I like that you are very conscientious about every aspect of your planning. Not sure if I have seen other hikers' videos so detailed right down to the calories.
I will be following your hike! My favorite Biscuit and Gravy is actually Mountain house....and Mountain house has my most favorite meals so far. I was least satisfied with the Peak refuel. I have also removed the freeze dried/dehydrated meals from original packaging and packed them in the freezer ziplocks to save on weight. I will be cheering for you on your thru-hike!
Please don't listen to anyone who might say un nice things in the comments, they aren't doing what you are! You're amazing, what you're doing is amazing! My wife and I are loving all of your videos
Hi there.....I am a woman also in her 50's who has battled weight issues through the years. I am also a AT Section Hiker, Long Trail and Foothills Trail Hiker. I am getting my knee replaced 2/20, so I will be living thru you on trail this year. I tend to not offer advice unless asked, but after watching your meal planning video I felt the need to share this you. Your pack seems a little heavy, so go EASY as far as mileage is concerned the first few weeks. My husband and I always make the mistake of too much food each and every time we start a new hike. I think you might be in the same ballpark. I wish you all the best and can't wait to follow you.
Thanks for the vid I'm so excited for you. You can have your family bring you new shoes. You could go ahead and buy the shoes that you like so when it's time you don't have to worry about finding the right size or anything that will already be taken care if
I really enjoy your videos!!! You are well prepared and are going to ROCK it!! I love the shower cap idea and want to get that teardrop thermometer. I'll watch your whole hike! I'm excited for you. ~Garmin. AT Class of '23. ❤
Glad you are considering your healthy options and vitamins. So important when hiking. So glad you are having family meet up with you. That will help with keeping on the trail.
Man it'd be cool if you could door dash from a grocery store to one of the gaps. I only made it to Franklin in 2013. I would wonder about resupplying in the towns further along where the hikers weren't as numerous.
I soooo agree with you…try food BEFORE you go out. I too have hated what I brought. Ramen bomb with spam based on a relative’s suggestion. Threw up in my mouth. Others, dehydrated sweet potatoes, sounds good, but with cloves? Ruined it for me. I am practicing now as I will doing my own much shorter, but long for me, thru-hike of California’s Join Muir this summer. I’ll be following. :)
I kinda threw up a little too on the mention of Ramen and Spam lol. But the sweet potatoes with a sprinkle of clove is actually pretty good. Also add a little cinnamon and pure maple syrup. Very jealous of your John Muir hike. It's on my bucket list! 🥾♥️🪣
Just getting caught up on your videos!! Great planning foods, delicious, yet pretty healthy choices!! Watching this now, you're already on trail. A resupply idea, protein oatmeal. Quaker Oats instant is a tasty one. Now, onto your Day 1 video. Sending you HAPPY TRAILS 👣 🎉🥾 Thank you for taking us along.
Hi Laura, Excellent plan of bagging for the days of the week. I do that when I go on weekend trips up in the Whites. I absolutely LOVE the "How-To" List at the end!!! Do your best and enjoy the journey for sure!!!
Great video! Love how you break it down. If you need to save some room, you can break down the store bought meals and put them in the freezer bags. Cant wait to watch you on the trail.
I sit and grin and feel good 😁 when I look at your account, you are so determined and well-read and know yourself, love this! You will need all the energy you can muster both physically and mentally. All fingers and toes crossed that this goes well. In addition, you inspire me to start planning my own longer hikes here where I live in Sweden.🇸🇪🤗
Great job with the food!! You are planning and thinking everything out! 👏👏👏👏👏. Can’t wait for the day we all leave with you on your journey! 🙏. Hike on! 🥾🏔️⛺️🧗♀️🙏
Great job! I'm thankful that you've thought this out so well. I'm also thankful that your snacks will be close at hand. When I tried backpacking I found that during the day between meals, I was nibbling a lot. I didn't eat a lot, not even a whole pack of those beans at a time but was picking at them on and off all day. Nice variety so you don't get sick of one thing too. I'm excited for you. Happy Trails!
