What To Do About Fish-Eyes!? Alcohol Ink Tumblers
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 фев 2023
- I recently received an Epoxy Resin Kit from the folks at Alexes, and promised that I would try this resin with some different alcohol inks to see what would happen. I anticipated getting craters or fish-eyes, because that has happened to me before with very thin resin like this (see video here: • When Resin Gives you C... ). So this time, not only did I try making one tumbler with a brand of alcohol ink, but I made a second tumbler using this resin and the mica-hols I'd make with another Alexes product: chameleon micas! The results were as much a surprise as they were expected - you'll have to watch to see what I mean. The fish-eye gods laughed and laughed and laughed.

So what’s the most disastrous crater/fish-eye experience you’ve ever had??
only every tumbler i've tried to make 🤣 i've learned not to use krylon. dust garage probably plays a role, too. we'll find out when spring temps steady out a bit more
@@thiemecraft resin is extremely finicky stuff!!!
A tumbler with about 100 tiny to small fish eyes from top to bottom. I filled them with resin glitter and it was one crazy good result. I LOVE finding a creative way to fix an "oops" rather than strip or toss. If you just use your imagination it almost always turns out amazing and looks very intentional so tell the haters they are missing out on a good thing. :))
@@carolhanson3893 oh, that sounds like it turned out fantastic!! 🤩
@@Luxinda :)
I say planets for the black cup! It's very space themed. My most disastrous was in the final layer of the cup over maribu alcohol ink. I managed to fix it by spraying matte clear over it and epoxying again, and lots of sanding.
Great idea! Thank you!! Oh, sanding - ugh! 😑
I think bullet hole stickers would look amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!! Oh, bullet holes - very cool!
Wow, that cup with the t-rex inks is just gorgeous. I love the mica-hol ink one as well and think it's wonderful that you have found a way to successfully recreate those fisheyes. I hope the trolls who were so mean to you about liking the unique look of them appreciate the time and effort that you put in so that they know how to avoid such things if they find them so distressing. I, for one, do my best to find beauty in any and all art I come across. As always, thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!!😊😊🥰
Don’t pay any attention to those that have nothing good to say. They have the problem not you. I want to Thank you for doing all these videos for us to learn from-the good as well as the problem ones.
Both of these cups are equally interesting & beautiful
Thank you very much - I appreciate it!!😊😊
I love it when you do things like this!! It shows us that "mistakes" don't have to be a crisis. 😆 I agree on a space type theme for the black one... I'm not sure about the other one.
Thank you!!😊😊🌘👽
I think it’s fascinating how different the epoxy reacted. I love how the coloring of both cups turned out. One of my very first catch scratch glitter tumblers I made had waves in it and it’s my favorite cup. The second one I made exactly the same way and it had no waves to it at all, totally slick. I have no idea what the difference was. I’m sorry to hear how rude some people feel they need to be. It seems they need “be respectful in comments” clarified with ‘this includes you’ 😂😂 Have a fabulous day!
Thanks!! 😊😊 Yes, waves then no waves - it still happens. One of those resin mysteries!
Love the colors on both of them and now I know why I get creators. Thank you so much for the tutorial. ❤️ your work.
Thank you so much!! Glad the info was useful! 😊😊
They both turned out very cool 😎!! Perhaps with the crater one add some dried flowers 🌸 to add some depth to the voids 🤷♀️? Those rude peeps are just that!! In my opinion they should just not leave a comment!! Have a great day and keep the experiments coming!! 🥰
Thank you!! Flowers would be beautiful!!🌺🌸
I think they both turned out Great!! Love the colors of both. Mica-hold reminds me of space or deep ocean activity. The Rex colors (OMG) reminds me of spring fling theme. Some people think their snotty opinions should matter but it’s art so either you like or scroll on snotty troll!!
Thank you!!! Absolutely! 🥰🥰🥰
I love your abracadabra hands! lol
Thank you!😊👋
I agree with you!! I like the craters, they shows the own personality!! Love it
Thank you!!😊😊
I was always taught that if you don't have anything nice to say keep it to yourself!!
Same!! One of my mother’s favorites 😁 (with good reason)
I think the craters look kind of cool, and I like them without the additives better. Can't believe the white one is so black from a white cup with white added. While craters were expected... Coloration was a surprise. Fun!
Thanks! Yeah, the second cup was quite a surprise!!
