It's cool that the Disney Renaissance video has caught on with the RUclips algorithm (that's what brought me here) but I was frankly shocked to look down and see a three-digit view count. This kind of carefully researched, thoughtful, and highly polished content deserves more attention.
Antiskill Nara I was brought here by the renaissance video as well I was expecting there to be way more views on this video I don’t understand why there isn’t It really is amazing I do look forward to seeing more stuff from this creator :)
not sure if you guys gives a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf recently xD
This is only my third video of yours that I've watched so far, but already I feel like I'm learning so much! Your passion for movie making (and the movie La La Land in particular- I felt almost ashamed saying I loved it after I watched it on account of the criticism it got from friends and peers), is infectious. I really appreciate all the research you put into your videos. I'm planning to start a movie reviewing blog of my own, but watching your video essays remind me how much I still have yet to learn. Can't wait to watch more!
I loved La La Land. A grew up with many of the musicals and not only was the story heartbreaking, but the nostalgia that it brought back was a wonderful and tearjearking feeling. Thank you for putting that into words.
Fred and Ginger were professional dancers and people like to complain about that. I love this movie. Gosling learned jazz piano and doesn't even read music. He did write some with "Dead Man's Bones", and he did singing and dancing on the Mickey Mouse club, but not this kind. This was a lot of work and a lot of dedication.
This is such a fantastic, detailed video. La La Land was my favourite film of 2016 and you have given me a hundred new reasons to go back and love it even more, along with a host of films I need to see. Brilliant work.
Excellent video. I like that you brought up the influence of Jacques Demy and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. I'd also like to point out that the opening scene of La La Land was also obviously influenced by another Demy film, The Young Girls of Rochefort.
The part in the Epilogue where they dance with the lights are around them is also a reference to the Lovely to Look At dance sequence to Smoke Gets in Your Eyes with Gower and Marge Champion.
I didn't like La La Land the first time I watched it but after more viewings I noticed a lot of those tributes and it has become one of my fav movies. Not sure how many times I've watched it on Netflix now.
Man ive just watched 4 of your vids & they're FANTASTIC! Please keep this up...as a film buff/snob & lover of all things vintage i thumbs up this BIG TIME! I'm subscribin' so i hope you make more like this on a regular basis sir!
Awesome videos so far. I love how in depth you are. However, please change the music every once in a while in the video; it did get a bit repetitive. Looking forward to the next one!
thank you for making this! i'm someone who loves the vibe of la la land but has never really watched movie musicals, and it's so helpful to have the source of all of the references i couldn't catch explained. i'll be looking forward to your next video!
It sounds like you say “Sing in the rain” and “law land” multiple times in the video. Anyways, great video. I’ve been on a La La Land mood lately and been watching years old videos about the movie.
Hey I just found your channel and WOW! This is great! I thank you for telling me more about this great film, and I felt so much emotion throughout. Keep on making stuff, man!
Just came across this today- great work! I look forward to seeing more video essays like this. One minor correction though: Singin' in the Rain actually did get 2 Oscar nominations. One was for Original Score, and the other was a Supporting Actress nod for Jean Hagen (which is so deserved- arguably the funniest performance in the whole film).
Make more videos! I love your voice. Very similar to Lindsey Ellis style or Danny from every frame a painting. I'm surprised you haven't produced more videos because your editing is very good.
I know I am quite late with this comment and even don't know if this channel is active. I found also a reference to West side story, specially in "someone n the crowd".
There are 2 references to casablanca Mia' s room has a picture of ingrid bergman . Mia and Sebastian talk about the window humphrey bogart and ingrid bergman looked out of in one scene .
I really wish I could be more consistent but because of my full time job, I can only work on videos when I have time. My goal is to hopefully have my next one up in March. Thanks for watching my content! I really like my last three videos as well
I'm a bit late I guess haha, but there's a "ballon rouge" reference in the movie in case nobody said it. By the way that's an amazing video you did a very good job, that's really helpfull thank you!
I feel like you could make a similar video to the movie "The Artist". Just like "La La Land" that too paid homage to an era and style of film making that has since disappeared. Any chance you could talk about that movie?
Damien chazelle ref to an old French film, I think it was silent . That inspired him. I watched it in you tube. I can not remember The name of the film he referenced. It was about a couple in Paris, a young girl was escaping her life with her sister in poverty. Chance meeting with the male character they end up together till the end . Then she has a dream sequence and you realize They do not end up together, actually I think he dies. This is not a musical. Does anyone know which film he was referring too?
This comment is kinda late lol and i know you tried to talk only about golden age musicals but regarding movies altogether, La La Land's plot is pretty much Casablanca
La La Land is simply an unforgettable masterpiece. Art in its purest form
It's cool that the Disney Renaissance video has caught on with the RUclips algorithm (that's what brought me here) but I was frankly shocked to look down and see a three-digit view count. This kind of carefully researched, thoughtful, and highly polished content deserves more attention.
Thank you for the compliment! I really enjoyed making this video

@Gage Preston yea, been using InstaFlixxer for years myself =)
They don't end up together? Yes! I might actually watch la la land. Most relationships fail. I like the films that allow for that reality.
Well done my friend, this is some amazing work. Can’t wait for the next video.
Thanks for the support!
My right ear loves the mixing

I can't believe you have so few views on this FANTASTIC video. Well done my man.
I loved La La Land. A grew up with many of the musicals and not only was the story heartbreaking, but the nostalgia that it brought back was a wonderful and tearjearking feeling.

Whoops! Thanks for letting me know
Maybe I'm imagining it but Chazell and Donnen look a little like each other in this video. Enjoyed the video btw.
I noted the same!
Was about to post then saw yours.
Karma? 😁
I love this ❤️ Now I have a lot of musicals to add to my Watch list!
Make more videos! I love your voice. Very similar to Lindsey Ellis style or Danny from every frame a painting. I'm surprised you haven't produced more videos because your editing is very good.

I've never seen "The Artist"! I don't take requests but if it sparks a creative passion in me, than it's possible
Even if you don't do a video on it, you should at least see the movie. It's a favorite of mine and I feel like you'd enjoy it. =)
FINE! ill watch la la land again ig
THANK YOU!
dosent sound impressive? this sounds amazing and it’s impressive

@12:40 theres a ref to 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg' a French film. Is this the one?
Chazelle remarked on this ref in an interview I saw as well.
Nobody remembers who won Best Picture 2017, only that La La Land lost.
Was there a Roman Holiday reference in there? I think I remember someone saying there was.
Bobby Calloway Idk what people are saying, but I always thought the ending was paying homage to Roman Holiday (not just Casablanca)
I think that's what I heard too
Bobby Calloway it makes sense. Chazelle is an Audrey Hepburn fan and the finale is more reminiscent of RH than Casablanca.

i have some viewing to do!!!! LOL and reviewing!!!
This comment is kinda late lol and i know you tried to talk only about golden age musicals but regarding movies altogether, La La Land's plot is pretty much Casablanca

The magic our is one of the most beautiful things The Lord has done on this earth
I heard you on the ticket werd
Thanks for checking out my content!
Was it an original story tho?
Good vid, but there were like 100 voice cracks
I didn't understand the hype. Aside from the very beginning La La Land song, the rest of LA LA Land was SHIT.
FIGHT ME. ✊
Great video!