Not sure if you’ll like it but my daughter and I have really enjoyed Peak Refuel’s Chicken Pesto Pasta. Either way, backpacking meals have come a long ways.
No worries. There are so many options between brands, flavors etc. I’ve only had a small fraction of what’s out there. When I started backpacking in the mid 90’s. Options were incredibly limited. I only recall Mountain House and the military MRE’s. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods and we’re all cheering you on.
Another great video! I absolutely love that each video I get something from it. thanks for the supplement reminder, I forgot about that. I'm on point for just about everything else. Oh boy I can't wait for your start!!! HAPPY TRAILSSSSSSS 🧡🧡🧡
Never heard of the mussle mac and cheese and will have to try it! I love the Peak Refuel pesto chicken and have a curry chicken sitting here that I need to try. I've also replaced the Quaker Oats with Kodiak oatmeal because it has more protein.
You got this Laura !! My husband and I will be following your Journey. He is a Maine Guide and hopefully we can meet up with you when you get up North. Best wishes and listen to your body. Remember It's not a race ... It's your own personal journey . With your personality you are going to have a lot of support 👍Happy hiking and stay safe.
Have you considered taking your measurements before you leave? It would be interesting to compare Before and After - and off the top of my head, I don’t think anybody else (hiker) has ever done that on RUclips?? I know…it’s gettin’ kinda personal…but maybe you could just give us a total number of inches lost after your successful adventure! No pressure, just a thought from a fellow fluffy gal. I can’t wait to follow your journey!
Good luck trying to find what you want along the trail. The rice takes a lot of fuel to cook. Also, you use more fuel cooking more than once a day, also use more water. Be ready for a plan B or C when it comes to food
Peak meals were my favorite. I failed miserably trying to eat out of a ziplock stuff into my cup. I have no idea how, but I seemed to make more of a mess so I just used the cup and took a couple of extra minutes with a small pad to clean it up. Looks like you are well prepared food wise. Best of luck.
You need cheap resupply you can get at grocery stores. My favorite breakfast is milk & cereal, buy a box of bran flakes and divide in into 7 meals, add 1/4 cup NIDO (powdered milk) + 2 packets Stevia, add water. shake, instant milk & cereal, often eat milk & cereal for first & second breakfast. Always carry a pound of Walnuts, calorie dense @ 3000/lb, shelf stable, no cook, 65% fat + 14% protein + 14% carbs - 7% soluble fiber, full of vitamins & minerals, a person (or squirrel) can survive on Walnuts. Imitation Biscuits & Gravy = 1 packet Ramen broken up in small pieces (don't use seasoning packet) + 1/2 packet Pioneer Country Gravy + Bacon Pieces + 1 cup boiling Water. Mash Potatoes w/meat = 1/3 cup instant mash potatoes + 1 cup boiling water + 1 packet pulled Pork. Grits & Bacon = 3 packets instant grits + 1 (2.5oz) packet Bacon pieces + 12oz boiling water.
Triple crowner here (AT'21,CDT'22,PCT'23), couple of recommendations if I may-- Ramen is way cheaper and way more calorically dense (more calories by weight) than Mtn House, etc. Mtn House is nice to spoil yourself for hard sections, etc, but Ramen is amazing (as is couscous). Consider swapping out the SwissMiss and using instead Carnation Breakfast Essentials-- Breakfast Essentials will get you some nutritional supplements in addition to the sweet/chocolatey flavors you seek. Love the thought you're putting into this all. Don't try and lose weight, it will happen no matter what. On the AT I met a dude in central VA who had lost some 150lb and was thrilled about it, but was eating just around 1,200cal/day. I have no doubt that his inevitable "bonk" required hospitalization. Eat as much as you can and marvel at the speed with which you lose weight. The name of the game is fuel-- food is fuel. I'm encouraged by your consideration of micronutrients and electrolytes. I live in Northern VA and would love to hook up some trail magic, etc when you get here. Consider checking out any of my load-out videos, etc if you're interested in seeing what I did. Looking forward to your adventure, and I'm eager to track your progress!!
