      +ian hastie he makes good points but the conclusion of his points is wrong. Jordan dunking on people, iverson crossing everyone over, curry draining three's, none of these players have hurt the game. If you are a kid and you only practice one aspect of your game it is not the athlete's fault. It is your own damn fault and you will probably never be good. Kids are just kids if they really want to be good they will learn all the necessary skills later on in life not when they are 8 years old. These players are just introducing new aspects to the sport which can be incorporated into someone's game. Any great player comes around that does inhuman things has hurt the game? What kind of idiotic conclusion is that?

      +ian hastie look, before people comment and get on my head, he's right.... I played ball in many different settings with so called "warrior" fan's, and let me tell you, that 3 has somehow become way more used then it should be used.... let me be honest

      That's what I meant Reeper123. I see all the time how little kids wanna be Steph and all they do is try to shoot 3's. They're only 12 years old, its kinda hard for a 12 year old go shoot 3's. You're gonna see a decrease in number of kids with with good fundamentals if we continue to only glorify curry's game as only a 3 point specialist.

    Currys shooting isn't the problem...the fact that only the three point aspect of his game is highlighted is the problem if you wanna call it that...he's actually an extremely fundamentally well rounded player and anyone who actually watches him and not just his highlights will see that

At the end of the day, if you're a true hooper you will practice all facets of the game to be the best that you can be. Let's just tell steph to stop shooting threes....... Because that make sense right?

    This is exactly what Terrell Owens said about OBJ and his one hand catches that he makes with ease. Saying that he hurting the game cause kids want to catch the ball with one when its easier with two. My point is it's not stephen curry that's the problem but the advertisments and damn sportscwnter showcasing every hand catch or 3 pt by OBJ and Steph. Don't stop the player stop those who are using it to get money!

    That logic applies to kobe the most. Every time I go the rec there are people trying to play hero ball like kobe. Chucking fadeaways at the three point line. Kobe is definitely a legend but he was definitely a volume shooter who often saw basketball as a 1 on 5 game. College would have done him good. How many times have we seen kobe try and shoot a game winner with three defenders on him. And then he makes one every blue moon and then people call him clutch and fearless and they want to play like him. Guys like lebron , magic, Jordan and Duncan should be the role models. I know people call jordan selfish but he wasn't and actually had the unique combination of taking over the game while making sure his teammates were involved throughout the game.

    • @kevinc8955
      @kevinc8955 8 лет назад +4

      +Bobby Booshay Mark Jackson had them playing ISO ball similar to Houston. Mark Jackson would have never had Iggy come off the bench. Mark Jackson would have never given Harrison Barnes a starting role and put as much faith in Draymond Green as Kerr did. Passes per possession dead last under Jackson, number 1 in the league under Kerr. It's Kerr's system, and the main reason Lacob gave when he fired Jackson was Mark didn't hire the best assistants even with a blank check from the owner. Mark hired his friends (Inexplicably including Lindsey Hunter who had a history with undermining management and locker rooms in previous jobs. How many times has Lindsey Hunter's hiring led to the firing of the head coach now? 3 times?). So you using Luke Walton as an example, and someone that Kerr hired only makes Lacob look even more of a genius for canning Jackson. They would have never won with Jackson as head coach....ever.

    Curry is not hurting the game. Its not Curry's fault that High School kids are slinging deep threes. Curry should NOT stop being who he is just because High School players aren't being wise with their shots. All professional players have influences on younger players, but professional players shouldn't alter their style of play just because of High Schooler's failure to play wisely.

    • @enriquependragon3860
      @enriquependragon3860 8 лет назад

      The thing that is hurting the game is people's inability and failure to try to replicate Curry, not Curry himself. The announcer says that Curry is hurting the game, but in reality, its other player's failure that's hurting the game.

Kids who only shoot 3's do it because it's fun, which is great, but it also means they aren't serious about being good at playing the game, which means they won't make it to the NBA, so there's no need to worry about their effect on the game.

