I've used T4 and T6 in my motor cycle without any problems. My bike was built prior to emissions being a thing so there is no O2 sensor or catalytic converter. I don't know if using that kind of oil in a bike with those systems would cause any problems with the sensors over time. Other than that, it was fine to use.
The Guzzi has gotten T-6 for the last 10 seasons. Very happy with my results. You have to drop the pan casting to change the filter on a Guzzi, so I get to see the belly of the beast on a yearly basis. My engine internals are the cleanest part of the bike!
Tried Rotella in a 2006 dr200se because it’s all I had at the time, it was not usable as somehow it made neutral disappear unless you turned the engine off. It’s like the clutch wouldn’t fully disengage the engine.
I put Rotella diesel oil in everything I own for the last 15 years motorcycles,cars,trucks and high performance engines. I use 0w40 full synthetic Rotella in my 19 5.0 truck right now.
I see a lot of guys running it in sport bikes, especially the stunt bike guys. They seems to have less issues by running it. One of them just put 60,000 on the original sport bike engine, running Shell Rotella. I think we need Ryan over at FortNine to redo his oil sample testing and include Rotella.
@@RidingintheOzarks the only potential problems would be with wet clutches.. not the oil but some high detergent factors or friction modifiers like zinc or copper could sinter into the steels making them slip.. definitely won't hurt the engine or cams even on 14k rpm engines
I use T4 10w40 Rotella. Its available locally, cheaper than motorcycle labeled oils and have had no issues with it. I've used it in rm250's yz250's, GS Suzuki's, Kawasaki Concours, Benelli tnt135, Vstrom 1000, Honda rebel 250, Suzuki Marauder, also use it in my lawnmower.
Where did you find the 10w40 Rotella? I went to Walmart and all that they had was the 15w40. I have a Dr650 like in the video and the owners manual calls for 10w40. Any other oil viscosity has to be API certified SJ or SL.
In Alabama where I live the logging business is huge, and every mom and pop store carries T4 oil. I purchased a 1999 Road Star with 10K on it in 2001, and sold the bike 8 years later it had 181K on the bike. I never put anything other than T4 in the bike, and it ran like a new bike. I will admit I use T6 now.
I live in Northern CA it’s pretty warm here, usually run 20w50 for my 1986 Toyota pickup. You think I could use Rotella T4/T6 in my truck? I heard it wears out the cat because of the zinc content.
I've used Rotella T6 in a few motorcycles. The only thing I noticed was the clutch feel changed from the engine being cold to warmed up. It could have been an aging clutch or it could be the synthetics not agreeing with the wet clutch. I don't really know but it was consistent with 3 bikes so I went back to standard motorcycle oil and the clutches felt fine afterwards. I've used T6 in trucks, cars, turbo engines, in general it works really well.
I use I use T4 15w40 Rotella in my 200cc dual sport. I use T6 05w40 Rotella in my 700cc street bike. No issues. The "W" is a weather indicator. 15w means at 15 degrees Fahrenheit the oil has a viscosity of 40. Something we all should be aware of, is that like cars, the tolerances inside the motorcycle engine are becoming tighter. So if the manufacturer calls for 10w30 then you might want to run a 30-viscosity oil, else the oil might be a little too thick at startup to flow properly, even on warm days.
i been using diesel motor oils (all brands) in my 2010 KX250F motorcycle for years. ! I also use straight SAE 40 and 50 motor oils cuz i live in the south west desert area 🌵 so i have no need for multi weight motor oil, and my bike runs fantastic! also shifting is very smoothly. motorcycle motor oils are a joke and a complete rip-off!
I haven’t heard of anyone having issues running Rotella in their wet clutch motorcycles. Might be better to use 5w-40 instead of 15w-40 though. I watched an engineering explained video talking about changing oil weight and it was interesting. It’d be cool to see the oil sent to an oil analysis lab to verify also. Nice video👍
All of the drainplugs on my Dyna already have the magnets. I think all Harleys come this way except the Sporty, they have a plastic drainplug attached to a hose. I was using Valvoline VR1 racing oil in my Sporty. I did a lot of research & after seeing guys oil test results (bob the oil guy) on HD motors decided to give it a try. Might try it again on my Dyna.
That compressor did fine with the DR650. I'd like to see it handle that Street Glide and I believe it will work just not as fast but hey no hurry right. Great video brother and I know it will help someone that was considering Diesel Motor Oil. 💪😎