They both came out cool. Maybe put some spacey decals in the craters of the micahol version.
Thank you!! Great idea 💡 😊🌗🚀👽
I just commented that! That’s the first thing I seen.
Good Morning ☀️ Pretty Lady 😊ok those are both AMAZING ✨the one with the LARGE craters makes me think of “sting rays” the craters had tails lol 😂 the other definitely has Outer space 🪐 🌌🛸vibes to me😍👍🏻👍🏻Happy Sunday Funday Ms Cindy☀️🎉❣️
Thank you and good morning to you!! 😊☀️☕️
Love the alcohol ink cup. I’ve never seen one come out quite like it.
Thank you very much!!😊😊
I really like them both. My fav is the white cup. 😍I’m just absolutely loving the colors and the way they are. Awesome job as always ❤ stay blessed love 🥰
Thank you very much!!😊😊
I love both these cups! For the white cup I'd just maybe do some gold accents, for the black cup first thing came to mind was neon jelly fish.
Thanks very much!! Oooh, love the neon jellyfish idea!
Vacated spaces 🤣 fascinating how mine cratered with the regular trex (hell mine fisheyed on just the spray really) inks and yours is freaking stunning! I am so happy you embrace these I am absolutely fascinated by the Michahol one how its wide open in some spots and full coverage in others.
Yeah, I find it so fascinating that the mica-hols dropped on and looked relatively normal, but sometime during the night, they all joined together and decided to make rivers around big open spaces. I'm sure some chem-physicist type could explain why this happens, but I guess I'm just happy it does, lol!
The black cup try the moon 🌚 and stars ⭐️
Thanks very much!🌘🌟✨
I think it looks COOL - each their own - looks like something from outer space - or better yet put eyes in the voids lol - have a good one
Thank you!! 😊😊 We’re all different with different tastes - I think occasionally some folks just forget that. 😎
@@Luxinda so very true
Do a space theme on the black one.
Thank you!!🌘🚀👽😊
Love love them both...
Thank you!!😊😊✨
I like them. I think you could highlight those craters on the first cup even more. I’m thinking make that a space monster cup somehow. Or space odyssey type thing.
👿 👹 👽 Very cool!!
its like a reverse peek-a-boo! you could put a saying decal on it and weed out the parts not in a crater... that'd be weird (I like weird lol) or bejewel the craters with rhinestones?! It's interesting how the white one reacted. I expected to see more of the white base. maybe a 'melted' looking saying or graphic?
Great ideas - thank you!!😊😊
tornado season rudely interrupted my video watching 😐 let's try this again
uh oh! stay safe!!!
Gold foils on the 1st one and foiled stars on the 2nd one
Oh, that would be beautiful! Thank you!😊😊
Similar to the other comments on the micahol tumbler, I am getting a galaxy feel from it. The alcohol ink one however, I am thinking you should do dots with a paint marker or something similar on the rest of the tumbler in complementary colors of the ones on the cup already
Thank you so much!!😊😊
Cute
I say put tack it in the spaces then foil 🙂
Great idea - thank you!!😊😊
So crazy how different they turned out. What causes the fish eyes?
Oh, lots of things can cause fish eyes with resin, and sometimes there's no obvious reason, which is especially frustrating. But oil from fingerprints on the cup can cause resin to repel, as can a really smooth, shiny surface (that's why a lot of people spray everything with a layer of matte clear or semi-gloss clear spray paint before applying resin). One of the most frequent causes is what happened in this video: very low-viscosity resin plus alcohol inks.
@@Luxinda oh wow, I didn’t realize there were so many causes. Lol. Thanks so much for explaining. : )
I have some rather thin epoxy 2:1 and it did the same thing. I was mortified but how does one combat it? i must admit I have not tried it since and probably should but with some epoxy paste to see it if does it again. The first one was to seal in a tie dye effect using alcohol inks for the pattern, perhaps that’s why it fish eyed on me? Thank you for a stunning video once again. Xxx
Thin resins seem to like to slide off everything. If you can spray whatever you’ve done with matte clear spray, it usually solves the crater issue at least somewhat. That 2:1 resin probably works great in molds. I would recommend a medium viscosity resin for most tumblers. Like KS Resin or Tumblers Epoxy from The Epoxy Resin Store.
send the snotties off with a tissue cause these are "unique" and that in fact makes them beautiful
Thanks very much!!😊😊🥰
