I mean the 2x8 pin connectors above and to the left of the CPU. The answer is NO!! Whew! I didnt want to have to buy a new PSU just for this board. I'm really glad you made this video because it gave me a look at the bios and options. However, you quickly glanced over mostly everything and it didn't give me the info I was looking for. I was also hoping for some driver and updates being installed but no. Still it's better than nothing and I appreciate it. Thumbs up. Thanks.
Great video! Question, where did you get the screws to put the motherboard in the box? I purchased my b650 today and it didnt come with any. Thank you!
The screws for the motherboard come with your case. If you do not have these available, they are pretty generic and can be purchased at many places: www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=motherboard+screws
Do you have long boot times with this board? I recently purchased it and the post time is over 20 seconds for me. That seems a bit long to me, my old board took less than 5 seconds.
At first boot, and especially after changes in the BIOS, it can take longer to boot/POST. I remember I had this issue when first using Ryzen AM4 motherboards back in 2017. I'm guessing some BIOS updates may address this as new releases come out.
Thanks for the detailed review! I see you use Writh Prism for CPU cooling, did you notice the throttling? Does writh prism enough for cooling your CPU? Do you have a chance to dimension the motherboard? I am asking about the dimensioning because I want to buy this motherboard, but I faced a problem: I bought the RTX A4000 and installed it in MSI Tomohawk B450 and the edge of the GPU is impeded to the SATA. So I will really appreciate it if you have a chance to dimension the distance from the center of PCIe to the upper edge of SATA.
I only used the Prism CPU cooler for demo purposes and wouldn't recommend it for long term use, or especially for gaming. I had to turn off some CPU options that push the CPU to higher Mhz so it wouldn't hit temps of over 60 degrees even just being in the BIOS. AMD is releasing the 65w variants of these CPUs soon, so using this cooler on those may work out. Regarding dimensions, I wasn't able to get any dimensions taken, but there are SATA ports on the bottom as well too. However, the SATA ports on the right side of the motherboard are actually at a slightly lower position than the b450 counterpart. Being your dedicated card is single slot, it doesn't appear there would be a physical issue. I'll definitely start making more comments on this in future videos, since I'm sure others may have similar inquiries on the board. Take a look at some shots here of the board, and hope this helps: www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/Gallery

Check to see that then WIFI module is enabled in the BIOS. There have been moments that the device is deactivated and just needs to be enabled. It's been random with MSI motherboards, I know ASUS usually leaves theirs disabled by default.
When booting up it says Over current have been detected on your usb device System will shutdown after 15 seconds to protect your motherboard, But there's nothing plugged in usb headers. what do I do?
I got this. What should we doing with the third M.2 drive? Why didn’t they include a heat sink? I there a way to add one or must we buy a drive that included one? Also, if I use all three M.2 drives, do I lose a stats drive or something else? One of the pci slots?
I'm guessing the motherboard manufacturer doesn't expect most people to use all available M.2 slots, so the boards (expect the higher tier ones) only have heatsinks on the top 2 slots. Using all 3 M.2s will definitely bring some loss to their performance, particularly the 2nd and 3rd slot.
Look for the connectors labeled SYSFAN 1,2, etc on your board. if you need to connect the CPU fan, look for CPUFAN on the top part of the board, closer to the CPU socket.
Cant get the wifi to work for the life of me! Have it set to wifi only in bios and have the antennas connected... Still cant get it to read wifi to even set windows up
Possible dumb question, but I’ll ask anyway. Are Intel XMP DDR5 sticks compatible with this AMD mobo? I’m asking because I didn’t realize I bought 2x16GB Corsair Intel XMP DDR5 sticks until today. I built a new PC last month with this same mobo and have had weird low FPS issues since day one (Ryzen 5 7600X with an XFX Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900XT w/20GB GDDR6). It scores well using Cinebench, but I have majorly low FPS in RDR2 (20 fps at medium settings) and about the same with GTA, with occasional crashes during both and crashes while playing The Hunter; Call of the Wild. I’m guessing the Intel XMP Corsair memory sticks might be causing this, but I’m barely PC hardware savvy (and apparently unable to read when overlooking Intel in the product description when I was looking for AMD compatible RAM) to know if this is what’s causing my PC issues.
XMP sticks are not compatible with AMD. I saw a set that claimed compatibility with AMD and Intel but I would steer toward AMD Expo only - these are what I picked up for my build on this same MSI mobo and Ryzen 7 7700: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series (AMD Expo) DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s CL30-38-38-96 1.35V (F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR)
There is no physical power switch on the board itself, unless you connect the Power switch onto the board. There is a way to use a flathead to turn the board on by making contact with these two connectors: www.technewstoday.com/power-switch-on-motherboard/

hi i have a quick question, about the power connectors. So my PSU (corsair 850W) came in with two CPU and PCIe cables, i assume you have to plug 2 CPU power cables on the mother board. And the two PCIe cables for the GPU. Sorry i havent build in a new pc in 8 years :D

