As someone who’s on the Aspergers spectrum, I’m strict keto/carnivore, I’d like to say that it is always seen as the most negative thing in the world, when there are a huge amount of positives. Me for instance I’m doing a degree in architecture, in my 3rd year and on track for a first. I can also fix cars and generally have this ability to absorb information. However I’m a bit socially awkward. I always feel there’s a huge focus on what people on the spectrum can’t do rather than what they can. Excellent video Rob, hopefully it should spark a good discussion.

Morgan what an incredibly smart and intelligent person you are. What your comment states is nearly 40-50 years with some non-autistic people to understand. You are definitely on the right track and Dr Cywes is telling the truth. The reason I know he is telling the truth is because I grew up in a life without Aspergers or Autism. It was not that long ago. I studied psychology to try to understand the rise in autism and other personality disorders. Only to know much later in life it had more to do with our gut and microbiome than anything else. Please stay strong. Do not worry about what other people think. Because even without autism, most people are worried about what other people think of their moves and what they say. Stay true to yourself. Follow what makes you feel healthy and happy. Not things that make you feel overloaded and crazy..!!!

Such a calm child! I was a special Ed teacher, teaching many students on the spectrum. Many of them brought the worst lunches of any of the students. They had very specific tastes but now, more than ever, I know the goldfish and red juice box were horrible for them. It kept their behaviors in check because the parents packed what the child wanted but in the long run it did not help anyone. Watch “Sugar Coated” - life changing!

Absolutely true what you're saying Doctor Cywes! My daughter is mostly carnivore and she's a perfectly fit teenager. She was enjoying fats and meat since young kid. She didn't accept eating vegetables, except in little quantities. She is perfectly healthy and all blood tests are in normal range. To recap: keep carbs away from your kids as much as possible if you love them.

God Bless you Dr. Cywes for being on this planet, we need so many more like you helping humanity live a healthy life. I have you and a few other doctors like you change my life from a horrible diabetic life threating A1c of over 14 to a A1c of 5.1 in 10 months. Just imagine how much human misery can be aborted or eliminated just by changing your daily diet. How many parents and children are effected by AUTISM each year and the older generation like myself from Alzheimer's by a simple change in our daily diet.

I found this absolutely fascinating! I'm 59 years old and can't recall knowing anyone with autism when I was growing up, and I've always wondered what could be the cause of the dramatic increase in it. After watching this video, it all makes sense. Well done, Dr. Cywes!

    • @simonjohnmeredith
      @simonjohnmeredith 3 года назад +4

As a 56yr old with (recently diagnosed) Aspergers, I can give you a much more plausible explanation of you experience; It isn’t at all that the incidence of ASD is increasing, there is zero evidence of this. It is more a case of better understanding of the condition leading to more diagnoses. Equally, whilst I find Robert’s explanation interesting and worthy of more investigation, it really fails to explain the hereditary nature of the condition. There may well be some connection with diet, as proposed, but to suggest it’s a primary cause is at the very least premature. I’d be interested to see some peer reviewed papers on the subject. Citation please Dr Cywes!

We trust too much in “experts”. I’ve learned that one has to research health issues. Of course, kids on the spectrum love their crunchy carbs because of the texture. And the carbs are addictive, as we know. At 16, I would try and change his diet slowly. If he’s high-functioning, he might understand the science behind low carb. Good luck!

Dear Dr. Cywes, let me just say what a beautiful little baby you have. It reminds me of my beautiful baby nearly 20 years ago. You talk about fat. I'm a believer. My very first job when I left high school was doing an apprenticeship as a chef. We knew back then, nothing about Keto, nothing about improved diets. We ate what tasted good. There was very little junk food as we know it today. So we cooked animal protein with plenty of fat. You would not eat like that in a restaurant today.
Yet I remember my life when I was pregnant and thought "oh maybe I should be on a lower calorie intake", which my doctor suggested as I was putting on so much weight. I ate everything, I ate pizza, steaks, lamb, I ate fatty chicken, I ate one day a kilo of figs and I followed my cravings!!
OMG I could not handle certain foods ie anything that was not natural because it smelt really bad. Or did not interest me. From day 1 of solid feeding, my daughter I realised things like pumpkin and potatoes did not really make her full enough to last the night through without feeding. So I gave her my food. Lamb chops, steak, full fat chicken.....omg she used to tear into those bones. I know she was loving it! So I kept feeding her this. To this day when I had several women out of 30 who had autistic children. I felt in a weird way that connecting to my child was not only through communicating with her, reading books about several thousand of them and playing with her, and her diet that I would not have produced the most intelligent and beautiful person that she is. Her life is soooo much better than mine. Thank you for your old fashioned reminder. EAT WHAT OUR PARENTS ATE!!! That's of course if you're as old as me now.

As someone with high-functioning ASD, I can attest to the benefits of low-carb diets and intermittent fasting. They help me think clearer and give me more emotional brandwidth to deal with the friction that so often occurs between ASD and everyday life. Eating properly makes me feel more like myself and has helped to resolve many of my gastrointestinal issues commonly linked with ASD. And I’m not the only one. The magic pill documentary follows a couple of children (plus adults with other illnesses) in their dietary change to ketogenic, very interesting to see how they begin to recover on a high fat diet :)

Why do we not see spikes in autism in high carb cultures where saturated fats aren't as readily available?

Awesome advice! I’m newly pregnant with my 7th child and all of my other children have been very healthy and intelligent. I believe it has a lot to do with everything you’re suggesting! I’ve been eating a ribeye and lots of fresh cow’s milk every day! I’m curious what exactly you feed your baby because I have always had a hard time breastfeeding. I have goats and a family milk cow now and I would love to avoid formula in the future.

I know someone who fed her baby goats milk and carrot juice extract... her baby had severe allergies to so many things, they couldn't find a formula for her. I've heard goats milk has everything in it that humans milk has except for something that is in carrots.

My parents opened a daycare in a town p. 27,000 about 20 years ago. No autistic children were around. Now, they have enough autistic children to fill an entire classroom. It's truly heartbreaking.

    Dr Cywes
A lot of what you are saying makes sense. However if autism were truly caused by low omegas and saturated fat, wouldn’t we be seeing a huge difference between offspring of vegans / vegetarians vs meat eaters ? I did some digging and it does appear that India and the Middle East have highest rates of vegetarians and also highest rates of autism. Whereas France and Portugal have lowest vegetarianism and lowest ASD.
But in North America we have tons of vegans who are delivering and raising (seemingly) healthy vegan children. You’d think the discrepancy would be more obvious?

Thank you for the information and your effort you put in to these videos. Our oldest daughter most likely is on the spectrum and now we are having issues with breastfeeding our youngest. Could you share the portions of the ingredients you use in your formula replacement.
