Hi, just discovered your channel mostly because I'm still struggling on deciding what my hair texture actually is... Some super defined curls that look 3c when wet but become tighter when dry =4a/4b and I know no two people have the same hair texture. However it varies all over my head 😖😖. The struggle!!! Then there's the fact that my front and back hair are super easy to go through but my middle hair is thicker and even more coily if that even makes sense. Makes for a lot of difficulty detangling my whole head. and even when I go to town with a wide tooth comb I hear the dreaded snagging, cutting sounds which makes me cringe. when I put more product it's just messier and straw-like. Don't get me wrong, I adore my hair and all this difficulty just makes me more determined to find what works for me. I guess what I'm trying to ask is how did you determine your hair texture and how to care for it?
Hi dear! So sorry you're going through such a tough time. I didn't really focus on my curl pattern (curl typing, etc) but more so the density and finding what my curls respond to - your curl pattern is always going to seem looser when wet because the water weighs it down until it drys. You're probably using products that aren't water based so you need to use a good sulfate free shampoo and conditioner (jane carter solution, made beautiful) . When you detangle, I would recommend using a generous amount of deep conditioner (jane carter and as i am have really great deep conditioners) in really small sections...detangle with your fingers first and finish with wide tooth comb if needed. The reason why the middle of your hair is more coarse (my belief) is that there is less day to day tension on the center of your head so it's not as trained as the front or back part of your head (if that makes sense) - if none of this works, I would recommend going to a stylist to help you with your hair
