  • 🌍 Title: ELEPHANT REFUGEES: WHERE ELEOHANTS RULE
🌍 Description: There is a crisis of elephantine proportions playing out in the dry sandy Kalahari woodlands of eastern Botswana. A determined family of caring people is caught in the middle of the drama. Life changed forever for the family when climate change intensified the frequent droughts, and hundreds of elephants arrived at Elephant Sands Bush Camp to drink water from the ancient pan. For the past 50 years international crime syndicates have poached wildlife through out Africa in shocking quantities - forcing the elephants to flee for their lives using the ancient elephant pathways. When Botswana became a poacher-free zone in 2014, the news quickly spread from one elephant family to another, sparking a great migration. We don't know how elephants communicate over hundreds of miles, but they do. Sixty per cent of Africa's elephants now live in Botswana. In 2019, Botswana lifted the 5-year ban on elephant hunting. Currently, Southern Africa is experiencing the worst drought in living memory.

I love Elephants so much, and now I love the family & other people in this heartwrenching documentary, “Elephant Refugees”filmed inBotswana. The tragedy of drought & global warming is worsening, but these warriors trying to get water and some veterinary care to these few hundred souls brings at least a bit of hope and certainly more love & understanding of these noble, intelligent & loving creatures. I’m sorry that $80,000 allows rich people to actually hunt these diminishing darlings for trophies, when merely DONATING that money for the honor of being in their presence, taking photos, and financing the boring of more wells would be better, and keep these fascinating animals from going extinct in our lifetime. That will be one of the saddest days on earth. Thank you for sharing yourselves & your fearless, loving care of these gigantic miracles with us a world away. 💗💗💗

Elephant and other animals are part of ecosystem and they lived fine over millions of years until human being showed up. Elephant is not problem and they don’t need human. The problem is human’s greediness by taking away their habitats or body parts for profits. We did lots of destruction to the nature and animals in recent 100 years and all we can do now is to correct mistakes by stopping damage, giving back the habitats and letting animals do the rest.

And I must say we should conserve these mighty and very intelligent Elephants. Otherwise, our next generation will see nothing and they will be extinct as mammoths. We all should come forward to save them. And who are already doing this by sacrificing their lavish life, I don't know how to thank them. May GOD protect them for saving wildlife like this. I think the elephants will understand more on what hours to bath cause they're pretty smart. They are animals looking at humans swimming. Do you think.? IMHO it takes a cruel, sick and twisted person to want to kill an elephant, especially for sport. Who in their right mind would want to do that and brag about it? I feel the same way about the other big animals in Africa. We should be protecting them from extinction not selling them to their death for sport! I swear humans ruin every single thing they touch one way or another!
This was a wonderful film and I pray they find a way to keep watering the elephants.

This is heartbreaking to watch. Despite the most heartfelt, sincere efforts to do the right thing, I cannot help but wonder if this is the wrong thing to do. It may be better to let Nature determine the outcome despite the tragic end that this will have. Fate of Nature is, however, not what has caused all these problems. It is the Anthropocene (i.e., the Age of Man), too many human beings, and our encroachment on wildlife territory that causes much of the current disequilibrium. 26 million elephants to a few hundred thousand is astounding, yet our numbers continue to climb( for the moment).

The signs are when a male has wetness around the eyes 😮 I learned this from an elephant documentary. Also I li e in Utah and a journalist reported Utah cloud seeds to help make it rain; we citizens have no choice they make us pay for it; Utah supplies 3 to 4 other states with water. Wondering why they only called the vet for the large elephant and not the baby? Is it because they dont think they can get the baby without mom freaking out? Wish they could of helped the little guy😢

The Mothers (the herd) would never have allowed us to take Tripod .Day after day we witnessed his struggles. It was heartbreaking and impossible to help Tripod.

I get why you have dogs, for protection, but can you not train them to leave the Ellies alone? That was so hard to watch the dogs harassing them. Very ill mannered IMO. Before anyone starts, who disagrees, don't. This is MY opinion and you don't have to like it.
Other than that, a beautiful story.