Thank you for these excellent tips! I'm sure I will be switching to cheaper foods as I go. I do like soy Ramen with peanut butter added in. As for weight loss, I'm certain it will happen with how many calories I burn. I'm more concerned with staying fueled. Thanks for following my journey and sharing your recommendations. Trail magic will be graciously welcomed! Congratulations on your Triple Crown! 🥾♥️👑
I always take my Peak or mountain house meals and put them in a freezer ziplock and either cut off the instructions and stick it in the bag or do like you did and write the instructions on the baggie. It saves so much room in my food bag. I can’t wait to watch your journey!
I love the beef stroganoff! I add extra dehydrated beef to mine for even more protein. I never had any luck with the Good to Go meals, not very delicious. Great idea with the food for the day bags!
Wow I’m gonna check out the 8 greens. Never heard of it. Another hiker, I Suck @ Hiking found another I want to try called Waterboy. Electro lights & vitamins in it. Your look ready to go!
Great choices as I will be trying some of these meals you presented. Thanks for the information. I will be watching and rooting you on during your journey!!
You are very organized and I've watched enough videos to know you better be prepared. I'll be waiting to see your videos and wish you all the luck for your adventure. The dehydrated food looks expensive but I don't know what the alternative would be. I hope when you're in town you eat fruit and veggies. It drives me crazy when I watch hikers eat only greasy junk food. I don't remember hearing when you are starting on you previous videos. I know you'll kick it. Be safe.
love your videos! have you considert a bounce box for vitamins and other small stuff so you can stock up your supply when needed? also, if you get a chance try making your own dehydrate meals ... imo nothing beats a home made spagetti bolognese at the end of the day and it's super easy too .... cook whatever you like (really anything goes, just skip the oil if you plan on storing it a long time as it might go off), throw in a dehydrator and done
Your calorie requirements will change as you go too. Everyone loses weight on their trek, and everyone usually increases their mileage week after week. Which means your calorie requirements may go up, as you head north. Which is fine! You seem to be well prepared for what you're going to need. I was literally thinking about Epic bars just today! I loooove the bison bar, and the bacon & pork bar (seems a bit redundant 😉) I can't find them anymore here in Canada, but when I go to the US I stock up. They have a variety pack which is good. Eating the same ol' same ol' all the time gets boring. And protein is soooo important when you're using your muscles all day every day.
I'm getting excited about your trip now that it's getting close. Love your list at the end. They say no good plan survives the first encounter 😂 but you sound very organised, and also flexible. I hate mushrooms, so that risotto was never going to excite me 😊
Good video. 👍🏼 When were you planning on leaving? How often do you think you will post a video while on trail? I guess you'll figure some of that out as you go. I look forward to watching your videos. I'm wishing you the best.
Love eating honey stinger waffles with peanut butter! Where did you find the Skippy peanut butter packets? I have not been able to find them in stores since before Covid.
When the weather warms up and chocolate is likely to melt might want to consider a Payday candy bar. They served me well from the NOC to Fontana last spring :) No chocolate but nuts and caramel and 7 grams protein :)
Nice planning! My max food carry is 4 days until resupply. All meals per day are zip lock baggies, with calories/weight listed. Your food list is very similar to what I have planned. Obviously, a lot of research. I've even thrown in condiments that will mix with MH dinners, ramen, peanut butter, coffee, tuna/chicken packs, cheese sticks or chomps. I'm thinking honey/peanut butter/chips ahoy cookies! Starting end of February. Happy Hiking
You go girl! I’m so proud of you, and excited to follow your journey!! You seem so very organized…I may need you to organize my life when you get back!!!😂😂😂
That's a very organized and detailed list of your supplies. Just curious where did you get the 8 Greens from? I'd like to try them. Good luck to you and enjoy your Hike. 🙏 😊 🚶 🏕
I would be happy to assist you in Georgia if you need someone, I’m about 15 miles from the southern terminus of the trail in Dawsonville. I can give references!😂 I’m very excited to follow along on your hike!
