LOL this is so cool i was born and raised just south of Dunnellon and this used to be ran by csx coal trains to the plant loved to watch the dash 9's running heavy with a load of coal a mile and a half long....
Fantastic video and great catch. I have fond memories of the west coast sub as a child going to rainbow river in the summer and watching the endless trains rolling by.
Very cool video. Interesting that the short line is able to make enough to stay in operation doing little more than hauling decommissioned nuclear reactor fuel and components. I'm all in for most things that keep short lines in business. Although I hope they can stay in service once the decom is complete. Excellent video as always!
@@floridarailfan You're welcome. I only recently discovered your channel via the Yadkin Valley videos starting with that awesome SD90 Cummins unit. I've been binging your channel as time allows.
The waste in the car is extremely low level. It's nothing to really worry about. Anything worth keeping distance from is in large sealed casks and you won't be able to get within any kind of close range due to guards and law enforcement. This is likely building materials, papers, soil, gloves, pretty much anything close enough to the actual fuel rods to get irradiated. Technically the gloves your doctor wears for an xray are radioactive waste when they are disposed of just a bit of trivia.
When you speak of radioactive it can be from Low Level which is sightly radioactive, which means it you lived with it 24/7 there would be very minor effect on you to Class B fuel rod waste that unshielded exposure would kill you in 30 minutes. Please keep this in context.
Grew up near Weeki Wachee Springs and for pretty much my entire youth, I had not once seen a train on the West Coast Sub at the plant. It's good to see that it actually is still active.
The power plant is still active to my knowledge, I know they receive coal trains once in a blue moon. I'm pretty sure the FNOR trains are just as rare, so I was definitely psyched.
Great coverage of a wonderful line and a fascinating operation (if only we didn't have the grafitti!). Really enjoyed your travelogue as we went along. Hope you might make the FECRS convention next month. Will be coming down for that and work on our Florida Adventures In Railroading auto-train (the original pre amtrak!) caboose #3 now at new home on the Saint Marys. In any event look forward to your next Florida trek as your insights always greatly enhance the journies.
Hi There! I live in Crystal River FL near the FNOR Railroad Tracks I sometimes railfan there trains, they ran a train last month which I saw in Dunnellon which I have a video of it but sadly I’ve just been informed that FNOR will still being getting coal trains but because the part of Duke Energy's Power Plant in Red Level, FL that was powered by coal has been converted to burning natural gas. The old coal area is about to be demolished up to 2023 But still to this day there receive coal trains on the line which is the West Coast Subdivision used to be own by CSX Back down before FNOR Bought it in 2005 when it used to go up to High Springs, FL and when the FWC Railroad Went out of business. The trains will still run on the FNOR but just not be used that much anymore since the coal trains are marked As Needed And at least CSX and FNOR are saving manatee’s from coal infested waters. But CSX C051 and C052 will still run Also Very Nice Video!
@@floridarailfan Yea it is cool to see the West Coast Subdivision still running trains so far to this day Also quick question does the FNOR West Coast Sub have a radio feed if you have any idea please let me know if they do.
Well I lived and was born and raised right outside of Dunnellon and it used to be CSX coal train's and then i don't know what the FN run's i would assume coal to the plant right?
8:50. Sorry bruh, I stopped in the middle of the woods to fire up a doobie. 😁👍🏻
Another great video!
Thanks a lot man!

Appreciate the kind words. It’s an awesome line for sure!
So thats why i see those things in williston a few months back

Thank you, I agree. Shortlines often have great and enthusiastic people running them, the FNOR is no exception. Thanks for the kind words as well!

Very well put together video and great shots, truly enjoyed! -Ken
That would be an interesting road to model
It would!
Good video. I'm honestly pretty surprised the police weren't called on you, just out of paranoia over that nuclear waste car.
Thank you, the railroad is a friendly one and I kept my distance :)

nice video! 4603's Nathan M3H sounds an awful lot like a M3H on a railroad near me!
Thank you!
Love this

Are they doing crew change at the Dunllon yard for crew change that bring coal from coal country up north
@@jeffrumbach150 no the conductor got out and drove a truck up to Newberry that way the crew could get back to Dunnellon without the train
Dunnellon was the last time that I ever saw a Florida West Coast engine on a line
Do you recall the song playing on the radio beginning at 2:30? Well done video!
I Wish Grandpas Never Died by Riley Green…one of the best country songs ever
Country music and railroading are two things I’ll never get tired of. Thanks!

Also kirby farms got that train in a military auction
Very nice video. Great catch! Thanks for sharing. Dave

@@floridarailfan Ah ok that’s ok I was just wondering since the west coast subdivision is the nearest railroad track near my house
Nice catches!
So what's 4603 horn?
No clue man, something loud
sounds like a fouled M3
👍🏻👀👍🏻
Neat little operation! When does Florida Northern typically run?
I think the Candler Branch sees twice weekly service, and the West Coast sub is once a week, if that. *I think*

How much radiation did you get exposed to? In all seriousness, nice catch!
Ha! Still kicking, so hopefully not too much. Thank you!
