BEETLEJUICE is back on Broadway, and the production has provided us with this video of the full opening number, "The Whole Being Dead Thing," with some nifty new lyrics to celebrate the show's return. Here's Alex Brightman as the ghost with the most, Elizabeth Teeter as Lydia, and the full company.

Yes, and…the house audio was ducked. In the theatre you couldn't hear anything after "look who's back in New York City". If anything it was getting louder while the video here has to avoid clipping. Really powerful energy in there!

As a stage manager (not on this level but still) the applause and just SCREAMING of everyone in a room for a first show post Covid is a high I will be chasing for the rest of my life. Audiences are the best.

When he finished the song, you could see his inner happiness shining through. Alex Brightman doesn't like being on stage, he LOVES it.
You can absolutely TELL at the end, he does a whole "*breathes it in* I missed this place AND YOU GUYS"

it sounds like they change from audio where the camera was to possibly stage mic audio at "and such a bold departure" so it didn't pick up screaming and you could actually hear them. and then after the song's finished they cut back to the camera audio.

Professional quality recordings (just filming with one camera straight on like the Phantom of the Opera broadcast) are industry standard. To keep a long story short, bureaucratic nonsense about who owns and has the right to distribute what is the main the reason for them never going public. People forget that Broadway knows that proshots don’t decrease attendance, there is a streaming platform for them after all. It’s just bullshit over contracts

Elizabeth did so well as Lydia, she’s such a perfect fit for this show, and Alex killed it like everyone knew he would. This entire cast is AMAZING

Even though I’ve never seen the School of Rock musical, I heard he played the role of Dewey Finn really well. So I think him playing another Jack Black character would really suit him well, especially one that’s a dorky, kung fu fanboy. Plus, Alex Brightman has such a loveable and energetic personality that I think he’s perfectly suited to play a panda. Lol.
And man, can you imagine hearing him sing Kung Fu Fighting? It would absolutely kick ass! 😁

Actually... improvisation is just about the worst thing you can do without checking with the director first. I'm not saying that's a bad idea, it's just, if you're every in a play or musical, DON'T DO THAT WITHOUT CHECKING FIRST!! Please.

This is the magic of live theater. Everyone has time to celebrate before they move on to the big number. There’s no worry about the cheers drowning out important dialogue or the best part of a song.
And not being locked down anymore.
Oh man, Alex is so lucky as BJ allows him to break the fourth wall, he is really able to soak in and really milk that crazy reception... I know they're pros, but that must've been so hard as the ensemble to not crack.
Here I am in Australia, and I got chills seeing that. Can only imagine what it was like in the theatre.

@Amelie S I really hope so! I mean, it has the Australia connection being written by Perfect. I was lucky enough to see it in May 2019 a couple of week after it opened, with the OG cast. It was/is incredible.
He’s lucky he was hiding his face behind the newspaper! I was really hoping they’d try to take a cheap shot at the Winter Garden for kicking them out, but what we got was still Amazing!
honestly, if they did it, I wouldn’t even care, I would love to see it, but if deadpool had a musical or show of his own, Alex needs to play him. now that’s fourth wall breaking at its finest.

This is a show that I desperately want proshot (tbh like every other show I love) but this also just makes me realize how much I want to see it live. Recordings don't make me want to see it live less, they make me want to see it more!
It’s phenomenal live! It was my very first Broadway show, and nothing compares!
Beetlejuice would make such a great proshot because they could do so many fourth wall breaks about it being filmed/a movie 😂

The energy in the room is unmatched and I love all the new little things Alex is doing versus before they closed it’s subtle but very cool
That little hand wave Alex did to the fans was adorable.
Not just the hand wave but the way he held onto the paper again afterwards
Shout out to the ensemble who had to the hold the grumpy scary faces during the long applause at the end and not cry or break in that moment, you can see how overwhelmed they were as soon as they were allowed to break
As someone who was in the audience of this show, it’s absolutely breathtaking

@@alyssaf9650 i was there reopening, elizabeth teeter walked out, so did kerry butler and some ensemble. alex didnt walk out and leslie stopped by the stage door but they cant do pictures or autographs at the moment
I’ve never wanted to see a comeback of a Broadway musical so bad! I love what they did with the changing of the lyrics for its return! I must see Alex!

To be fair, they change it for every location they perform from stage to tv promo to the Tony's to the Macy's parade. And that's honestly genius how they/Alex Brightman are able to do that so flawlessly every time.

It’s my favorite part of any performance they’ve done. I’ve watched multiple different ones just for the lyric change to the set.
i know you only get a small snippet of how electric the atmosphere must’ve been last night but it truly is infectious! it’s such a joy to see and HEAR how excited both the show’s cast + crew and its audience are about the show being back. what a journey.

The composer Eddie perfect is Australian and currently is playing in 9-5 musical in Sydney, so I have my fingers crossed he’ll bring his production home 😍🤞🏼

Alex absolutely rolled with it, but you can tell he was taken aback and even somewhat terrified by the audience reaction behind that newspaper. It’s good to know this show was able to come back and with such energy. I hope one day to see it in some official form, but for now it makes me joyous just knowing it’s back in full swing with Alex.

Yesterday was my birthday and I saw my first ever Broadway show, Beetlejuice the musical. This was truly amazing and I’m so happy to see the old and new cast members back on the stage. This show truly blew me away and actually scared me a bit.

@@aloenix I was taking a picture on my phone and then the show started. The way the show starts is it randomly starts thundering and crazy lights start flashing and it was terrifying.

You can tell how much energy there was in that room, the audience is clipping the mic when he first appears on stage
that's the spirit off live theatre, the interaction between the ordnance and the performers, and it just doesn't get better than that.
Because it can quite literally make ore even brake a performance. Especially with concerts.

I saw this last night!!! It was amazing!!! Elizabeth is by far my favorite Lydia!!! The cast was phenomenal!! I loved every part of it!!!! I cried so much that night!!!! 1000000+/10!!! My man Alex Brightman just got a concussion three days before the show we were supposed to go to.
Slightly salty about that but his understudy did really good and it was still an amazing experience.
I very much hope he gets better for the last showing on Broadway in 10 days.

watched this in 2019 with my drama class when we went to new York. Honestly its the best show I have ever seen and I encourage anyone to go and see it! Amazing.
