LYR / LNWR Merger Centenary Weekend
    Friday 17th & Saturday 18th June 2022
A special steam gala weekend to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the merger of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and the London & North Western Railway.
Four locomotives from the L&YR/LNWR appeared in steam over the weekend, including fresh from overhaul LNWR Coal Tank 0-6-2T 1054 and newly restored L&Y Pug 19, joining L&Y Saddletank 752 (51456) and 'A Class' Class 27 1300 (52322). All locomotives appeared with there pregrouping number plates.
The Coal Tank was launched back into traffic on the Saturday of the event, which also saw Pug Number 19 haul its first ever passenger trains. Between its passenger trips the pug was used to give shunting demonstrations in Castlecroft yard.
On the Friday, we take a look at the 3P20 Parcels Group photo charter at Baron Street, featuring 752 and 19 shunting a rake of wonderfully freshly repainted wagons in pre-grouping liveries.
On the Saturday of the gala GWR 0-6-2T 5643 was also in service (although was replaced on its last booked turn by 1054 and 752). On Friday, we see Jinty 47298 departing Ramsbottom to Rawtenstall on the first train of the day. Also on Friday, before the photo charter, 752 is seen in Castlecroft yard (home of the Bury Transport Museum), where it was dropping off coal ahead of the shunting demonstrations.
Locations featured: Bury Bolton Street, Bury North/Castlecroft, Summerseat, Brooksbottom and Nutall Tunnels and Baron Street yard.
Footage from the pre-gala photo charter: • Lancashire & Yorkshire...
Extended footage from the shunting at Castlecroft on the Saturday of the gala: • L&Y Pug shunts at Cast...
Please note, there is no public lineside access on the East Lancs, lineside shots are taken as a Working Member with Accredited Photographer status.

It would have been nice to have seen the Super D at this event. Still, what will be will be.
Great video, well filmed as per always.
Cheers and keep up the great work - Alex.

9:56 I love how the sound the engine makes sounds like it’s tired and panting

Why is it that the ex L&Y 2-4-2 tank number 1008 has not been released from the National Railway Museum for preservation onto its home tracks ?

I don't know, but I was happy to see it at the Railway Museum.

If only there were a couple of big passenger engines left from each along with a rake of period stock to go with them... oh what a sight that would be

It baffles me that there isn't a single LNWR DX Goods at this reunion. As the most produced engine in Britain, I'm shocked all were scrapped.

I didn’t know any of these “Dapol/Hornby” Pugs were preserved so it’s good to see

Why is it that ex L&Y 2-4-2 tank number 1008 has not been released from the National Railway Museum for preservation onto its home tracks ? Surely it’s better to see locomotives running on their home ground than stuck in a museum.

When was the coal tank running? i walked the line from Bury to Rawenstall and back and didn't spot it once :(

On Saturday it ran the 12:10 shuttle Bury to Rasmbottom (before which it was formally relaunched at BBS), and then due to issues with 5643, took the last train of the day with 752 to Rawtenstall (rather than the train before with 1300).

What was the wreath for on the coal tank's smokebox door?