I'm no expert but I shoot for 3000 calories per day on trail and always have too much food leftover. I just can't get it all down. You might want to pare back your calories until your hiker hunger hits. Love the videos and wishing you all the best on trail!
I have been struggling with what to eat on the trail. When I get really wore out I can’t eat. Luckily I am not a through hiker so a few days of not eating right isnt the end of the works….i find myself just eating a few bites here and there. Ooo. Have you tried the mountain house breakfast one that is like a mix of eggs potatoes and whatever? It’s really good too. I always need to bring salt packets to add to the dry foods.
Don’t be surprised that you won’t be hungry for the first couple of days. You may actually have to force yourself to eat knowing that you’re burning calories.Eventually hiker hunger kicks in and you will establish a routine. On my PCT I didn’t really feel like eating for the first 10 days. Enjoy the planning and journey. The Colonel
Hey Colonel! I agree, even on shorter hikes I didn't feel like eating. I felt like crap though if I didn't get enough calories in, so I probably will be forcing down food the first week. Thanks for following my journey! 🥾♥️
Very well organized. I have been taking the 8-greens for at least 6 years and really like them. I get on QVC on auto delivery. Cheaper than Amazon but maybe not an option for you as you will be hiking for so many months. 😂. Happy trails. 🤘🏻🥾⛰️
That's a very comprehensive summary of your nutrition choices. Hopefully you find plenty of things you like when buying it out on trail. Have you a planned budget for food ?
I don't like messing with my coffee either. The saltiness definitely takes a while to get used to, but it's an excellent electrolyte supplement when you really need it.
I love to carry cream of wheat for emergency meals. In the dark on night my partner dumped hot chocolate in the water I was boiling for cow. I made cow in hot chocolate. It became one of my go to breakfast meals. Damned good too.
Good On Ya, Laura . . . . Ah Haaa, I eat my words from a food comment I made within an episode of your first week on trail. In fact, you taught me a few things about trail preparations. 🏔️ 👉🏼 🏋
switch the swiss miss for carnation instant breakfast for more protein and other minerals
I swear by carnation breakfast essentials 🙌
I like that you are very conscientious about every aspect of your planning. Not sure if I have seen other hikers' videos so detailed right down to the calories.
LOVE how you try everything out ahead of time!!!

You are one smart cookie!!
Saturday, February 03rd: Looks like good planning. Here's wishing you every success! Happy Trails!
Thank you! 🥾♥️
Oh I feel you! That’s one of my favorites too! Especially hot! Very filling and tasty.
Thanks for the vid I'm so excited for you. You can have your family bring you new shoes. You could go ahead and buy the shoes that you like so when it's time you don't have to worry about finding the right size or anything that will already be taken care if

Meal organization is a great way to avoid decision fatigue 😃 I'm so excited you're heading out soon!
Great job! We hope you enjoy the experience of hiking the AT!
Yayyyy! You’ve got it dialed in, Laura! I’m excited!!
I’m keeping you in my prayers for a fun, safe, successful journey! 🙏🏼❤️🙌🏼
Thank you so much!! 🥾♥️🙏

Thank you for your encouragement! Sending positive vibes back to you in Sweden. Birthplace of my ancestors! 🥾♥️🇸🇪
Thank you for the details of what to bring and restock, I am excited for you.
Love your food plan. Hope you stay strong on the trail. Can’t wait to see you out there. Prayers for an excellent journey!
Thank you so much! 🥾♥️
So excited for you and thank you for sharing the start of your journey with us!
Great job with the food!! You are planning and thinking everything out! 👏👏👏👏👏. Can’t wait for the day we all leave with you on your journey! 🙏. Hike on! 🥾🏔️⛺️🧗♀️🙏
You have some good meals planned. Excited to watch your journey
Thank you for following along! 🥾♥️
I am so happy that I found you so I can watch your journey, cheer you on, and pray for you! Happy Trails!

