@@DelverofDungeons And I will look forward to it with great anticipation! Aboleths and Illithids (and Flumphs) are probably my favourite species in D&D! They have so much fascinating lore!
When my character first saw a Mind Flayer he realized just how fxxked the party was thankfully it just walked away my character is a aberrant mind sorcerer so he knows full well just how deadly a Mind Flayer can be this happened in my current campaign Dragon Heist we was only level 1 when we saw a Mind Flayer for the first time
I've seen some interesting campaigns start this way, where the party meets the creature that will be the big bad early on in the story, escape him, and now they have an idea of the max level that the campaign is intended to reach.
I also like the idea of an aberrant mind sorcerer or an old one patron warlock meeting a mindflayer and being the voice that tells the party not to fight, just run!
I'm pretty sure the original is dead. This is just the baby mindflayer first "learning to walk" with nothing but the residual host memories that he ate as a tadpole to go off of. The moment he began connecting to the other members of his colony (accessing their communal memories), he began to cease feeling that something was out of place. However, the idea that this "first meal" (their host) is formulative to their personality and interests is quite interesting... it has a lot of potential for storytelling. Some incredibly evil and ambitious Drow is captured by mindflayers, and a few decades later a wildly ambitious mindflayer begins causing chaos in the underdark. The Drow then realize that exiling their former queen might have had some disastrous consequences down the line... she's causing them trouble even after her death.
It depends. If you aren't within 5 miles of a Elder Brain you essentially just wake up in a squid body with cool new powers on top of your old powers and a difficult to control urge to kill people and eat brains. But if you become a Mind Flayer within 5 miles of an Elder Brain you basically become a thrall, anything that used to be you will be quickly overwritten by the Elder Brain and your instincts as a Mind Flayer. Either way your brain chemistry changes and your thought process will fundamentally change even if it doesn't necessarily change who you are right away, you also just lose your soul regardless of the Elder Brain.
I went full alien invader with the mindy boys of my campaign, flying down from the stars with advanced weapons during a scramble among differencing aberrant factions to colonize this world funnily enough, they ended up helping the primitives as quite a number of the world's denizens would gladly and willingly join their collective over, say, getting exterminated by mi-go or eaten by grell.
AJ Pickett has some good stuff on his channel about their lore (from which you can extrapolate their tactics and adventures etc). I think he has 3 or 4 videos regarding the illithids
Sponges...seastars, why can't they let me play my clarinet in peace?
-illithid
Next story: due to his interest in the forbidden arcane, he becomes an Alhoon.
Oh, you have to do through the eyes of a Drow Priestess
Throw in a brief mention that she's heard rumors of Drow mages disappearing recently...
Fascinating! This is great storytelling! I love the Illithids!
Do you have any plans of covering the Aboleths in a similar masterpiece?
I do now! 😈

My bad. I didn't know you already did Mindflayers.
Great video btw
Oh...I thought you just died. Not actually become one of them. Cool. I wouldn't really be gone.

@@leyrua nice.
The soul passes on to whatever afterlife suits it, so yes, you're gone. The new illithid has all your memories, though
