Leather refurbishing on Crockett & Jones

  • These Crockett & Jones Norwich, are heavily worn, and quite poorly cared for. This has damaged the leather. Deep scuff marks, cuts, and cracks in the leather. Customer didn't want to spend too much money on the refurbish, so we negotiated a price in advance. This gave me about 60 min to work on them. I thought it would be enough, and I am quite happy with the end result. Customer was very satisfied. This is not really an instructional video, for I am using some extreme techniques, and methods which can damage the leather if you don't know what you are doing. You should really be a cobbler to use these techniques. I also don't show every step of the work. That is why I don't want to write which chemicals I use.

Great work and in such a short amount of time. Always amazes me how you can buy such a high end product and not give them any tlc. All my quality shoes have shoe trees and makes a difference. A regular clean and nourishing cream too doesn't go a miss.

Totally agree. Why would you buy a 500 pound plus pair of shoes and let them get in that state, can only be pure laziness.

I can only wish my previous boot sole repair was done with care & attention like this (ironically in UK, with CJ boots).
The word “cobbler” isn’t sufficient for this. “Handcrafts man” is more apt.
    Great work!

If you really spent only an hour on this job (drying time excluded ofc) you are a magician!

Well I don't know for sure, but I probably used between 60-90 min. Hard to measure time with so many drying stops. Also the video making dusturbs the time a bit. I worked it util I was pleased enough with it. You have to stop sometime. Customers don't want to pay too much.

Very good job for the amount of time you negotiated! Can you please tell what leather binder are you using to repair the cracks and scuffs?

Fabulous work! A quick question: what is this leather binder that you are using? Where can one purchase it? Thanks!

Exceptional work, especially under time pressure & budget.
May I ask a question: what would a higher budget buy for a refurbishment? I don't see how you can do better than this, unless you replace the leather.
    Thanks!

You would see the flaws up close, but I try to make it look perfect on photos. More time wouldn't make a big digference. Thats why we thought 1 hour would be sufficient. But with unlimited time I could make it a little better.

Always get a good leather conditioner first. Then cream, then wax.
Leather is like skin; we need lotion on our skin to keep it healthy.
If you want just one product, choose leather cream. It conditions & polishes at the same time!
