True story. I am a retired US Military Pilot (Blackhawk Pilot and after I retired EMS Pilot. From 1972 and 1979 I was a Los Angeles County Emergency Paramedic. I responded to an apartment in West Hollywood for a heart attach victim While there I was in the living room (There was another crew working on this old woman) so I was just standing around. To my huge surprise there he was Huntz Hall. I was a huge fan growing up watching the Bowery Boys. I walked up to what appeared to be a family member of the old woman (The old woman was Huntz Halls Mother. I asked this older woman if the gentleman was, in fact, Huntz Hall. She said Awwww that's so sweet, yes it is. She then asked me if I would go up to him and introduce myself to him and tell him I am a huge fan, so I did. Mr. Hall all of a sudden perked up and was so unbelievably nice to me. I told him our Prayers are with your mother and that we will give her the very best care, and believe me he was so appreciated of my Compassion. We shook hands and then we transported her to I believe Mount Sinia Hospital. I will remember this until the day I pass on. Even though he was much older he looked just like the man I use to watch on the Television.
Wow, I love hearing stories of chance encounters like this. So glad to hear that he was a great guy in person. What a neat memory to have. Thanks for sharing it with all of us, Dustoff85. Really appreciate it!
He owned a building on 45th street where a friend of mine lived and we would see him when he was in NYC, he was always nice to us and stopped to have small talk, I have never forgot that.
I remember the first time I was taken by my older sister to see a Bowery Boys film. When we got to the cinema the queue seemed so long we thought we’d never get in.We did and the cinema was absolutely packed. The volume and the amount of laughter Satch created was unforgettable. Walking home afterwards every other kid was imitating Satch and getting their own laughs acting out parts of the film. He also invested wisely and had 10% of Bowery Boys francize..
Thanks for the great video. We LOVE The Bowery Boys and watch several of their movies on DVD every week. They are still bringing a lot of happiness to the world. :)
After watching many of your great videos, I began to admire how well maintained individual graves are in the Hollywood cemeteries. I finally realize why the flat grave markers there are always nicely exposed and not covered up by the grass like they get here in Michigan. Very often, I search for graves, and only the center of the marker, the size of a candy bar, are visible. The rest is covered over by creeper grass, which we need since winter is so hard on it. It even fills in the carving on its surface with roots, making a mirror image of the marker. It takes some work to remove the grass, and if the stone has sunk, it often fills back in within a few summer months. When I clean them, I might imagine the occupant thanking me, that they can see the world again.
We had a cross eyed cat when I was a teenager and because he sometimes acted goofy, we named him Satch, which I believe was Huntz Halls name in the Bowery Boys.
If you grew up in the 1950s, you saw the Bowery Boys in the neighborhood theaters (my parents especially loved Hall); I watched them every weekend on TV in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
One of my favorite things the Bowery Boys did was resorting to all the "routine's" they had rehearsed whenever they got into trouble. For instance Slip Mahoney would yell out "Routine 26!!" and the boys would each go into action into a pre-rehearsed fight assault. Damn funny!
I love their movies.. I probably seen them all..my mom was a big fan...also I would like to thank you for these well made videos! Very interesting and informative...
You have educated me again on some of the stars in the movies. For the last couple of days I have been googling and have become a fan of the Dead End Kids. Once again thank you for a new memory.
Some of these movies are still very funny. Sad that so few people remember them or have heard of them. Sadly, they haven't retained their popularity as well as their contemporaries, The Three Stooges or some of the other comedy teams.
I liked all the Bowery Boys; Eastside Kids; Dead-End Kids, the whole gang, but my favorite is Leo, and his brother David Gorcey. Myriad of their films are on video on RUclips.
Hi Steve! I'm so loving the playlists. I'm able to just sit watch and just let them play while I color! I'm a huge adult coloring fan. Keep up the amazing work!!
I remember watching Old Sach in the Bowery Boys when I was a kid. Also watching all Abbot & Costello shows along with the Little rascals. By far the Bowery boys was a favorite of mine.
I just finished visiting the graves of all of the Bowery Boys and Dead End Kids that I could find in LA area. Most of them served in WWII so I'm editing a Veteran's Day tribute to them. Should be up in a few days. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow Steve! Never knew a church having such a place to honor the people within the walls of a church. Never heard of this actor until now, you are full of such great information on actors. Another great video. Keep up the great work!
I love the Bowery Boys ! They were all great but Huntz Hall (satch) was my favorite I can remember in the early 70s when I was a teen I worked in a pizzeria in Detroit and on Saturday night about 2or 3 in the morning after getting home from work I would watch the Bowery Boys and laugh my butt off sometimes they would have Charlie Chan or a movie with Jerry Lewis on those were the days I still have lots of DVDs of the Bowery Boys and watch them and still laugh my but off thank God for DVDs because I don't watch TV nowadays nothing but crap on there nowadays
I liked the way Leo Gorcey used the wrong words in phrases, but Huntz Hall was the most likable (in my opinion) of the Bowery Boys and always got the laughs. This is another great video, thank you for tracking Huntz down and bringing him to us!
Finally, someone who remembers them :-) I agree. I guess everyone loves a goofball. I was able to track down and visit most of their graves, but decided to upload them individually, rather than together. So, there are more to come. Thanks, again, for watching!
Charles Fred don't know if you know or not just thought I'd let you know in case you didn't Louie the sweet shop owner was actually Leo Gorcey father Bernard Gorcey who was killed in a car accident and I believe in the 1950s
@@slickmic6113 True! It was in 1955 when it happened. Leo could not bear to do another Bowery Boys movie without him.Leo made his last movie around 1966 when I was a boy. I also remember a double feature on the Sutphin Blvd in Jamaica, Queens in 1964 that had the 3 Stooges but I never got to see it. Jamaica is a neighborhood in NYC which had 4 movie theaters, the most of any neighborhood in Queens. Richmond Hill where I lived had 3 of them.
