- Here's some footage collected from the "restricted areas" at the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider when Brady gave his camera to someone more trustworthy! See our main CMS video from sister channel Sixty Symbols at: • Inside the Large Hadro...
yes... We also visited ATLAS... Videos soon on sixtysymbols
glad you liked it... plenty more coming soon on sixtysymbols... and as usual there will be extra goodies here on nottinghamscience for the diehards!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: it boggles my mind how it is even possible to design, construct and operate a machine of such compleity. Truly awesome.
The constant noise is from the huge fans housed within the CMS experiment itself which blow the protons to just under the speed of light.
By the way I love these kind of raw videos, it feels like I am exploring the place myself, for me this gives much more a thrill than a heavy edited version would ever give.
Color Me impressed. Very Impressed. This is a massive piece of machinery that yet requires precision beyond any conventional equipment, consume more power and cooling than a small city, generates more Data than can be reasonably be store in a timely fashion and give us insight on the tinniest aspect of matter.
To see it up close and personal must be humbling.
Thank you Brady. This is fascinating.
It's very loud in there, so the sounds of his footsteps are probably drowned out by the humming of the machines.
watching this while listening to classical music. Great combination
My god, this video *really* drives home the rediculous size of this device. No newspaper article about the LHC with size-comparison-figures drawn next to the device can ever beat this. Thank you for showing us. :)
I can only watch and admire the enormous accomplishment of mankinds' brightest people. The complexity is mind boggling.
This feels like a demo reel for a new graphics card architecture, showing off the latest and greatest lighting effects, reflections, and various other visual processing powers. hehe. I gotta say it looks real! :p
All this awesome equipment and physics, and here I am writing about how I find it impressive how the dude walked down the stairs at 4:40 ...
See, this is what happens when you have a reputation for professionalism and a huge signal-to-noise ratio: you get access to cool stuff like this.
So tell me, Brady: who was more nervous? Them about letting you in or them holding your camera? :)
Seriously, this uncut tour of the CMS experiment pegged my cool meter. Thank you for learning all this cool stuff and sharing it with us. And give the two professors with you my regards.
So happy you uploaded this video!
We've all been waiting for you, Gordon...
Awesome!
Amazing just how big this machine is.
I guess there are enough places where one bad connection, a leaking valve or a single loose screw makes the whole thing stop working. Good luck findig that!
Just imagine every single one of them had to placed there by someone first in designs then on site... goosebumps that humanity is able to do something like this!
good!
I liked the video as others have said it has a very half life feel to it as if you were seeing life through the eyes of gordon freeman at black mesa.
I do have a question @nottinghamscience Brady I know it is a novice filming but is all of the camera shake down to in experience and the user or do you normally have a stabilising rig on your camera.
Thank you for posting this. Despite the lack of a skilled videographer doing the filming, it was still quite interesting.
Around @10:42 you can hear some interference on the microphone of the camera. Is this caused by a cell phone? If so, won't these signals interfere with all the equipment in this room and thus create faulty measurements?
This would be the ideal setting for a shoot'em-up computer game.
I was hoping that with the right keyboard shortcut I could lay some proximity mines or blow away a few monsters with a gatling laser pulse gun...
It's probably just so noisy in there the camera's audio compressor is pushing down the feet level compared to the machine noise! :) but I actually prefer your more fun comment! ;)
I was expecting the sound of one of those teleporting half-life enemies and the two hands with the orange suit showing up with the half-life theme in the background :D
Brady you should walk around the entire ring with the camera!
I'd even bring popcorn
Are you able to hear a sound in that room when the protons collide?
It shows how good Brady is at handling a camera ;-)
Complete silence... yet I watched the whole video without skipping...!
will there also be videos at the other detectors?
As the camera passes by scientists having conversations and staring at readouts (2:00), and then the woman looks back, did anyone else imagine her saying, "They're waiting for you, Gordon, in the test chamber"?
The ultimate level design for Half-Life 3...
In my head the 'Mission Impossible' theme song is playing for some reason. lol
I love being able to see the guy's hands at times, very 'first person' perspective.
...Though it may be a problem of mine that I keep waiting for him to pull out a machine gun and start shooting aliens.
I can see how one can accidentally touch something in that area.
Yeah, it reminded me of Cloverfield at times.
Push the cart into the beam, Freeman.
Speed it up very sligthly (to make it seem as if he was running, but not as much to make viewers dizzy) and put some music from Half-Life on the background.
The bright colors everywhere remind me of Mirror's Edge...
GORDON FREEMAN, IS THAT REALLY YOU ?!
I was expecting him to whip out a sniper rifle and activate some kind of cloak/shield after climbing the ladders. I've been watching too many vid card benchmarks.
I would love to work here.
Astonishing
Poor chap in black jacket and grey pants is getting stalked! ^+^
"Yes. He will do. HE WILL DO."
Rather a jolly color scheme going on there.
This is awesome nerd porn! I think the guy did a pretty fine job with the camera; I wonder whether he had experience with videography already. He walked smoothly, got plenty of angles from different locations, held the shot still a number of times to provide cutaways, and highlighted people and activities of interest. Good stuff!
All you need is a crow bar in your hand, its like playing Half-Life when watching this.
Is this Half Life 2 Episode 3 gameplay?! The graphics seem so REAL!!!
I had a Kawasaki once too, wasn't that bloody big though
Amazing, I want to move in!
Thank you for the upload!
That is huge..... LUCKY GUYS!!!
This is amazing...
So now we know that detector is Kawasaki! Can't wait to see this technology in their bikes!
i like the twist at the end ;)
Is there a rational for all the structure colours? Green = safe etc?
It's like walking through Black Mesa East.
Sixty Symbols needs to do a collaboration with Michio Kaku. Fanboys would get their fill.
......I'm one of them.
Love this.
Humans are awesome!
this guys has VERY light feet
Why are there no Vortigaunts?
I was going to say, that video was missing the familiar crowbar :P
It's like playing half life!
you should have put narration on top
I wonder what kawasaki did in LHC?
wow - LOVED that!
This video gave me a Hadron
it reminds me of half life, wheres the guy from cern who looks like gordan freeman?!
I'd probably be more reluctant to trust them with my camera then they would be to let me go film it myself! :P
Cameraman was a bit too chatty for my taste.
i went on a school trip to atlas
Reminds me of Mirror's Edge. ^_^
Crowbars from Space, Yo!
I know there is already such a video, but still: Someone should put Half-Life 2 music to this footage. :)
LHC...macro machines hard at work, collecting data on quantum collisions.
The whole facility is a fractal...
Big stuff, many stairs. No place for a man with a wooden leg ;-)
ok great :) really looking forward to it
all i could think was, portal here, portal there. :)
LHC POV!
Not as smooth as Brady, but still pretty good coverage. :) Cool stuff!
where are you from?
Did you feel like you were giving him your baby?
If I was a rich, evil genious I'd buy that piece of real estate and quick!
02:53 She is white as a ghost.
Me too was waiting to see Barney ^^
And kill him with the crowbar.
First, he has to get a crowbar! x'D
yeh heesssss
Pardon me while I geek out....OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGTOOCOOLOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGTHISISAWESOMEOMGOMGOMGI LOVE BEING A GEEK OMGOMGOMGOMG!! Thanks for the awesome video. Your proxy camera man did a great job! We got to see even more bits of this historic machine. It was fun seeing the people working on it too.
Its gordon freeman! ;)
Haha, i was about to say that.
I can hear Russian speech.