Not sure if you’ll like it but my daughter and I have really enjoyed Peak Refuel’s Chicken Pesto Pasta. Either way, backpacking meals have come a long ways.
Haven't tried it, but I will! Thanks for the recommendation. 🥾♥️
First video I’ve seen of yours. Love your energy.
Love the gravy & biscuits. If you break up the biscuits they rehydrate better. Oh so yummy!
Anxious for your hike!!
Thanks for the tip!
Another great video! I absolutely love that each video I get something from it. thanks for the supplement reminder, I forgot about that. I'm on point for just about everything else. Oh boy I can't wait for your start!!! HAPPY TRAILSSSSSSS 🧡🧡🧡
even got my channel ready for my adventures lol
Thank you! 🥾♥️
Never heard of the mussle mac and cheese and will have to try it! I love the Peak Refuel pesto chicken and have a curry chicken sitting here that I need to try. I've also replaced the Quaker Oats with Kodiak oatmeal because it has more protein.
I put a pin hole in the packs and squeeze the air of the the package, they tasted just fine.
Looks like a good plan! Also love the LMNT mixes but I love salt.
Thank you so much! I'm taking it one step at a time. Going to stay safe and let the trail teach me. 🥾♥️
Great idea about organizing the food in separate bags per day to keep track or calories and stuff. Thanks for sharing. Sending love ❤
Love it! I can't wait to follow your journey!
Good plan to just resupply on trail. You get out there and get hungry for unexpected cravings!
You are so inspiring! I hope to run into you on the trail at some point!
Hey thanks you got this girl keep on humping Im loving the videos PS you rock!

Good plan and good food to eat. Ready to go !
Love the cap... The very best of luck for your journey. You are well prepared
Thank you! 🥾♥️
Have you tried PackIt Gourmet? It’s on the expensive side, but very good as a good treat meal on trail.
Haven't tried it yet, but I will check it out!

When the weather warms up and chocolate is likely to melt might want to consider a Payday candy bar. They served me well from the NOC to Fontana last spring :) No chocolate but nuts and caramel and 7 grams protein :)
I do like Payday bars! 😋
Try Pinnacle backpacking food if you can. I think they’re the best on the market. Thanks for sharing your journey!
I'll check it out!
Hope to cross paths with you! Happy Trails. 🥾♥️
Great descriptive video
You go girl! I’m so proud of you, and excited to follow your journey!! You seem so very organized…I may need you to organize my life when you get back!!!😂😂😂
I'm organized on trail only lol

hey girl! Thanks for the cheers!@@monicawacha8210
Awesome explanation!!!!!

Thank you! 🥾♥️
Bless you, trail angel Nancy 😇
I'm no expert but I shoot for 3000 calories per day on trail and always have too much food leftover. I just can't get it all down. You might want to pare back your calories until your hiker hunger hits. Love the videos and wishing you all the best on trail!
Thank you! 🥾♥️
Yes, the breakfast skillet is what it's called I believe. It's good, and filling!
Thank you! The budget is a moving target right now. I think the first 30 days will determine a lot as I learn my needs.
I just connected to your channel
I'm gonna follow you. Good luck.
I must have eaten 1000 Snickers Bars when I thru-hike in 03.
see you there ask for passin thru
2 recommended servings = 1 thru-hiker serving .... I have heard that from many thru-hikers
I tried putting LMNT in my coffee. 🤮 Don’t like my coffee adulterated. Looks like a good food selection. I may try the beet capsules.
I do love cream of wheat!
In whose world are those 2 servings 🤷🤣 I'd probably have to eat two packs of that beef stroganoff..😂
😂
Outstanding update!!! Can’t wait to follow you!! How do I get a “Peaks4Pounds” hat?
🥾🥾😎🏕️
Thank you! I guess I need to look into merc? lol.
Good On Ya, Laura . . . . Ah Haaa,
I eat my words from a food comment I made within an episode of your first week on trail. In fact, you taught me a few things about trail preparations.
