Ohh we love both Fortaleza and Ouro Preto. Fortaleza for us is among the top 5 major cities with beaches a coastline in Brazil and it will always have a special place in our hearts especially since the people are also really sweet in Fortaleza. In Ouro Preto, you have a lot of history and culture as well as the world famous sweetness of people from Minas Gérais. Thanks for watching our video 🙏 and we hope you enjoyed it 😊 Abraços
Brazil is actually Portugal. The kingdom was separated in 1822 into two autonomous empires. However, until 1821, we who lived here called ourselves Portuguese, since there was no difference between those born in Europe and those born in America, since it was the same kingdom. The term Brazilian was created after independence. Since they were autonomous empires, they could no longer use the same definition. The cities built until the end of the empire in 1889 were made like this. It was only after the coup d'état that the architect changed it to this ugly square shape, because we had to "no longer look like Portugal". Our change in architecture was a "policy" of the republic to erase our past.
A tip if you guys want to know another similar hidden gem is the town of Pirenópolis in the Goias state. Is quite similar to Ouro Preto but more colorful and have a bunch of waterfalls near it.
Ohh wow, thank you so much for sharing that with us. We lived in Goiânia for a few months, but unfortunately we didn’t visit Pirenópolis. Next time we are there we will definitely visit it. Thanks for watching our video, we hope you enjoyed the content.
Just bu curiosity: There's a movie called Moon Over Parador made in this city in 1998. The movie casting: Sonia Braga, Raul Julia and Richard Dreyfuss.
You both did such a great job with this video, I loved it!! I am heading to Belo Horizonte at the start of September and will spend a few days in Ouro Preto too. Any recommendations for restaurants that you enjoyed? I am sure the food is great everywhere in Minas but love your insights if you have them 🙂. Cant wait to look at some of your videos
Hi there, thank you for watching our video and we are very glad you liked it 😊 For Belo Horizonte we did a couple of videos as well so feel free to watch them. As for restaurants in Ouro Preto we tried a few that we can recommend: there is a coffee shop very close to Praça Tiradentes called Café Esquina da Realeza which has coffee, ice cream, pastry etc. Then on the street right next to Praça Tiradentes we also had dinner one night at a restaurant called Escadabaixo Bar Cozinha Brasileira. Another option is a very cute spot next to the bridge which is near the Casa dos Contos called Seu José; this place has drinks and food and is located near the bridge and the botanic garden of Ouro Preto. Feel free to reach out if you need any other information and we hope you have an amazing time there. We absolutely loved Minas. All the best 😊
@@global_citizens THANK YOU ❤ I found this video by first watching one of your Belo Horizonte videos. I still have to finish that one and will watch your other ones too.. I will for sure try these recommendations! I loved that bridge in your video so eating and having a drink in this lovely surrounding sounds perfect. Thanks so much and I will reach out if I have other questions ☺
great vid, btw the reason why Tiradentes is not wearing an uniform and has this long hair and beard is, actually a religious reason, because the state wanted to portrayal him as more like a religious figure, a "Saint" kinda resembling Jesus Christ. So you could say that it happened also because it was a political reason.

Imperial city. Brazil was not a colony of Portugal, but rather a principality. So much so that the kings of Portugal, before ascending to the throne of Portugal, were Princes Regent of Brazil. Colony is a term used by the Anglo-Saxons for their lands outside Europe. France, Holland and England had colonies. Spain had the Viceroyalty of Spain, which is the Spanish part of America, and Brazil, the Portuguese part of America, was a principality of Portugal.
