No this is different. Short form scrolling actually damages the dopamine system in our brains. It’s especially damaging to children’s brains. Regular tv doesn’t do this.
This is where parents need to be parents and set limits with their kids. Not just with how much time they're allowed to watch or when, but also know what their kids should watch. Let them watch educational shows, cartoons that showcase good morals and stories, not TikTok brain rot made buy teens and young adults preying on them for clout or mindless short animations made by near talentless fools looking to make a quick buck on this damn site.
Even back then, there were plenty of adults that enjoyed those shows and found them genuinely clever and entertaining; on par with shows specifically written for adult audiences.
Precisely. Those shows ran for hours. Modern day kids can barely sit through more than six minutes of content without their bodies or brains wandering. 🙄 It's embarrassing.
Mike Judge is on record as regretting Beavis and Butthead in some ways. It was meant to mock dumbassery and ended up with a lot of kids emulating the titular characters idiocy. It's why he went over the top with Idiocracy. And yet, here we are.

I teach middle school in a rural town, a lot of kids don't realize how powerful these companies are and how they're collecting and selling information. I try to teach them how they can responsibly use their technology but how it's designed to be so addictive, even adults have a hard time regulating their phone use. The kids have to keep their phones in their lockers and get detention if they're caught using phones during school hours. When you take their phones away they're surprisingly articulate and intelligent, and I get music requests from 90's bands and hip hop groups and kids know a lot. Grown ups need to stop acting like kids, otherwise we can't expect kids to grow up.

I agree with both of you, parents need to give better guidance to their children and moderate their technology use, because giving a one year old a iPad is just crazy. As other kids my age say "touch grass" should actually be done, touch grass literally because it's far better than scrolling through Shorts for hours.
@@Ives_Atten I even struggle sometimes as a 13 year old with scrolling a little bit. But I can use proper grammar, so at least that is a sign of intelligence!
Not really. It's the outdated Constitution. We are the only country that hasn't changed it based on today's society. We could restrict what is posted, but this is the cost of Freedom!
Not exactly. The CORPORATIZATION of things like YT, FB, and even AOL and chat rooms from back in the day destroyed what could have remained an incredible thing. Believe me, I know. I remember when "IRC" and UNIX systems were friggin' brand new. Real people were making real connections. But as always, SOMEONE SMELLED CASH. 🙄
Some time ago I argued that words and expressions like "mid", "no cap fr", "bet" and "rizz" are degrading and leading to illiteracy, and that kids need to read books, otherwise they will become neanderthals when they grow up. The response, mainly by Americans, was, "this is jargon", "ok Boomer" and called me a "classist". The irony? I am Bulgarian, our language even doesn't use the same alphabet, but I have learnt English out of love and respect for the language. And there is a difference between a jargon/slang and an "ooga-booga"-type of degraded speech.

Don’t get me wrong, every modern generation has had some form of “brain rot”, but this generation’s is just the worst. The last of Gen Z and all of Gen Alpha (so far) is just… pure AIDs for the brain. I understand it all, as a mid-Gen Z from ‘06, and I can tell how nonsensical and mindless it is. This is so true. As a kid being taken to a restaurant with adults, I listened and learned to interact with them, to talk, to hold a conversation and to have eye contact. I'm hearing that kids now can't interact, look at people even, can't spell, can't talk properly...
It’s not the parent’s fault. Modern work culture is the driving force behind why parents are the way they are. Modern society is actively trying to make the world dumber so the powerful can take over without question.

