Insights from COP28: Five Key Takeaways from Robert Spencer

On the final day of COP28, our Head of ESG Advisory Services, Robert Spencer, shares his five top takeaways from attending the conference in Dubai:
1. We are seeing systemic and integrated change replace one-off initiatives and pilot projects - particularly in hard-to-decarbonize industries like aviation and shipping.
2. Nature has rapidly climbed up the agenda; the progress around biodiversity credits, in particular, highlights this.
3. We need a structured infrastructure transition to achieve net zero - the international Buildings Breakthrough is a great example.
4. Creating livable, resilient net zero neighborhoods is key.
5. We need to continue discussing all of the above beyond COP28 to capitalize on the opportunities and momentum around the net zero transition.
As Robert explains, it's been a COP of energy and enthusiasm. There is much more to do, but we are excited to play our part.
