Do you know the first attraction I ever built when I first came here from Scotland? It was a flea circus...Petticoat Lane. It was quite spectacular.
Aren’t you that guy who built a time machine.....out of a delorean?
Just rewatching the film and learned about them for the first time. What an interesting (albeit a bit cruel) way to use insects.
@@akiraigarashi2874 this guy in the video is his brother, how matching !
@@akiraigarashi2874 agreed
The reason why I am here, lol.
I wonder if this Flea Circus was anything like the one John Hammond from Jurassic Park built.
Johnno9989 Played by this guy's brother.
I'm now watching JP and wanted to see a real flea circus in action. I have the movie paused hahaha.
5iwot5 Me too! I’m watching JP and so I finally wanted to see if it was a real thing so I paused it.
Johnno9989 watching it now lol
Johnno9989 damn I literally thought I was the only one I’m kinda mind blown lmao
For those that don’t know; John Hammond from Jurassic park was played by Richard Attenborough, David’s brother.
I never knew that. But now that you pointed it out I can see some resemblance.
And in Jurassic Park, John Hammond talks about having a fake flea circus as the reason he wanted a real park with real animals.
Thought you were gonna say he was played by a group of fleas from the circus
🤯🤯🤯
I legit came here to look up flea circus’s in the middle of watching Jurassic park to see if they were a real thing😂😂
I honestly never thought they actually used real fleas. I always thought it was like what his brother’s character John Hammond described it as, an illusion using mechanical parts.
Some are mechanical illusions and some actually include live fleas. More newer examples tend to move towards mechanical circuses though.
There's both! Some have real fleas but also have magnets/other types of things to do the 'tricks'. It's all for fun, back then.
I never imagined I would find myself feeling bad for fleas xD
ikr 😭this is a straight up flea torture device 💀
😆 I was thinking the same thing! 🐜
@@liamfrr good they deserve it
I'll never feel bad for those little demons.
I agree. This is actually pretty cruel.
I saw a flea circus once when I was very very young. I just recently remembered, and i'm suprised they're actually real.
Man, I always thought the point of a flea circus was that you could hardly even see them and that it was, in fact, just a setpiece where there weren't any fleas at all and it was the imagination of spectators while someone describes it.
Ironically his brother was an actor in Jurassic Park and said that, that people would go to flea circuses and insist they really saw the fleas even though they were fake, and that's why he made Jurassic Park (to show people something really amazing).
Lmfao i was watching Jurassic park and they said flea circus so i figured i look it up
Radical Al yo i literally was just watching that and did the same 🤣🤣🤣
Literally the sameeeeeee!
SAME
even bigger mindfuck - Hammond in Jurassic park was played by Richard Attenborough. And this video is with David Attenborough..
lmao same
Awe man I thought I was going to see fleas doing acrobatic trapeze stunts, riding elephants and juggling bowling pins.
Thank you
When I was younger, i thought the Flea Circus John Hammond was talking about was a metaphor.
guessing you'll like this too: 'The Geckoator II - ben Crick" ruclips.net/video/V1Q6VcMsmS8/видео.html
The scary part is that some guy had to come up with this idea out of the blue. He was probably cooped up in his apartment with too much time on his hands and nowhere to go and nothing to do and totally bored and...oh wait.
Anybody here from Storybreak?
You know the writer's room podcast where 3 hollywood professionals have an hour to turn a humble idea into a pitch for an awesome movie?
Yes!
Yes i loved hearing will scream about if they were real or not
Seriously thought this was fake when they said it.
hahahaaa YES
Yoooooooo
In under two minutes I have received an education in this obscure science. Previously I thought flea circuses were a con, but not so.
Some were, in that they were super teeny tiny mechanisms which, on their own, are impressive enough. I swear I read that somewhere
this reminds me of Jurassic park
It should, cuz the guy who played John Hammond in Jurrasic Park is David Attenborough's brother.
i’ve always onder what one looks like , thx for this :D
This adds so much to “a bugs life”😂
Look, mommy, I can see the fleas!
NeebsGaming sent me here!
Yup
Same lol.
Such a Spectacular sight to behold.
It's really too bad one of the most fascinating animals is also one of the most annoying....
Julian Dale this seems like a great way of getting revenge
I actually find fleas rather endearing. Their faces remind me of Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons.
I just learned about this in class and I cannot believe it’s real omg
Story Break podcast led me here
While watching this I am having an uncontrollable itch all over my body and I cannot scratch enough or even reach all the places on my body that itch!
We missing this
Spared no expense. (sorry, I couldn't resist)
Who better than David Attenborough to prove it to us! I just HOPE it wasn’t April 1st? However, I believe David A 👍🤗
If they were near me I too would leap with great acceleration and run like hell ... to the hills
Eeek, the circus itself is cute though! I feel itchy now!
Imagine the early days of large mammal domestication. I wonder if the same results could be harnessed through centuries of insectoid pest torture.
John Hammonds was Automated in london (;/
When I first moved from Scotland I started a flea circus
What the Flea..!!
Beasts of burden
Mr Flea: "Watch me get shot out of a canon!"
Circus Owner: (The big switcharoo)
"They won't know it's not the same flea, as all fleas look the same"
I'm waiting for the "animal cruelty" comments
I did one 😹
I was wondering if this would be classified as animal cruelty to fleas myself lol.. 😄
Perhaps but you do feed them with your own blood. They should be happy. Celebrity status too! 😁😁😁
I was waiting for people whining about "cancel culture" and boy howdy, was I ever not disappointed.
@@janeclarkson8471 theyre tied to the coil wires for the rest of their lives as far as I know, doesnt sound too happy to me xd
Also, to the original comment, what's so bad about feeling empathy for another living creature? Isn't it just good that people care?
I'm watching jurassic Park and John Hammond said he used to have a flea circus. So I came to see what the fuss was about.
So the flea is glued onto the equipment eowww
Have you heard of Brian Shaw?
Pure bug gaming baby straight to the sticks
I’m watching his brother on Jurassic park talk about a flea circus
Isn’t it still sort of cruel?
i don't think so, because they're basically just some pests, just like mosquitos and flies. And they do nothing but give the human diseases.
the secret to a fleas strength is gravity.
gravity acts on a proportional scale...
if a spider was as large as an elephant it's thin legs could not support it's weight.
No, it is in fact the protein resilin that gives them their ability to store and release large amounts of energy which allows them to do this. That is, however, why ants are able to carry much more than their body weight. But for their size their muscle mass is a large proportion of their weight, which is why a flea can't do the same yet can pull something that much larger and heavier than their body thanks to resilin.
Limoman7 and their exoskeleton ...
That’s why you can’t just scale up or down animals in movies.
Limoman7 exactly
What about shelob
If there is a flea circus, why not make a Flea Market?
Brilliant idea! lol
Screech had a flea circus
I actually searched this cause of the Jurassic Park line and lo and behold all the comments are about John Hammond lol
and his brother
Wait they are actually real?
If Sir David says they're real, then they're real!
If he knew where to find an actual flea circus I would bring Freddie who is a flea
I want to know more about Freddie.
@@ElliotBrownJingles he is a gentleman who understands the pain I go through because he has autism and I have anxiety and depression because of a broken heart and we both understand our fears and concerns
@@amandahunter9186 I'm glad (about the friendship) and sorry (about the pain) to hear. And what are Freddie's attributes and talents?
@@ElliotBrownJingles he can make me laugh and we have our love language and he know when I am in pain and when I need help