Seriously though it is fucking despicable these parents have just hooked their kids up to ipads and left them to their own shit hoping it'll turn out good.
It's nothing new though. The Simpsons had a running gag how they all worshiped TV and that did more to parent the kids than Homer and Marge did. It's the same thing, only the TV has turned in to a tablet, and cable is now the internet.
Just listened to a woman at work who has 5 kids and she told me she gets them an iPad when they turn two and a new one 5. We need to somehow bring back elements of the 2000's to this new generation, especially if/when many of us have children. Now with Tiktok and social media, we have the most pathetic content imaginable like "looksmaxxing", "rizz", "skibidi toilet", and many more things I am so unfortunate to know of.
Kind of agree. I noticed compared to the 2000s, pop culture feels kind of dead, especially with children and teens. There's hardly anything hugely popular with young people lately that speaks for them.
In the 2000's you had Kids ride their bikes outside and goof around with friends, or interact with physical games like trading cards or collectible figures. That was without using TikTok but things like 4chan, RUclips, etc. I was diagnosed with ADHD and given amphetamines which started several years of addiction to several substances before I managed to stop and get to the root causes: sedentary lifestyle, no exercise, poor sleep and the content I consume. We currently live in a palliative society. Instead of treating the disease, the pain is temporarily alleviated with drugs. Many Gen Z and the current generation will instead be led into believing they are dysfunctional and that they need a drug which boosts their dopamine levels up 1200% to function at a task that requires a few minutes of effort. Algorithms that ruin your capacity to think and control the narratives you hear about and big pharmaceutical companies that profit off that and governments that are bribed to look the other way (lobbyist dollars or for the sake of productivity) will only compound this issue. Over time, I built up a community via quality content. Today though? I HAVE NO CHANCE. My work is literally not for the timid, the unengaged, the lazy, the ADHD, nor the snap-judgemental. It took tons of studies, work, preparation, insight, planning, experimentation, and analyses to achieve what I have over the decades. NO ONE IS GOING TO COMPREHEND THAT IN 30-60 SECONDS. As a teen born in the 2010s, I keep witnessing my friends and classmates mindlessly scrolling IG (instagram) shorts, Im not saying im not one of them cuz I have some kind of addiction of scrolling youtube videos. I noticed that Im getting closer to be an "Introvert" every day. Reasons why people getting more addicted to shorts (from my experience) is that they dont clearly understand the cons of mindlessly scrolling, they need to experience the cons themselves and figure out ways to quit scrolling , but not completely banning their phone time, because it just makes the addiction more worse.
As another 2010s teen, I usually limit myself to Facebook Messenger and RUclips. Thats it. Well now that I'm older I can access Reddit and Discord (at my own risk) but I still use RUclips long form content because I cant stand watching 5 videos in 3 minutes. I disagree with the angle of "its addictive". Its only addictive because parents give cellphones to their kids on every single nuisance and simply dont care.

Having grown up in the 2000s, when technology was evolving so rapidly from one year to the next, it still feels weird to be reminded that many children these days have access to iPads and all the modern entertainment that they offer from a young age, as opposed to progressing through increasingly sophisticated technology the way that I did, starting off watching VHS tapes, listening to audiobooks on a Walkman, and playing games on interactive CDs as a toddler, then moving on to watching DVDS and playing platform-based computer games like Bugdom as a slightly older child, then getting an iPod and a PlayStation after starting primary school, then upgrading to an iPod Touch with no internet access as a pre-teen, before finally getting an iPad in my early teens and being allowed free access to things like RUclips and social media a year or so later.
Millennial parents don’t understand that their “iPad kids” will suffer when they face the real world as adults. Don’t blame your kids when they WILL become hikkikomori and will live with you forever. It’ll all be your fault that you didn’t raise your kids and didn’t prepare them for life in the real world.

