The Ripstick range of skis from Elan has a really strong following, and in Europe the 96mm model is the key width. They also do this model in a 94mm waist for women. Elan's taken the bold step of tinkering with these excellent skis and, given how strong their following is, that's a bold move.
They've changed the tip and tail a little, with a blunter nose, tweaked taper front and back and a more rounded tail shape.
The lightweight Vapor Tip insert that was previously, and confusingly, in the tip and tail, is now only in the tip.
The skis still carry the TubeLite woodcore construction, with carbon tubes mapping the side profile of the ski along the edge inside the woodcore. For 2020-21, this is added to with Carbon Line Technology, a horizontal carbon laminate on top of the woodcore along the inside edge, in the fore-body of the ski.
The skis still have Amphibio tech, where the skis have a freeride orientated rocker on the outside edge and an all-mountain / piste orientated camber profile on the inside edge of the ski. This means there is a left and right ski.
The big question is - has Elan spoiled what was an excellent ski?
Al Morgan, SkiKitInfo.com's chief tester, was on-hand in Scotland to test Elan's latest all-round Ripstick and is here with the verdict.
Thanks to Elan Skis for letting us test their kit. As with all of the testing at SkiKitInfo.com, the brands don't pay for these reviews or have any say in how they turn out.
