Very good documentary. 'The Exorcist' came out Christmas of 1973. I had just turned 15 and was a fan of "spooky" movies. My date took me to see it, and it was absolutely terrifying! I curled up like a pretzel, stuck my fingers in my ears, scrunching my eyes shut, and begged my date to take me home. He kept laughing, calling the movie stupid. The reason I was so scared wasn't just for the obvious reasons. I'd been growing up in church and already knew that demonic possession was real. When the movie was over, my legs felt like jello. I got home and wouldn't sleep in my bed. I woke up my little brother and made him sleep on the dining room floor with me. The actors were very good, but, still, it's the scariest movie I've ever seen. 'Exorcist 3' had a good "creep" factor, and was more entertaining to watch. Not terrifying, just good and creepy. I still haven't watched the first one all the way through. When I hear 'Tubular Bells', my skin starts to crawl.

I first saw the movie 🍿 in 1973 as a child with my older sister at the Palace theatre 🎭 in Hawaii. I don’t think I’ve seen a horror movie as unforgettable as The Exorcist and I’ve never eaten pea soup ever..

I was 9 when this was released in 73. There was an obscure, little known "exit" at the back of the local theater where I lived at that time. It was NEVER locked. That, and the lack of vigilance, attention, combined with crowds, night, and marijuana, and my almost preternatural ability to move about unnoticed, got me into the theater to see the Exorcist no less than 5 times before getting caught, for smoking hashish, and drinking beer in the restroom... Probably because I was in the women's restroom, quite intoxicated. Yeah, I sneaked into the Ex 5 times, but what few people knew was, that between age 8 and 12, I got into the X rated movies they played at midnight Fri & Sat, more times than there are pimples in puberty. I used to smoke dope, cigarettes, drink booze, and make out with older girls who got in there, all the time. It got old after a time, as did I. But Hey, so what of it? It was good times, it was the 70's. I'm 60 now. The 70s was The BEST decade there ever was. If you remember it, you weren't there.

I watched this on TV (crab walk and all), alone on a warm and sunny summer evening when I was 7. My parents were having a dinner party and we had to be outside or in the basement while they ate. It's the most unsettling film I've ever seen, and I loved it. 50 years later and I am still searching for a film that that fills me with such fear. :)

Blatty's wife is mistaken. Robert Shaw would've been making The Sting or Young Winston at the time of the missed Dick Cavett Show, not Jaws (22:02).

I was visiting some family about 2 hours from where it was filmed and drove to the iconic exorcist stairs few pics of myself and the exorcist house...

The scene where everything is flying around the Regans bedroom...early on in the movie. Some objects look like CD's!

I was 14, laughed my butt off if the special effects made you "believe" you are a sad person. I saw it again when I was a bit older, 20, and had the exact same reaction. I love films and enjoy the old-time special effects, those artists were fantastic. But it's only a movie, kids. "The Shining" is my favorite horror film because it is a psychological horror, not a special effects extravaganza. Reactions to The Exorcist were just silly.

Exorcist 2 The Heretic is a very underrated movie still in my opinion. Always bugs me when people just write it off. And Exorcist 3 "going in a completely different direction" when it involves three characters from the original novel and movie and is based on Blatty's sequel novel Legion? Disappointing. I have seen far superior and in depth docs than this about the Exorcist.

We've all become robots today desensitised and seen so much bad stuff with superb special effects that this film isn't as shocking. It's still disturbing but more for the psychology of the movie. It like you can sense the demon getting stronger and possessing her more and i found that more disturbing than some of the action. If you read the book you also understand some of the scenes better. For instance the bit where pazuzu says "Do you know what she did your c daughter" that's spoken in burk Dennings voice and not the demons normal voice, mocking the mother saying your daughter killed burk. The demon didn't mean her doing that with the crucifix.

I liked the film but the one they call the directors cut has too much missing from it. They should have left it alone.

I watched this film with a boyfriend my father had read the book so was eager to know if they cut huge bits put. There were priests outside with devout Catholics praying outside trying to stop you going in. We watched the whole thing. Back home my father wanted to talk about it so we did afterwards l went to bed l slept on top bunk my sister rocked herself to sleep abd shook our bed l made her swop beds. She wet the bed l never knew till she peed on me l ran to my parents room my father said why were you in the bottom bunk l said that rocking made me think of the film.

Like "Erasure Head," this film forces the viewer into a state of dread and despair and keeps you there till the end of the movie and even longer.....

My family moved to Fl in 1970 from NY. The year this movie came out, l went back to NY to visit for the Christmas break. One Sunday evening, after my aunt made a great Italian dinner, my cousin, Pasquale (Patty Boy) says, let's go to the city ( we were in Queens) to see The Exorcist. We rode the train into the city and there were massive lives at the theater. We couldn't get tickets. We turned around and went back to Queens. It was icy and l hung on to my cousins pants as he pulled me across the snow. We then stopped for Chinese food. He was hungry again. He also made me run out of the restaurant without paying. That man cursed us royally. Ah, memories. Sorry for blabbering. I got back home to Miami a week later and finally got to see the movie. My boyfriend at the time and l went to see it. There was a man behind us screaming. I dont think l moved a muscle. It was the 70's and l was a bit "impaired". Not until l left the movie did it hit me. Scary as hell. I made my bf sit on my driveway with me all night, till the sun rose. I was scared to go inside. I was scared to move. I will be 70 in Feb and till this day, if l hear tubular bells all these memories come flooding back. Scariest movie ever!!!!

Stick your documentaries you advert hungry creators..how you call yourself watch when you have adverts every few minutes..I won't be coming here again...as if u don't make enough with eBay ad rev ..greed is what it is...to our detriment.😮

Richard Pryor should have won an Oscar for his performance in the Excorcist. He was cheated! And Lawrence Olivier, a Nazi war criminal posing as a priest asking the mother of the afflicted girl before he enters the room, "is it safe?" was riveting. The House of Representatives passes legislation that "anyone who is faint of heart in viewing this movie should be deported."

The saw The Exorcist with my best friend and my father at the National Theater in Westwood, Ca, I was 15 years old. When we left the theater after the movie, my father never said a word, never spoke ONE word on the drive home. My Dad was a World War 2 COMBAT VETERAN, he killed Nazis in the EUROPEAN theater from 1942 to 1944, He wasn't afraid of much, however this movie SHOOK HIM TO THE CORE!! I found out later from my mother he had experienced the SUPERNATURAL first hand and had never spoken to anyone about his experience except to her!! My parents have always believed the subject matter depicted in this film is not only possible, but REAL!!

Awesome documentary, very informative. Better than any of the 'authorised' documentaries on the dvd releases. Let's see an Exorcist 3 documentary next ❤

I'm exactly Linda Blair's age and when we went to the theater we were late. The only seats were right up front. I learned a new kind of scared and I felt it for days.

Think the film Possessed with Timothy Dalton was based on the true one .. worth a watch peeps 🙏🏻

as a kid in london in 78 my grandparents got a new vhs we were all excited so one nighy when staying at their home my older mate got me a vhs of the film. amazing the film made me thought i was the devil but i wasnt bothered i didnt want to goto hospital for tests😂. loved vhs back in the day and i stil have one now without piano keys

Today's generation must find it difficult to understand how things were fifty years ago. The Exorcist was groundbreaking in the horror genre.

I first saw it high up in our tree house that overlooked our neighborhood and gave us a view of the Jet Drive In Theater. Of course we had no sound and it was a bit blurry from the distance but as a 6 year old I saw what I thought was incredible. Finally saw it for the first time when I was 12. It is still Incredible to this day.
