Really valuable and has enabled me to keep 3 ET4's running which would've all otherwise have been used for parts or scrapped. Bravo for helping to keep a part of scooter history alive.
I wish the old Flys made it this easy to access the fuel/air screw you have to disassemble the entire back end just to get the seat bucket all the way off, super annoying
You mentioned that when the scooter warms up then it stalls. I have a 50cc scooter which does the same thing. when it gets warm then sometimes it stalls when I come to a stop. When I start it back up it does not stay on unless I keep revving the engine. Which screw should I adjust?

Hi Robot. So what's the proper idle adjustment approach for a scooter that won't idle when warm? How does one approach this when it won't keep running to make adjustments? Idle screw first, then mixture? Other way around? Etc... Note that the carb was recently rebuilt... professionally...but it's a 2+ hour highway drive to take it back to them, I don't wanna do that. Hi, I have a 2012 50cc 4T 4V Piaggio Vespa LX50. It stalls out when warm, get's worse the hotter it gets. It has 18.000km on it and has been running GOOD. I decided to do some servce change the spark plug, the air filter and also installed a bigger main jet, (77). Immediately after it started top develop these problems, cutting out at stoplights and just does not want to idle when warm. I started with checking vacuum leaks, but it seems ok, no fuel in the vacuum line to the manifold (I am ordering a new manifold as its old) I have cleaned the idle jet its completely clear, didn't help. I then removed the 77 jet and installed the Original one. I then checked if the spark plug was lose and it was not, so I removed it and it was black, so it seems I am running rich. I tried adjusting the mixture, going all the way in and then 1.5 turns out but it still did not help. Any ideas?

I continued to work on the Vespa until it decided not to start at all. -replaced the intake pipe -replaced the carburetor -replaced the CDI (with a Malossi performance unit) -replaced the fuel pump and lines -replaced the spark plug cap -removed and then replaced the air filter Still no go.. not even with starter fluid. Took the spark plug out and checked the gap, and still no go. Took it to the shop, and they got it going quite quickly. Turned out to be a faulty spark plug wire and they also claimed a faulty spark plug (which I dont believe). Minor costs. Runs so good that I installed a Malossi performance Variator and a new Stator. Goes to 75km/h on the Vespa speedometer. Then bought a 70cc Cylinder kit. Still need to install it though
Hi! i found ur video very useful. thanks for that. i just want to ask a question where i can buy, diaphragm spring holder, its a white plastic with 4 prongs, which holds the spring and diaphragm. also thats it affect the accelation if you dont have it? i guess the previos owner played with it but unable to put it back together. i just cleaned my vespa LX150 carburator by watching ur video, i have 358 miles on it, it has a good idle, but it kind of rough on accelaration, it doest reach more than 30mph, and started to vibrate. can i have ur expert opinion, i dont want to bring to the shop and rip me off with charges. thanks.
Quick question about the electric choke. Does that begin to warm when the key is turned to the on position or only when cranking and/or startup and beginning idle. Thanks! (2001 ET4 150)
hi...i have a gilera runner 200st 4t scooter with the same piaggio 200 4t motor...the carburator is the keihin cvk30...how many turns out of the fuel screw is the right adjustment of my carb? Now i am set at 2 turns out from the bottom? My mixture is right at this position? Its lean or rich?
I have a piaggio fly 50 4T year 2009. After the winter break with some old petrol in the tank at cold start it was 2 minutes idling but when I try to accelerate it dies. After a series of starts and removing the old gasoline, they can accelerate without dying and after a few kilometers on the road (with the engine warm) at idle it stops immediately and I can start it, but only accelerated to maximum or otherwise it does not start. Do you think there is a problem?
Hi Robot! I own 2 Vespa's (2 and 4 stroke) and now a Liberty 125cc just for commuting! She has done 5700 miles and is a 2006 model! Rides fine but is a bit slow off the lights! Once up and running accelerates as a 125 should, but it is just that initial off the lights acceleration I need! Any tips? Regards
Hello, my kid have a piaggio fly 50cc 4 stroke. When standing still on idle, the clutch/ cvt engages and drag the scooter slowely forward. Du you thing the problem could be to high idle or problems with the cvt? Thanks, Vidar- Norway
I am LX with the same carburetor. But after cleaning the carburetor, the engine sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't. Of course, the spark plug was also replaced. As for the service center, the spark plug is wet, so it may not start. Will adjusting the pilot screw solve the problem?
My BV 250 is getting a very bad gas mileage, like 28 mpg. New intake manifold, valves adjusted, clean carb, clean air filter also. Idle is good at +-1650 RPM, runs fine and strong, only problem is this terrible gas mileage. Already looked for leaks, but found nothing. Really disapointed about this. Don´t know what else can it be.
Hello Robot, I like your video. The Vespa 150 I am working on is bogging down at exactly 20-25 miles/hr. The carb is clean , the air filter is clean, plenty of gas. I did buy also an electric chocke from you guys, thinking that maybe the old one is bad and would affect the gas supply. Still, is bogging down at 20-25 miles/hr. Any suggestion? If I cover the air intake, to flood the carburetor, is reeving up well.

Yeah did a deep a time ago where I took off all the carburettor and wash it up in petrol put if back together and it was fine for a while then it started the same thing over again and also if you don’t mind my et2 has got no button start I always have to use the foot starter but I would like to fix one on it how do I go about it thanks for the reply

Do you think the warm idle issue could be spark plug related or is it mostly just the clogged idle jet? I bought a used vespa GTS 250 2006 4 weeks ago and it's started to cut out if I stop then start whilst warm, such as going for food shop or stopping for petrol. Today it fully broke down at a crossroads I had to wait 1 hour until it was cold and would start, then I made sure I never let the engine idle at junctions until I got home I kept the revs up a little bit and it was absolutely fine. Is it dangerous? The garage can't fit me in for 3 weeks. It's fine from cold start first thing in the morning

Hi, I have a 2012 50cc 4T 4V Piaggio Vespa LX50. It stalls out when warm, get's worse the hotter it gets. It has 18.000km on it and has been running GOOD. try putting some grease on the lip of the diaphragm and re-seating it.

It's normal for a carburator, because you have to get fuel in it before starting after being unused for some days
Hard starting problems are caused by "this guy" but I can't see what you're pointing to. What needs to be unclogged?

Have you done a deep clean? Sounds like you could have a clogged idle jet? We have several videos covering carb cleans. Thanks!
