUclips is now haunted . . . this is special . . . leaves us wanting to go back home . . . wherever that is . . .
I never heard of this group until last week this song is just amazing
"My Only Friend" by OPAL was probably one of the most heart-tearing Love-Songs in Rock History - ever recorded...
(Pat, Switzerland)
kendra smith is amazing her album "5 ways of disapperaing" is fantasic
I love this song. I wish this album would be reissued.
This song reminds me of my cat. I miss her so much.
I miss my lovely, rambunctious. talkative friend; my cat. Shinoah what a great cat and yes this song is about my cat...
Same, reminds me of my dog. Used to smoke him out and listen to Opal..he loved it, and I loved him.
A Kinks song reminds me of my cat! Animal Farm! I used to sing it to her! Good bye ❤ Luna Corona
I like all your comments you nice people I love all of you Cheers!
There never was ever a Song, who broke my Heart so deeply...(and gave still the Balm again...)
My Tears, Pat (from Switzerland)
RIP Dave.
Because there are few of us who understand this song for a reason.
Always seem to come back to this one.
It's a shame, that this only got a few views. Such a beautiful haunting song.
One of the best groups ever
Love this! Why isn’t it on ITunes?!
wow, this song put me to tears right away, as does the first mazzy s album. pays to be a melancholic.
Beautiful.
Best song in the whole goshdarn world!!!
TOTALLY!!!
There’s something strangely upsetting about relating to a comment that’s 5 years old... Amazing song, wished I’d have discovered this band years ago
Opal became Mazzy Star and saw them in Fall 2013, still pure Gold
Mazzy Star was Dave Roback and Hope Sandoval. Opal was Dave and Kendra Smith
I absolutely love Opal. Where can I find an album by them though to purchase? I can't seem to find them anywhere, except really expensive records online.
Everything good that came before influenced this album, and everything good that came after was influenced by it.
touches on the threshold

I know, I know, I know... Mazzy Star and all. I prefer Opal.
I agree man... Mazzy Star are great an all, but there is something spiritual about Kendra Smith, she approached the music in a far more soulful way.
we can embrace both!
you must be special.
