I actually like that stand and the only thing I’ve change is making the legs slightly wider with the legs being straight instead of diagonal.as far as putting an engine on the stand with the hoist,turn the stand around backward so both sets of legs are running the same direction.no sweat.I have the one like you made,I’m gonna make like you but like I said then you can put a drip pan on the floor between the legs to catch oil,lubes and what not
If you turn the engine stand around and back it in, then lower the engine down in front of it, it'll bolt right up without doing all that. Totally safe.
I've got a T-style stand I'm planning on modifying. I'll likely be partially stealing your idea, although my plan is to extend the front leg further forward, then have the crossbar on the front, and also have a way to support the front end of the engine as well, (Jeep 4.0 I6 are heavy and LONG))
Good idea. It always made me nervous that the front of these engines are just hanging out there with no support. My general plan once I get the engine built to a point where I don't need to rotate any more, I'll switch to a run stand. Good luck with your project. Cheers John 🍻
Buy 2 7”bolts 3/4 i believe with the nut and bolt the hoist legs on the outside and you can fit the engine stand in all the way back wirh no problem, just make a piece of pipe to go in the original place of the legs so when tightening the bolt it doesnt squish the metal together.
I tried all ways. Just could not get close enough. This set up is way easier and safer. I actually just leave the center one on all the time. Cheers John.

I tried that, the rear crossmember restricted the ability to get close enough, even with the crane at full extension.

You certainly could do that too. I just wanted the ability also to fold up the legs of the crane when done.
Did you try turning around coming over top, but idea does make it more steady and secure
