Very pleased to see you introduce Lustau's Fino Jarana in the mix. Lustau have a dry flor expression from each of the three points of the sherry triangle. This one comes from Jerez. These drinks should be served very cold and are extremely food friendly. Chill that bottle properly and drink some with fish and seafood. It's very good with cheese as well. My favourite fino whisky's are the Glenlivet's released by Signatory. They call them a first fill sherry butt so it's obvious it's fino due to the age and colour. I recently picked up a yummy 13 year (46%) for under £50. Kilchoman are hit and miss and the price is a bit steep. My favourite Kilchoman is the cask strength Quarter casks they did a few years ago. Had a very good one aged in a Port pipe too.
I've had only Machir Bay so far. Found it perfectly OK, very good value, competent malt, young but still tasty. Interesting enough to not be boring but also simple enough to not require full engagement. Four other Kilchoman expressions in my stash are waiting their turn to be opened and tasted 😀
I found a 9 year bourbon cask. Wow! Almost worth the price. What could be bad? Smoked vanilla buttercream. I still see 5 different bottles locally in NY. Been hesitating on the Sanaig at half the price of this Fino. Either way it's young, so I bought the expensive 9 year old and I'm very happy with it. I thing they are really onto something.
@@WhiskyJason1 Hello Jason! Interesting. I have never been there but they ship to Japan and Sweden, have a good selection so I bought quite a lot from them. Especially some very good single barrel Glenallachies 😊
Machir bay is fantastic. Maybe not your thing, BUT... add a few drips of medium brew green tea and let it aerate 20-30m, it will open a different character you may enjoy more!
I am not a big fan of the Machir Bay or the Sanaig but love their Single Cask Cask Strength expressions. Wasn’t motivated enough to buy the Fino Sherry finish as it is at 46% ABV.
A Kilchoman club Sauternes cask matured cask strength I got to try is my favourite so far, followed by the 2019 STR. I regret not buying an STR but get a similar experience out of a sherry cask Ledaig and Lagavulin 16... My friends and I have bought a bottle of the Mezcal finish for a tasting so we'll see how that goes 😜.

We will be doing a whisky and sherry blind tasting soon - let's see which sherry I enjoy the most in my whisky and alone

I think Kilchoman is a distillery to watch and enjoy
My favorite Kilchoman is a tie between the Suaternes cask and the Lock Gorm...
I think I have to try Loch Gorm
Am Burach or 2011 Madeira Cask Finish for Whizita are my favorites but the Fino is very good as well
Thanks Martin - Whizita is a great store in Itzehoe, my old home town

I have not had a Single Cask Cask Strength from Kilchoman yet

good luck with that Mezcal finish - I have not had a really good one yet
Loch Gorm is really nice but recently I had the 100% islay 10th edition and found it great
Now I need to find a bottle of Loch Gorm and 100% Islay - thanks!
IMO fino is very poor compared to them but of course it is a matter of taste. slainte!