    It's not that he's wrong. His comments are just misguided. How many other players have kids grown up emulating over the years? Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Lebron, KD, T-Mac, Iverson, Marbury, Vince Carter, Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Melo, D-Wade, Ginobili, etc. The list goes on and on. 1. Kids are spongey morons that imitate and emulate everything they see on TV. and B. They'll do it for whoever's hot at the moment, then when someone new comes along, they'll copy them too. It's not necessarily hurting the game. It's all in good fun in a pick up game or just goofing off at the park. Those kids won't make any real teams playing like somebody else anyway.

All the other players throw the ball really high up for a lay up like Steph. All the players always look for an ankle breaker and have a high light play. Kids/Teens nowadays always play like a guard, even the ones that are 6 ft and taller. People need to stop playing like a guard and play smart.

    Mark Jackson is right. I've played basketball with all ages of people. The newer generations (High School and College) are taking way too many 3s and only making 1/10 of them. But what Mark Jackson is saying here is that these college/ high school kids and coaches need to learn that there is so much more to the game. He never said Curry never needs to stop what he's doing. He literally named about 5-6 different things that Curry is good at other than 3s. What he is saying is that there is much more to the game than spot up jumpers. To a degree, yes Steph did hurt the game. But it was the newer generation that let him do so by not grasping the full concept of the game.

    Like other people also said, this sounds exactly like the situation with OBJ and it's true. I play football myself on a travel team and ever since the One handed catch people are always saying (even me) "Alright let's try to get an OBJ catch" and it's the only way they try and when it's an easy catch they also don't get that as they practice it way less then what is harder. I think it's best to practice everything and THEN once you do everything great, move on to more advanced things

    I completely disagree with Mark Jackson because by telling a kid to stop shooting 3s your hurting that kids freedom from practicing them. The 3 point shot is a very important part of the game today. I personally regret letting people tell me to stop shooting 3s when i was little because how else would you get your practice on making 3s. You don't want a kid air balling 3s at a team tryout if that kid wants to get good at 3s he has to keep shooting.

    If you take away the "he's hurt the game part", Mark Jackson makes some good points. Otherwise, Jackson's premise is an odd one. That premise is as strange as some of the things Bill Walton used to say...before he was canned. If Jackson keeps saying things like that, his broadcasting career will end up like Walton's!

    I work full time as a basketball trainer at a sports complex and deal almost exclusively with 5th-9th graders. Every single kid wants to have great shooting form now because of Curry. Every single session, I talk about how steph never practiced shooting deep 3's until he was in high school and each kid eats it up. Do people remember what it was like when every child wanted to be allen iverson?

    Well, there's a lot of truth to what he said, but he shouldn't have said Curry is hurting the game. He phrased it wrong. Who knows if that was accidental or not. Curry is great for the game. He's not only a great player, but he certainly seems like a great guy and a great family man.

  • @evingrindle1929
    @evingrindle1929 2 года назад

    It's exactly right what Jackson said. Pay attention to his wording, he said "To a DEGREE", meaning that he's not hurting the game himself, but he's indirectly hurting the game. All these highlights of Steph Curry pulling nice moves and hitting deep threes makes younger players think it's cool and ignore basic fundamentals and work on all aspects, they just want to practice their three ball all workout/practice. We tend to only see the finish product and not the work that is put in. Younger players should learn from Curry that he's great not because he's an insane athlete, but because he works harder than every other point guard on every aspect of his game. One of the many plays of him hitting an open three is often looked at face value of "oh he just hit a nice three, that's amazing skill from only him". But that one open three was created by good defense from the team on the other end, nice hard screens set by his teammates, his great stamina to be able to run for that long and all over the court, and the precision passing and IQ from his teammates. The same is for a guy like Allen Iverson. A lot of younger players loved him because of his "I can do what I want" attitude, like with the greatly misunderstood "practice" speech. But what people should really learn from Iverson is once again, that if you work hard enough with the skills God gave you, you can do great things.

  • @KingPeezy14

    Some people need to realize that missed threes add up fast. 3 missed 3's is 9 points lost and people will just keep shooting them until they make one, which messes it up even more. 3 chances to shoot and 3 missed 3's is 0 points. 3 chances to shoot and 3 made layups is 6 points. And if you learn to make layups, people will have to foul you. If you make a layup and get fouled, that's 3 points that are way easier. Even if you miss a layup and you're fouled, it won't mess up your shot percentage, so its really the smarter decision.