I took diesel classes. Diesel oil is better, it's designed to not breakdown under high temps, pressure and shear forces. Just like race bikes and high rev engines. It'll probably last for several years in a bush pig.
Rotella is a top of the line engine oil. I remember as a young apprentice hearing a seasoned journeyman mechanic always talking about how good shell Rotella diesel engine oil was and how he recommended it to people having issues with their engines. If it has the JASO MA rating then it’s good for wet clutches. You can also get a magnetic washer for your oil filter as well from pro cycle.
Used delo 400, mobil delvac, in my MT 01, 1700cc works fine for many years now, ci4 plus /SL is universal diesel oil, 15w 40 is not friction🎉 modified oil, SL covers SG used api for bikes,

I drove an 18 wheeler for 40 years as an owner operator. The only thing that diesel oil lacks is the same detergent package that oil meant for gasoline engines have.
man, i had a drz400 aweful highway machine, sold it 3 years ago... young fella got a bike so i thought i'd get back into the game but still really like to get on the woods roads (like it more than pave for sure) and got a KLR650... man i'm not sure I wouldn't have liked a DR650 more.... klr is a big bike ... rides great, eats bumps, and I know theyre stone dead reliable... but i like that dr650 too!
I know this comment is really late, but I ran nothing but Rotella T-6 5w-40 in my 2009 Zx-14 for 66,000 miles. Never had a problem. I used it in an FJR and a Goldwing before that. It meets the required specs... Ride on.
It’s better than cheap conventional motorcycle oil but I still run amsoil , Motul , liquimoly and Torco in my motorcycles and quads Run the best of the specified ratings from the manufacturer
That oil says jaso dh-2! Not ma-2! That said I use this oil in any gas engine without a catalytic converter. The liquid zinc will not make the clutch slip and the jaso spec is fairly new, what did we use in the 70’s and 80’s?
I don't see why a good 15-40 diesel oil shouldn't work in my Harley twin cam? Diesel engines are very very expensive to repair and run for miles and miles with no problem. No way the Harley puts more stress on that oil.
I did the math. LiquiMoly 15W50 motorcycle oil (4 liter jug) costs me $15 per annual oil change and the Rotella T6 (purchasing three 1 gallon jugs) costs me $8. At the very least, my G310GS is still under factory warranty, I do all of my own maintenance, and I don't want BMW voiding the warranty because I saved $7 by using diesel truck oil for the annual oil change. No hate for anyone running Rotella. Seven bucks is seven bucks.
@@RidingintheOzarks - I have a friend who buys nearly new older bikes for half price or less. He has over 30 of them! All licensed, insured, and ready to ride. It's madness. I wanted to buy my bike used to save money but I bought a new 2019 in late October 2020, just before the 2021 models were due to arrive. It's an inexpensive bike to start with and BMW discounted it $1000 and the dealer knocked off another $400. I bought it for $4920 out the door, with a full three year factory warranty. That was cheaper than the used versions with 3500 miles and maybe a year left on the warranty, with someone else's gooch juice on the seat. Having a small displacement, I ride it hard. Typical rides are my 235 pounds plus some luggage, 200-350 miles, with the throttle pinned for most of the straight sections and steep hills here in Kentucky. Nothing but a little routine maintenance so far, and a very delightful bike to ride. I've always liked small thumpers, but now I'm getting too old to ride big heavy bikes.
You probably already bought the seat concept seat but if you buy it directly from seat concepts you can use your original seat and save yourself about a hundred bucks
A wet clutch motorcycle engine should never have a molly oil in it. Rotella t4 15w40 dyno oil has no molly in it. The synthetic blend does, t5. FYI. Molly kills the wet clutch.
This is definitely a testament to the engineering of suzuki, Long live the Bush pig. However I'd argue that this is far from ideal. Oil is oil, I'm sure the bike would run just fine. But this is a perfect example of "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should!" I'm guessing this is far from ideal, I'll just stick to he manufacturers recommendation. I want my DR650 to outlast me.
The oil is rated for motorcycles too. You do you, I respect that. Just remember brands promote what serves them financially not what serves you financially.
I’ll be honest, that makes a lot of sense. It’s in their interest to sell you premium oil. How many miles have you put on your Dr since you started using Rotella. I just got one 2023 version. I’m just breaking in the engine and if this stuff works I’m seriously tempted I’m not gonna lie haha