Mental illness is up across the board for millennials. I don't think we can nail it down to any one cause, but it's an undeniable phenomenon. Self harm is up, suicide is up, addiction is up, depression and anxiety are up.
I don't have an example with any children, but I definitely know someone who was extremely depressed because all they did was go on facebook and youtube and endless scrolling or watching shorts. Ever since they started working an actual job and didn't have time to really do these things, they are now one of the happiest people I know. On the surface its kind of odd, you would think working all day could make someone depressed, but it just goes to show that humans really need purpose or something meaningful to do like a hobby, job, or just active activity like hiking or shooting some hoops.
„GTA clips with random cuts of Joe Rogan podcast is actually a business model” that’s a statement
My wife stays at home, I have to work hard so they never have to watch an iPad or RUclips. Men, stand up for your children.
As for those kids who haven't learned how to cook or change a tire, they might have a family member who is not the best choice to work with. "You will bleeping wreck it!" "It's common sense."
You can see how it affects us too. Watch this video. The images constantly change to keep us hooked. We are no better
i lost my best friend because whenever we would hang out he would always be scrolling on tiktok. id legit be talking about something and he'd cut me off mid sentence and say "look at this tiktok"
He sounds like a winner. You made a wise choice. Stay away from failures.
This video opened my eyes. These 16 minutes and 38 seconds were ones of the most useful moments in my life.
I am a Gen Z sometimes I have low attention span around a couple of seconds to minutes but sometimes on some videos I have a LONG attention span which is werid 💀
It's about what interests you, it's common to space out when presented something boring
Im in the late 2010s and yes sometimes I have low attention span but mainly because I'm just tired but when I'm recharged, boy I can watch a whole 30 min to 1 hour documentary about history
im suprised people still Remember quandagle dingle
Quandale dingle was a legendary meme tho that was everywhere couldn’t escape it
I am eleven years old, I think this generation is DOOMED. Their parents haven't got hopes to them. The future society will be the nightmare...
i’m 21 and addicted to my phone. i can’t imagine how screwed gen alpha is gonna be
Now I'm glad I'm single with no kids😮 but it's really sad
So.. your gay?