    I wasn't aware that Steph Curry was the inventor of the three pointer. Apparently., no one had a desire to shoot three pointers before the past two years in high school. This monster must be stopped!

    Steph Curry isn't ruining the game, he's on the frontline of simply changing the game all together. You could make the same argument as the commentator when talking about the first person to crossover dribble. Kids started practicing dribbling more, effectively taking away from time spent on other aspects of the game. I'm not saying Steph Curry will definitely change the game forever, but what he is doing shouldn't be considered hurting an ever evolving game.

    I agree with what he saying...Currys my favorite player... Also Lebron. I agree with Mark saying "he's not just a shooter", he's got handle and plays good defense. What I don't agree with when is he says "I see kids run to the 3pt line"... They're so many people in the NBA who do that (Kevin Love, JR Smith etc) I think cause Curry is the most popular person who does it he gets talked about for doing it. I don't think he's being criticized I just think mark wants to talk about what he has seen over the past year

    Curry shouldn't be blamed for this at all.. If he's got a talent for shooting threes, then let him do it. The kids are the ones who are ultimately deciding to copy him and focus on only one aspect of the game. It's their own problem for not knowing that merely "copying" won't get them results. Just because there's an over-emphasis of Curry's 3-Point skills doesn't mean he doesn't focus on other aspects of the game.

      +Reeper123 not really, if you truly watched the greats of all time( Hakeem the dream,MJ,John Stockton etc.) they played pretty fundamentally. They excelled because they where more athletic than most,found what they're good at, and worked very hard. In stephs cause the dude is a freak of nature. He can jack up the ugliest three ever and make it. If he continues at this pace for the next 6-7 years he will be the greatest 3-point shooter ever and maybe the greatest all-time but everyone ain't steph Curry. When kids only shoot 3s. High schoolers throwing up deep af shots. It does kinda hurt the game.

    • @Reeper123
      @Reeper123 8 лет назад

      +YoungAthlete_11 1. There is a difference between a tough shot and an ugly shot. Joakim Noah has an ugly shot, Steph shoots tough shots but his shot itself is fundamentally sound and has probably one of the prettiest shots in the NBA him and lilard would be my top 2. Kobe Bryant jacks up hard shots and all the kids wanted to be him at one point did he ruin the game as well? All DeAndre Jordan Shaq and Dwight did was dunk the shit out of the ball did they ruin the game? Did KAJ ruin it with his skyhook or Duncan with his backboard bankshot or AI with his crossovers? MJ was a prolific scorer and every kid out there wanted to score 35 a game like MJ did, so i guess he ruined the game as well because they didnt care about other fundamentals like setting screens? No they all improved the game.
      Kids are kids man they play for fun and to imitate their idols. When they get serious it is the coaches that straighten them out and make sure they learn fundamentals. It's ALWAYS been like that. If you are a kid in the playground jacking up stupid ass shots who the fuck cares ur not playing in a league ur not going pro you havent even played real basketball yet, but when you do decide that nba is a real dream for you, that individual will learn all the fundamentals to allow them to compete they obviously arent going to run out to the 3 pt line and jack up 3's every chance they get. Am I making sense?
      Let me also ask you what is so fundamentally unsound about steph curry?

    Steph Curry hasn't hurt the game, the game was bound to develop into this on its own. With an emphasis on points (as in any game) it makes sense to produce the most effective ratio of 3's and 2's. Naturally, players are going to gravitate towards 3's for their higher values. Balance is restored with maturity and proper coaching. The biggest problem is that stars are becoming younger and younger and they aren't maturing properly, and that is affecting their development. Leaving kids in college for a few more years, like Curry w/ Davidson, will produce a better core than by removing them right away, like Jahlil Okafor w/ Duke on the abysmal 76ers.

    Hes absolutely right. Kids at my school love basketball, but they dont set screens, they dont cut, they dont pass, all they do is shoot 3s. AND THING THAT PISSES ME OFF IS THAT THEY MAKE 1 SHOT AND THEY THINK THEYRE HOT, Curry influences these kids to shoot 3s and only 3s, and basketball is more than JUST putting the ball in the hoop and if thats all you think basketball is than your not a true fan.