Dude , all we ran in the 70s and 80s was diesel oil . Nobody ran motorcycle specific oil . Most of us ran whatever 15w40 or 30 or 40 weight we could find . The oil companies have everyone in a frenzy over oil with their advertising
If you google you will see people running it in Sport bikes too. It meets the requirements for Motorcycle oil people just over look it cause it says Diesel on the front.

I just wanted to share that I have used regular conventional and also synthetic oil in a wide range of motorcycles, for tens of thousands of miles, over the last 20 years and have never blown one up or burnt out a clutch. So..... yeah. That's my experience.
Seems like thebhate from rotella comes from.people who blow up their bikes and blame the oil. What about all the bikes that have blown up with every other kind of oil?
I can't say with absolute certainty but if they recommend JASO certified oil in the manual then I would not worry about running Rotella cause it meets those specs.
the level of detergents in dmo is overkill for gas engines, some would say thats not an issue..... but detergents directly counter act the zddp and other anti wear additives Total seal piston ring channel, and the motor oil geek have some realy eye opening stuff if anyone cares to totaly over think stuff like engine oil. ha then there is long haul paul that runs whatever flavor of yamaha bike with yamaha oil for 100000++ miles with way to long oil drain intervals.
Ok, so oil is $30 more. An engine is over 1,000. big bikes around 3,000. common sense says to use the best oil possible, designed specifically for bikes. you have high rpm engines, grinding gears, clutches, spragg clutches, roller bearings, high heat, DO you not think that oil engineers consider all of that? it's foolish to try to save 20 or 30 on a 1 to $$4,000 engine.

A diesel is not a high performance mc engine. however both take serious pressures. I use maxima racing oil in my Yamaha Venture Royale and the difference was so so much better. Night and day. for 30 more, I'm using the best. cheap insurance, no?

@@RidingintheOzarks My son has a Suzuki DRZ and uses it, no problems from what he tells me. He even recommended it to me. A week later, I talked to a Yenture / V Max junkie and former racer. Now owns a store, i mentioned this. He is aware of the Rotella and a good product. But bad idea. He started naming off the additives for this and that, zinc, and sheer, and high rpm and realized that oil had a lot to accomplish. I had mentioned that I used Pennzoil Euro Platimum plus synthetic from my VW W8 series. Really bad idea. Completely different application. Then i mentioned I had a rear end whine from 50-60 mph and was looking for a new set of bearings. He said the rear end is good, it is the straight cut gears in the tranny and the Pennzoil is not working. So I bought his Maxima Racing 10W-40. Yes, it is double in price. And it is mineral as well. Going against everything I thought I knew. Well, after changing the filter and adding the new oil, and taking it out for a ride - incredible change. The engine valve train noise almost vanished. The engine is much quieter. MUCH quieter. The rear end whine disappeared - yup, it was the tranny. The power was right there. Idling was better and smoother. INdeed the entire engine seemed smoother. I was stunned! Gord was right. For me, that was the best extra $25 I ever spent. Cheap insurance. And that bike is not made anymore - 1990 and is a show bike, fully restored. That is my experience. After spending $1,500 and 2 months on a complete restore and repaint, $25 is chump change and worth the price.

I'm happy to show the plugs when I change the oil, I am not tearing the engine down just to prove something to you though. AND I talked to two different people I know that raced local not National level and a lot of them do because they change the oil so often (not factory service intervals) but hey if you don't believe me you could always ask google "Do Motorcycle racing teams use Rotella" and then spend 10 minutes reading the top articles. Just went on first ride with T4 15w40 in my '15 KTM250xc. So far it seems to be same performance as the Motorex I usually run.
I ran diesel oil in my Victory and Harleys with no problems. I believe that even HD stated that diesel oil was ok to use in a pinch.