Shout out to neebs gaming podcast, here because of them
Life before the internet 🐜🏟
How did I get here
not to be confused with flea markets
Flea circuses make me so uncomfortable for some reason.
It's still the flea circus, it's all an illusion
Dr. Sattler - Jurassic Park 1993
"You know the first attraction I ever built when I came down south from Scotland? It was a flea circus, Petticoat Lane. Really quite wonderful. We had a wee trapeze, and a merry-go... carousel and a seesaw. They all moved, motorized of course, but people would say they could see the fleas. "Oh, I see the fleas, mummy! Can't you see the fleas?" Clown fleas and high wire fleas and fleas on parade... But with this place, I wanted to show them something that wasn't an illusion. Something that was real, something that they could see and touch. An aim not devoid of merit."
Here from Bone Tomahawk
Pepi lol yeah same as!
Me too. Holy shit, he was right! Either that, or this was released on April Fools and we’re all just as gullible as he is.
Real fleas
the orson welles movie mr akadin shows the coolest flea circus. hard noir to sit there. maybe it's on here.
Poor fleas
Who is here because of the flea circus level is Psychonauts 2?
Who else here after watching Jurassic Park?
Good thing none of them is Francoeur.
Why isn't this classed as cruelty? Surely even David himself would be against this. That flea was clearly struggling there.
Lmao
Fleas don't deserve rights
@@Mothlord03 you do know that fleas dont make us itchy because they _want_ to be assholes, right :D dudes r just doing what they gotta do to stay alive
@@mullisaukko423 don't care, I don't like them at all
@Constipated Cat I agree. Clearly it's not the popular position to take.
Poor lil flea, all he wanted was to love his best like but NO we HAD to attach the poor hoppy boi to a carriage
“poor hoppy boi”
story break
I hate fleas but this seems inhumane.
I burn them with a lighter. They deserve it. Wait until you get some of them in your home.
Yup! Fleas suck, but that's just because they need to do it in order to live, not because they _want_ to be assholes.
But yeah I find this cruel too, they are living creatures after all
My cat has alittle bit of fleas
I warned them not to play God with those ants
*dogs have left the chat*
😅
I was expecting some bass freaks doing weird shit
No fleas were harmed in marking this video.
I kind of want to see Steve Irwin narrate this instead of David Attenborough
He can't because he's dead
This is torture lol
They never have cigarettes or cellphones though
And that was how the pyramids were made. 🤣
So they get chained to those contraptions and forced to pull them? That seems awfully cruel to the fleas...
*...WHICH IS GOOD.*
Wow lol
ㅋ
Great... I can hear PETA now...
Who else came here because of Jurassic Park?
What lol
russy puppy live
douglas had chosen two wives

i bet one person disliked the video cause they thought it was "animal abuse" lmao
I mean, technically it is
Such animal cruelty :-@

Decion I'm not sure if animals like fleas are into the sadistic masochistic relationship in the bdsm world
yor a pest im a pest
But how do u train them? And how do they stay alive since they are not sucking any animals blood lol
1921: "What a delightful way to pass time and be entertained by fleas!"
2021: "Stop this! This is animal cruelty! This is "shocking"! I'll report you to [insert animal rights organization] and cancel you from coming to my campus!"
Damn, I was wondering if anyone was going to bellyache and whine about "cancel culture" lol. Way to shoehorn that one in.
All living creatures can store and release energy lol
Attenborough you should know better than to imprison fleas. Torture them and humiliate them for human pleasure. It's degrading for fleas. Itl be dancing bears on the high street next.
Slavery. Absolute Insect slavery !
This is cruel.
Christ. Nobody loves fleas, but this all comes across as more than a little barbaric.
There is something wrong with him.
