I'm half hispanic. The other half of my family came here on the Mayflower's first voyage in the 1600's. The other day I was told to get out by maga because they didn't want me in their country. This happened in the blue city of San Diego in the blue state of California. This IS my country more than any of these bigots and now they're trampling on my rights as an American and human being. My family and I can't leave the house without triple checking for ID in case one of these agents wants to harass us and we know even then it's a toss up whether that would make a difference. I live on the Navajo reservation. I went to Tim Walz’ rally in Window Rock. He made it clear that the Harris administration would honor all Native American sovereignty and agreements with the US government. Many Navajo people still voted for trump.

The Diné (aka Navajo) are the Diné/Navajo Nation. The Cheyenne tribe is the Cheyenne Nation, same with Hopi, Wintun, Miwok, etc. etc. etc. The casinos built on the reservations are considered located in the tribal nations, not in America.

If Navajo/Diné are not safe from ICE, no one who’s skin color is darker than mayonnaise seems to be safe from ICE. Soy Boricua and I was born in Germany on a US base that has since been given back to Germany and no longer exists as a US base, so I’m in a gray area. While both of my parents were born in the US, my dad’s parents were born in Puerto Rico. His dad was born 2 years before Puerto Ricans gained US citizenship. Even my dad is in a gray area. Both of my dad’s parents have passed, but if they were alive, I don’t think either of them would be surprised by this. My abuela was a teenager when the Puerto Rican flag was legalized and she had her first child a year before it was legal to have our flag. She ensured all of her kids were born in the US and raised in Puerto Rico not knowing what citizenship status would look like in the future. If Navajo/Diné are being detained, it opens the doors for anyone being detained.
Natives weren't allowed to speak our languages, hold our ceremonies, or even have our long hair up until the 1970s. Too many children died in the residential schools and were never brought home. If you were born in a USA base everseas, or while your father served overseas, they should have been issue or your parents a birth certificate abroad for you. I'm half hispanic. The other half of my family came here on the Mayflower's first voyage in the 1600's. The other day I was told to get out by maga because they didn't want me in their country. This happened in the blue city of San Diego in the blue state of California. This IS my country more than any of these bigots and now they're trampling on my rights as an American and human being.
My family and I can't leave the house without triple checking for ID in case one of these agents wants to harass us and we know even then it's a toss up whether that would make a difference.
Every day they look to dehumanize us more for being too brown for them and every day they leave me fewer and fewer choices than full disobedience. They can try to take more rights if they want, but this is the exact situation the 2nd Amendment was written.

I live on the Navajo reservation. I went to Tim Walz’ rally in Window Rock. He made it clear that the Harris administration would honor all Native American sovereignty and agreements with the US government. Many Navajo people still voted for trump.

Well, technically, they're sovereign. Their tribal names are their national identities. They have a relationship with America, but they have their own sovereignty. The Diné (aka Navajo) are the Diné/Navajo Nation. The Cheyenne tribe is the Cheyenne Nation, same with Hopi, Wintun, Miwok, etc. etc. etc. The casinos built on the reservations are considered located in the tribal nations, not in America.

My mother was 13 in 1943 and wrote a paper in 8th grade comparing Germany’s ethnic cleansing policy to what the US gov’t did to the Native people in the 19th century. If Navajo/Diné are not safe from ICE, no one who’s skin color is darker than mayonnaise seems to be safe from ICE. Soy Boricua and I was born in Germany on a US base that has since been given back to Germany and no longer exists as a US base, so I’m in a gray area. While both of my parents were born in the US, my dad’s parents were born in Puerto Rico. His dad was born 2 years before Puerto Ricans gained US citizenship. Even my dad is in a gray area. Both of my dad’s parents have passed, but if they were alive, I don’t think either of them would be surprised by this. My abuela was a teenager when the Puerto Rican flag was legalized and she had her first child a year before it was legal to have our flag. She ensured all of her kids were born in the US and raised in Puerto Rico not knowing what citizenship status would look like in the future. If Navajo/Diné are being detained, it opens the doors for anyone being detained.
Natives weren't allowed to speak our languages, hold our ceremonies, or even have our long hair up until the 1970s. Too many children died in the residential schools and were never brought home. They are even trying to overturn the rights of Native kids to stay with Native families in foster schools. Looks like they are trying to bring back the idea of 'kill the Indian save the man' BS.