Many pro's, including supercross racing teams use rotella t4. It is perfectly find for motorcycles. I use it in my KLR

the book that came with my 2013 1200 sportster says you can use diesel in a pinch but not car oil

I've done it, but only because I figured the "wrong" oil is better than running without oil. Stuck out in the boonies.

@@RidingintheOzarks - I have a friend who buys nearly new older bikes for half price or less. He has over 30 of them! All licensed, insured, and ready to ride. It's madness.
I wanted to buy my bike used to save money but I bought a new 2019 in late October 2020, just before the 2021 models were due to arrive. It's an inexpensive bike to start with and BMW discounted it $1000 and the dealer knocked off another $400. I bought it for $4920 out the door, with a full three year factory warranty. That was cheaper than the used versions with 3500 miles and maybe a year left on the warranty, with someone else's gooch juice on the seat. Having a small displacement, I ride it hard. Typical rides are my 235 pounds plus some luggage, 200-350 miles, with the throttle pinned for most of the straight sections and steep hills here in Kentucky. Nothing but a little routine maintenance so far, and a very delightful bike to ride. I've always liked small thumpers, but now I'm getting too old to ride big heavy bikes.
I have run diesel oil in my 2001 vmax and 1996 harley dyna evo since I bought them new. Change every 3k. The best oil is clean oil.
I don't think you're nuts or crazy. its not diesel oil its oil marketed for diesel that meets SN and MA MA2 specs. Its great oil

It's amazing the amount of BS when it comes to motor oil. Rotella or Delvac is the only thing I've used for at least the last 15 years.

Does Rotella work? Sure.
Are there better options? Definitely.
A wet clutch motorcycle engine should never have a molly oil in it. Rotella t4 15w40 dyno oil has no molly in it. The synthetic blend does, t5.
FYI.
Molly kills the wet clutch.
What about the T6 synthetic?
T4 and T6 are both JASO MA approved, so they I doubt it. T5 isn’t

This is definitely a testament to the engineering of suzuki, Long live the Bush pig. However I'd argue that this is far from ideal. Oil is oil, I'm sure the bike would run just fine. But this is a perfect example of "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should!" I'm guessing this is far from ideal, I'll just stick to he manufacturers recommendation. I want my DR650 to outlast me.
The oil is rated for motorcycles too. You do you, I respect that. Just remember brands promote what serves them financially not what serves you financially.
I’ll be honest, that makes a lot of sense. It’s in their interest to sell you premium oil. How many miles have you put on your Dr since you started using Rotella. I just got one 2023 version. I’m just breaking in the engine and if this stuff works I’m seriously tempted I’m not gonna lie haha
@@felipetejeda7545 I am not going to lie I sold the Dr last week and probably only put s few thousand miles on it, I ride Harley’s most of the time that’s why I sold it to a buddy. Don’t just take my word for it, there is a lot of racers and other riders saying the same thing.
I started using rotella t6 5w40 in my husqvarna 15 W40 is good to
I ran t5 10w30 in my goldwing.I tried t6 5w40 but my bike shifted better with the t5.
I use T6 on my Indian. Works great. JASO

I think 10w-30 might have a btr flow rate, same addictives
Dude , all we ran in the 70s and 80s was diesel oil . Nobody ran motorcycle specific oil . Most of us ran whatever 15w40 or 30 or 40 weight we could find . The oil companies have everyone in a frenzy over oil with their advertising

Oil should be fine but i wouldn't use it in a 2 stroke or sport bike because of high rpms just incase the oil foams up
If you google you will see people running it in Sport bikes too. It meets the requirements for Motorcycle oil people just over look it cause it says Diesel on the front.