Went to DelTaco, they demolished the kids playland, the one I remember playing on as a child😢
Older half of gen Z here (specifically 1998-2005) and man it really is crazy to see how bad things have gotten in just my brief lifespan. As a little kid I had mountains of books and did art all the time, nowadays I'm shocked to see people half my age or younger waltzing around with ipads or some other form of media. Seeing the rise of ipad kids should SCARE everyone, it's not funny or entertaining to see kids go ballistic after having their beloved tablet taken away, it should be a huge warning sign for what's to come.
Set timer. I like the YT shorts and have experienced the time warp speed when watching. The absorption of info is intense. This is a good video to remind us to set the timer when watching.
As a middle schooler (8th grade, born 2010) I'm doing just fine. I'm I honors LA and I'm doing high-school math. I have tons of friends who are the same. My school is honestly fine. Sure, there are some kids like this, but most of us are fine and co existing with the brainrot
Mostly we just joke about it but it ends there. We dont integrate it into our language
You're in 8th grade, and you still can't use proper punctuation?
Mom was right it’s all because of the damn phone.
Parents! Don’t give your kid an IPad! Instead turn on your PS5, turn on Dark Souls Remastered, give the controller to your kid and say “GOOD LUCK BUDDY”. It will keep them busy and they will playing something fun
lol
As a gen z, I have a sister that always watches skibidi toilet
majority users of social media are beyond 18 said by gpt , go beat it in debate if you are gen z then come here 💀💀
Your sponsors ain’t paying enough 😂😂😂 that transition was smooth 😂😂😂 7:10
Man at this point, I just hate the human society now because no wonder why don’t trust no one and also how bad the world is now because of this type of crap and also how cringe the world is now this could impact the future. All I can say is the future is going to be something else with this type of stuff.
1930 & 1940: "Comic books are going to rot kids brains"
1950,60 & 70: "Tv is going to rot kids brains"
1980 & 1990: "Video games are going to rot kids brains"
2000 & Today: "Internet is going to rot kids brains"
The thing about brains is that they are extremely adaptive to new enviorments. Some kids are gonna go psicotic, others are going to turn out just fine and most of them somewere in between. As always it all comes down to parenting.
you're right but those things before internet at least made some sense. Those brainrots don't
Plot twist, those things did rot kids brains and that's why Gen X and Millenials are dysfunctional as hell.
@@cart3r_badd this
tell that to the teachers who are quitting when dealing with these hell spawns, when one took their devices - they dead ass were saying it's """"traumatic""""
Real television is dying. All those good informational channels like animal planet, discovery are killed. Cartoons are super woke. 1 minute content changes our wiring so quickly that one minute we are sad and other we are laughing. I mean this is slow death of curiosity. I'm never going to introduce internet to my kids till the age of 10 and I'd prefer home schooling. Cuz schools aren't any less doomed either. I know you agree.
I talked to my wife about this phenomenon happening with children not developing because they are using ipads. We agreed that we wont let our child use any devices for the first several years.
Shout out to the gen z kids like me who actually spent time outside when we were younger.
I’m tired of the “parents are tired after working a long day”..then you shouldn’t have had the kid if you didn’t wanna do any of the work. I’m tired of parents and teachers being given infinite slack for their many failings.
While that's true. The cost of living has accelerated past most people could have imagined. Everyone is working longer for less pay. Kids deserve more than being palmed off with RUclips as their parents.
@@MOSMASTERING And the same ppl who are gonna complain about working so hard and so long probably have time to watch/play fantasy football or watch tik tok for hours or on twitter/facebook...How many tv apps do most ppl have now? The time is there and that's still a poor excuse. At this point if you're having kids and you don't KNOW that you can comfortably homeschool them with one parent free at all times then you're a short sighted fool and I don't have any sympathy for parents at all anymore. They let the schools just become day care and shooting galleries with no standards of actually educating the kids and all parents have to do to prevent that is put some interest in academics and their kids futures but they simply DO NOT WANT TO. That's all it boils down to, but they don't wanna feel like the dead beat parents they are so the excuses are made.
The level of overstimulation of this video is so ironic 😂 the constant mention of subway surfers and then a clip of subway surfers, the brain rot clip changes literally every second.
It’s not helping that you also are doing the constant change of visual. It just show how we also struggle with how life “should be” .
At the very least it'll mean that this video can have much more mass appeal. Hopefully people learn something
As a father, I don’t care how tired I am after coming home from work, I make time for my child because every moment with them is a blessing. Plus when something is put on the TV to entertain my child, I sit there and monitor it and if I can’t sit there and monitor it I put on something I’ve already vetted. Some people choose to be hard workers yet lazy parents, parenting isn’t supposed to be easy, nothing in life that is meaningfully fulfilling is.
the few people using my space in the mid 2000s would have never guessed we would go this far
It's Bad when a gacha game like ZZZ has one of the Main Characters say Rizz...
It's bad when gacha game. Period.
just admit it - we are fucked...
is there any time in history when humans were not fucked?
Exactly we are all doomed at this point. What the type of Internet we have now and especially AI.
@@sassycatthill1495 The Yuga shift it's what's happening and this is all about to change, there is a great deal of hope
Overreacting, " oh no, a bunch of people are on their devices! Humanity is doomed! " grow up, our species survived situations 1000x times worse than this (we survived being on the blink of exiction, no way are computer devices ending us)
Remember the outrage over The Teletubbies "over-stimulating" kids back in 1997? This is nothing new. Millennials have grown up without going completely mental.
Teletubbies is the reason why Gen z is so fucked up imo.
I got a few judgmental looks for giving my toddler my phone in the airport from people who were on their phones Lolol.
Mental illness is up across the board for millennials. I don't think we can nail it down to any one cause, but it's an undeniable phenomenon. Self harm is up, suicide is up, addiction is up, depression and anxiety are up.
@@HipshairBecause adults can self regulate (in theory) and toddlers can't. Being in an airport should be stimulation enough for a toddler.
@@Hipshairyeah, they aren't toddlers. Be better
Were not meant to sit in front of a screen and nothing else. I feel bad for the next generation. They are extremely behind. They can recover, I was certainly behind on my schooling for many many years. But its an uphill battle, and if they are not interested in changing or improving, then there is only so much anyone can do.
Incorrect: headphones can't dent your skull, it is a solid chunk of rigid and hard calcium, what can be seen after wearing headphones for an extended period is the displacement of a thin layer of fat which sits on top of your skull which springs back in a matter of days and will never permanently deform
most of everything else is right but I just really hate hearing that one