A single 8 pin CPU plug is good for somewhat like 265w, a second connection is beneficial for some systems (cough intel i9). Honest, however Ryzen desktop CPU's will never use them, as the CPU socket is hard capped at a maximum power output of 230w. It's really a marketing thing, not even LN2 extreme overclockers will use it as the socket simply can't supply the full power of a single 8 pin CPU connector.
Just installed this board, went "eh, i should be fine without the BIOS update" and now it won't post + shows yellow for DRAM & red for CPU xD Many regrets

The motherboard is really, really bad. I knew that the MSI startup is slow, but not that slow. After installing just Windows, with nothing on it, it takes at least 1 minute just to start. I've tried latest BIOS and it's even worse because it gave BSOD. I had to downgrade it (160 was initially) to make it start somehow. Let me explain. After you press the start button it just stays, screen is black and for at least 40 seconds the CPU and RAM LED (Red and Yellow) are on. After that they switch off, the green one for Boot will be on a second or two on and after all are off, then you'll see Win starting up. After Windows starts there's no problem. It works fine, but time is money and I can't wait it over a minute to start. So much money, but it starts like a 486 from the '80s. I've timed it with an older laptop which is on Win 8.1, i5 6th gen, 20 GB RAM and it takes less than 30 seconds. I've changed it to Gygabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX. DO NOT buy MSI !!!