I just wanted to share that I have used regular conventional and also synthetic oil in a wide range of motorcycles, for tens of thousands of miles, over the last 20 years and have never blown one up or burnt out a clutch. So..... yeah. That's my experience.
Seems like thebhate from rotella comes from.people who blow up their bikes and blame the oil. What about all the bikes that have blown up with every other kind of oil?
Is rotella good for Honda ct125cc ?
I can't say with absolute certainty but if they recommend JASO certified oil in the manual then I would not worry about running Rotella cause it meets those specs.

the level of detergents in dmo is overkill for gas engines, some would say thats not an issue..... but detergents directly counter act the zddp and other anti wear additives Total seal piston ring channel, and the motor oil geek have some realy eye opening stuff if anyone cares to totaly over think stuff like engine oil.
ha then there is long haul paul that runs whatever flavor of yamaha bike with yamaha oil for 100000++ miles with way to long oil drain intervals.

Ok, so oil is $30 more. An engine is over 1,000. big bikes around 3,000. common sense says to use the best oil possible, designed specifically for bikes. you have high rpm engines, grinding gears, clutches, spragg clutches, roller bearings, high heat, DO you not think that oil engineers consider all of that?
it's foolish to try to save 20 or 30 on a 1 to $$4,000 engine.
And how expensive do you think diesel engines are? As I pointed out it’s rated for motorcycles. Use what you want …
@RidingintheOzarks I'm not arguing the rating, that is good. I'm simply saying that engineers know these engines better than anyone on the planet. A diesel is not a high performance mc engine. however both take serious pressures. I use maxima racing oil in my Yamaha Venture Royale and the difference was so so much better. Night and day. for 30 more, I'm using the best. cheap insurance, no?

@@RidingintheOzarks My son has a Suzuki DRZ and uses it, no problems from what he tells me. He even recommended it to me. A week later, I talked to a Yenture / V Max junkie and former racer. Now owns a store, i mentioned this. He is aware of the Rotella and a good product. But bad idea. He started naming off the additives for this and that, zinc, and sheer, and high rpm and realized that oil had a lot to accomplish. I had mentioned that I used Pennzoil Euro Platimum plus synthetic from my VW W8 series. Really bad idea. Completely different application. Then i mentioned I had a rear end whine from 50-60 mph and was looking for a new set of bearings.
He said the rear end is good, it is the straight cut gears in the tranny and the Pennzoil is not working. So I bought his Maxima Racing 10W-40. Yes, it is double in price. And it is mineral as well. Going against everything I thought I knew.
Well, after changing the filter and adding the new oil, and taking it out for a ride - incredible change. The engine valve train noise almost vanished. The engine is much quieter. MUCH quieter. The rear end whine disappeared - yup, it was the tranny. The power was right there. Idling was better and smoother. INdeed the entire engine seemed smoother. I was stunned! Gord was right.
For me, that was the best extra $25 I ever spent. Cheap insurance. And that bike is not made anymore - 1990 and is a show bike, fully restored.
That is my experience. After spending $1,500 and 2 months on a complete restore and repaint, $25 is chump change and worth the price.
@@qwiklok I’m glad that worked for you and oil is strangely a very personal choice I run a heavy weight mineral cause at 70k miles my rockers were getting noisier. Enjoy the ride!!

awesome now ride the crap out of it and follow what suzuki the time interval for the oil change and show the spark plugs . i would love to see what the rings and carbon build up on the top of the piston looks like after a few years- unfortunately no one ever shows those videos for some strange reason and no motocross team road racing team use this oil -- blah blah - ----blah blah blah
I'm happy to show the plugs when I change the oil, I am not tearing the engine down just to prove something to you though. AND I talked to two different people I know that raced local not National level and a lot of them do because they change the oil so often (not factory service intervals) but hey if you don't believe me you could always ask google "Do Motorcycle racing teams use Rotella" and then spend 10 minutes reading the top articles. @@unclealzbbq2185 I won't clean the plugs promise, Seen some good ones claimed during Bow Season, now that is cooling off they are moving more, had 4 in my driveway one night this week when I came home... I know a good sized buck someone is hoping to get this season on a nearby farm but who knows if he will stay once everyone gets them stirred up.

@@unclealzbbq2185 you obviously have no clue about diesel oils. Diesel oil has MORE detergents and has an additive zinc/ boron package nearly identical to motorcycle 4 stroke oils. If anything is going to protect the engine and burn more efficiently.

They label motorcycle oil and automotive oil for a reason. If you are too cheap to buy motorcycle oil for your bike, maybe you shouldn't own a bike.
