I had a mobile in 1985, cost a mint and calls cost £1 per minute even if the recipient didn't answer. It's main selling point was the ability to store 10 numbers. Whooooo!
The 2008 BlackBerry takes me back to my teenage years. I bought one in 2010 so it was cheaper. I still think they look cool now in 2021. They don't look out of place like 1990 phones.
I think it’s interesting to see the actual year these phones came out cuz they didn’t see widespread use until a few years later. For example, my dad had the first flip phone (that came out in 1989) around 95 or 96 and then I had the 95 Nokia around 2000-ish.
Ahh yes, I remember the old Nokia's very well. In 1995, the same year I got my first desktop PC, the Nokia 2110 could survive a fall from any height. I was up on my roof drunk one night and dropped it off the very top of our 3 story right onto the driveway below. It still worked when I managed to get back down to find it.
I owned just about 10% of what was shown, going upto a 70 to people I've known who owned them... reflecting back on quite a lot of memories....all in all it was a roller coaster ride down memory lane.... thanks slot for this vid...
Born in 2003, I realise I am one of the last people who can actually remember life pre-smartphone era. When I see kids who are 5 or 6, I realise they'll never know what that life was like. I don't know whether that's good or bad but it's tragic definitely.
@Obed Ningshen I wish I could have lived your era as a teen. Still whatever good was left, us 2000s kids experienced it by early 2010s. After that, everything went downhill
I swear it was much better. You didn't see have the obsession to check a gadget 1000 freaking times per second, to see what others commented in your photo, who liked you and shit like that. I remember myself so happy without a phone, only real connection, playing with friends. And I am not a boomer guy, I am full technology
@@SpirosKiriakopoulos absolutely man. Nowadays, Everything, including people's behavior and attitude is so fake. Everyone wants to be "socially accepted" only because social media says so. I remember 10 years ago or so, I used to look over some magazines having phones and tablets and such; I so wished that Samsung Galaxy Note !! Back-then, I never imagined that years later I was gonna have a 10X better phone than that. Things have changed so much...
6:08 3D Touch was in fact introduced in 2015 on the iPhone 6s 3:53 it would have been nice to mention the LG Prada which was a huge success and was the first multitouch phone on the market launched in December 2006. I loved the video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
2017: Home buttons: Aight imma head out 2018: Thick bezels has left the chat 2019: Front cameras has merged with the display lmao 2030: Phones at the size of Smart TVs
@@chazzi795 flip phones go up and down and keep everything the same (keyboard and screen) while foldable phones can turn into tablets and they fold sideways
Nah not for atleast a couple years. The ones that are around now Huawei mate X and Samsung find use plastic screens so you have to tap them quite hard to register unlike gorilla glass you see in most phones these days that register with the slitest touch. When touch screens phones first come around and they had plastic screens that you had to tap quite hard to register it's like that on folding phones so so think how long it took them to make it better that's probably gunna be around the same time they can get folding phones to work well aswell cos you can't fold gorilla glass without it shattering 😂 so they will have to find a bendy material that can work with a touch screen without you having to punch the screen for it to register and that's when I reckon they will start becoming popular. I have only ever seen 1 galaxy fold since release and they said they wish they just got a normal phone as it was bulky and the foldable display wasn't great and the front screen is too small to use unless your making a quick call. It's also annoying to unfold everytime you send a text.
So my phone has the sides so that is most thin(smaller) side of everytime but the upside and downside is remembering the Samsung's old touchscreen phones. Yes i am using Samsung
1990 phones = Calling 2021 Phone = Calender, calculator, camera, music player, TV, potable game console, sound recording, calling, video call, surfing the internet, online shopping, tv remote, texting, torch light, maps, vertual assistant that can even turn your lights on
You left out the Palm Pre. The phone was launched in the summer of 2009 and was possibly the best smartphone of the year. It was the first smartphone to have wireless charging and had WebOS, which in my opinion was out of this world. Nothing could compete with it. It was a phone ahead of its time. And because of the OS, multi-tasking on the device was what made it so fluid. It featured a physical keyboard that was accessed with a simple screen slide and also gave you a mirror on the rear of the screen. Unfortunately though, the original Palm Pre was only available on Sprint and the second and third generations on Verizon, so it didn't have a broad range of customers; unless of course if you happen to be on those networks. It was all sold to HP in the summer of 2010 and due to poor sales, it marked the sad fate of both Palm and WebOS. Without a doubt, this phone was epic and I'm sad it didn't make it in this video.
I've seen them evolve over the years, from fairly large devices to the various designs, and now the smart phone. The land line was the most popular way to phone when I was a child, either from home, office or a call box. Now they're used for internet, social media, texts, apps, timetables, information, games, reminding, GPS, calculating, news, downloading music/films, uploading, storage, photographs, listening to music, watching clips/films, taking photos, recording clips and much more and oh yes phoning. People have become obsessed with them for good or bad.
for bad in my opinion. people are more antisocial. And I think a lot of stuff phones have now are completely unnecessary (including social media, youtube and movie apps) not that a smart phone isn't a good idea, I only have the important stuff on mine and it's very handy but most people in the world don't use them right
@@gggumball I agree totally. People seem so absorbed by their phones and feel anxious and lost without them, to such an extent they are more interested in their phone than what's gong on around them. This is an issue when the phone governs their lives as opposed to them governing their phone.
My gf had one when we started dating.. Shit phone haha "crackberry" now she has an Samsung s9 I have the huawei p20 before I had the Samsung s5. Don't know what to take after this one
I remember I bought my 5110 at school and sat in the middle chair flexing playing snake, everyone just swarmed in including my teacher. Those were the days.
That was a lot of work. Nicely done. The IBM Simon was a surprise. It was also interesting to see how much innovation came from other players in the market.
Funny thing is, I've had most of those phones in my life. My fav was Nokia 3330, now so big but with a good battery life. Now I'm an iPhone user and I think is pretty much good one. :) Nice video, Thanks.
My older brother was the first in our family to have a cell phone in 1997 .He worked for Sprint at the time . I didn't get my first phone until 2004 ( a Nokia )
The original iPhone was based on a display manufactured by LG. LG launched the first multitouch phone with the LG Prada in December 2006. But the video does not mention this phone unfortunately.
Raise your hand 🖐 if you owned 'Nokia 3310'. 😂😂 I still remember vividly the hype/transition from LED screens to Coloured ones. Now, you have 4k 8k capability displays for phones.
Does anyone else feel like technological growth has curbed over the last decade? It was an impressive run through the 90's and 00's, as we adapted to life with the internet and radically improved the quality and design of our earlier toys, but now it's like we've decelerated somehow.
@@fzafg this was supposed to be a troll for some people (though I think this isn't really considered a joke, tbh I kinda feel like I made a dumb comment) but yeah you are right.
It's amazing to see that we went from playing snake on small ass phone to playing games in 4k it's just surprises me to see that we have come this far and mobile phones are becoming better and better there won't even be a point in computers because there's phones that have the same capabilities

People have become obsessed with them for good or bad.
temo el dia en que la tecnologia sobrepase nuestra humanidad el mundo solo tendra una generacion de idiotas albert einstein
for bad in my opinion. people are more antisocial.