When booting up it says Over current have been detected on your usb device System will shutdown after 15 seconds to protect your motherboard, But there's nothing plugged in usb headers. what do I do?
How can install Windows on it i have a USB Stick in it but it goes to the bios every time
Go into the BIOS and be sure your USB stick is an available boot device. You should see it listed there.
@@Silent157 yes i Know it was an another mistake Had the wrong win Installation on my Stick
I’m having trouble finding where to plug my fans into
Look for the connectors labeled SYSFAN 1,2, etc on your board. if you need to connect the CPU fan, look for CPUFAN on the top part of the board, closer to the CPU socket.
Could you review the ASRock Z690 Extreme Wi-Fi?
Been trying to get my hands on an Asrock motherboard and definitely will do a review if I catch one.
@@Silent157 Alrighty 👍
My mouse keeps vanishing in the bios. How do I fix that? I can’t update settings.
Is this occurring when using a different mouse as well? Does the keyboard also stop working?
Cant get the wifi to work for the life of me! Have it set to wifi only in bios and have the antennas connected... Still cant get it to read wifi to even set windows up
You may need to install drivers for your WIFI. You can download them from MSI's site:
www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support#driver
Where do I find the pwr switch to force boot the motherboard
There is no physical power switch on the board itself, unless you connect the Power switch onto the board. There is a way to use a flathead to turn the board on by making contact with these two connectors:
www.technewstoday.com/power-switch-on-motherboard/
@@Silent157 i ended up figuring it out
Hey. Maybe you know why I can’t upgrade for same motherboard bios. Im stuck with the oldest one. Whe i try to install newest one my pc runs to error mode with red and yellow lights and doesn’t load any thing. Thnx for your time
Do you see any errors during the process itself or afterwards? May want to change the RAM chips temporarily or using a different USB port/drive.
hi i have a quick question, about the power connectors.
So my PSU (corsair 850W) came in with two CPU and PCIe cables, i assume you have to plug 2 CPU power cables on the mother board. And the two PCIe cables for the GPU. Sorry i havent build in a new pc in 8 years :D
Yes
really nice video ! i have bought the msi mag b 650 mortar wifi motherboard and i have a problem
i got windows on an old ssd hard drive i plugged in all my ssd and hdds they all get recognized but it doesnt boot windows from the ssd is there any way to do it manual ? i tried f 11 but i cant choose any ssd and it sends me back to bios
In the BIOS under the list of Boot selections, do you see "Windows Boot Manager" listed with your SSD?
@@Silent157 no i have not but i got an usb stick with windows and i booted windwos from that and it worked now thx for ur response though
Makes sense and haven't plugged in the 2nd connector myself.
I'm actually gonna go ahead and like this video
Thanks again for watching!
I bought this motherboard for my ryzen 5 7600x ..
Did it work good? Just installed mine tonight.
@@DizmalxDis a good cpu and it works very good
I can't get mine to start up its frustrating
Hi, did you have trouble with the wifi antennas? I screwed them in but I am not picking up any wifi signals
Check to see if there are updated drivers on MSI's site compared to the ones you have currently. The signal appeared fine for me.
@@Silent157 this worked
Does it not need an I/O shield?
The I/O shield is built onto the motherboard itself.
Ever since I got am5 they won’t read my hdd and it tells me (no Internet secured) I can’t fully upgrade without having these problems
Which hard drive do you have that is having issues being read?
you didnt spread that paste around. Isnt that wrong? I guess thats why youre CPU temp is high in the bios
And put a fan on it instead of all in one cooler lol
I can't install windows or linux o.s, can't disable secure boot
Do CT8G48C40U5 rams have XMP profile?
Just installed this board, went "eh, i should be fine without the BIOS update" and now it won't post + shows yellow for DRAM & red for CPU xD
Many regrets
Hello, I just have built a pc with this mb, but there’s no image showing up, eitherway I connect it the mb hdmi (I use r5 7600x) or to the graphic card, you know if it shows at least the bios with anything connected? I don’t know whats the problem:(
Did u fix it? May have been that you had 2 sticks of ram in. Try 1 stick of ram. Are you plugged into the gpu and not the motherboard?
Make sure to update to the Latest bios.
@@EricTireguyI returned it back, I couldn’t fix it, and I’ll get my money back, so I guess it was the motherboard itself that wasn’t working
Was the box not sealed at all? Can you confirm please?
I just got an MSI 650 Edge and it was an open box, no seal, just the anti-static bag it was covered in was sealed with 1 sticker.
MSI motherboard boxes don't usually have a seal, like boards from ASUS do. Actually, I don't believe I have seen an MSI board with a seal in many years.
Can it be overclocked
Does this MB need 2 cpu power cables plugged in, there are 2 power connectors on MB….
It's not necessary yo plug in both connectors, unless you are planning to do some extreme overclocking.
I have just installed one of these in a brand new case with new components.Intel processor…
The board is dead! Completely unresponsive. No lights, no beeps… nothing. I have no idea what is going on…
What do you think?
This particular board is for AMD Ryzen CPUs, not Intel CPUs. Which board were you trying to use?
Thank you for review. But it's too much thermal paste 24:24
Where is cha fan?
There a few chassis fan connections on this board.
@@Silent157 i got it, thanks

Hello i got a short question i buyed today the same case and motherboard. I got a little problem
I wont fit normaly my old times i remember to take the metal panel off from the motherboard because most time want fit.. but on this mother borad its differnt bulid then the old ones.
If i Stuck it perfectly in the top right missing like half the screw to sit normal and cant move the motherboard more in.
Do you got an idea its like 10y ago i bulid a pc.
I even need to remove the Fan on the back to get it easier in.
Edit: thank you for your answer.
Maybe i to old for this today..
And sry for my bad english
Show me pls a M2 windows11 installtion KEKW,... SPOILER it dont work
The motherboard is really, really bad.
I just saw your comment on another video lol 😂
@@FinkleStinkle is this guy saying the truth?? Is this board bad?
And whats the boot time with the Aorus elite ax
I'm just beware of ESD.
wished you would have used the m2 i cant seem to get my m2 to be the boot drive. cant even install windows fresh. it is recognized by just not for boot.
Do you see this same issue when trying one of the other M.2 slots as well? Have you been able to test your drive on another system as well?
Just clarifying you can use a ryzen 7 7700x for this right?
Hi so I got this mother board recently and when I go to install windows on it from a usb i made and i hit f 11 to get to the boot menu the only thing that pops up says “ uefi usb partition 1” so I pick that and it just turns to a black screen with a white underscore in the top left .
I was wondering if you had any tips
Which device are you attempting to boot from? Be sure it is on the list of boot options before using the F11 option.
@@Silent157 I fixed it I just needed a bios update bc I forgot I got one of the non x series by accident
