I think a lot of people are willfully ignorant to exploitation factor of these apps as most are lazy and don't want accountably for their lack of action in their own lives. if you cannot see that everything on social media is a sales pitch or a lie of people projecting an unattainable lifestyle or look, then you deserve to be exploited by those apps.

One of the main things that attracted me to my wife is that like me, she had no Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. When I was single and met a woman, the moment she asked about my Facebook or Instagram, I knew she was a waste of my time. When people find out I don't have social media accounts they ask what I'm hiding. I tell them that I'm not hiding anything that unlike them, I have a healthy self-esteem and don't need "likes" to make myself feel better.

I still have FB and I’m afraid to delete it bc I don’t want to be rude to family but I think I will soon. @@justzcross6236 FOMO stands for "fear of missing out", a common strategy in advertising and in video games to increase sales and player retention by forcing artificial scarcity. It's basically constantly poking the customer to buy/obtain something because it will be gone/unavailable.
For social media, it's similar. FOMO in this case is "fear of missing out on what your friends are doing". Like how some people instantly check their phones the moment they wake up, before even think about something else (like drinking water, eating breakfast or preparing for the day).

I have a BIG problem with doctors who are on Instagram and tik tok who show some of them mid surgery and doing dances ect , sometimes mid surgery. It seems they themselves (dr's) have gotten blinded by social media fame. Subjecting their patients to harm.

Yes but you are definitely missing out on the genuine communities that tiktok have. Tiktoks algorithm works really well at giving you content that you want and are interested in. I don't think there's much to miss out on when it comes to instagram. But tiktok for sure because of the diversity of content on it. When I'm on tiktok I don't feel like I am being manipulated or anything. In fact I get a lot of content that makes me smile and laugh and have all the same feelings I've had with youtube. It's not the app it used to be and I would argue that youtube doesn't do as well with entertainment and bringing together communities. RUclips used to be good, but now it's mostly just google in video format. I don't get reccomended content on youtube that interests me like 90% of the time.

I have finally deleted Instagram because my mental health deteriorated especially the dysphoria, body dysmorphia and post partum. Lately, all my old "friends" are soulless, confused, mentally ill and so desperate for attention or relevance.

Thats true but at the same time I think there's a huge difference between magazines and social media. Average Screen time of my generation is 6-8 hours a day and plus, social media gives the impression of being c"close" to those people you see online (parasocial relationships) so those beauty standards seem to be normal and attainable. I would guess that back then, people made a bigger difference between magazines and real life. Now, Social media and real life becomes one.

Previously, when I was deeply engaged with social media, I perceived the world in a flat, two-dimensional way, struggling to distinguish between illusion and reality.
Now, having stepped away, I view life with what feels like a three-dimensional clarity, as if from a bird's eye view.
Additionally, time seems to have expanded since I abandoned social media. This change has allowed me to savour each moment with greater depth and enjoyment.
I do not regret it one bit.

I deleted instagram about 3 years ago. I cant stress this enough it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My sister is still in highschool and luckily I have been able to keep her off the social media too.

What’s even worse about all of them getting plastic surgery is they then go on to LIE ABOUT GETTING IT. This is what worsened my BDD in the 2010s when i briefly used Instagram, but it was like my childhood experiences cranked up to 100…I thought growing up in the 2000s was hard, but I feel so terrible for young people having to go through their most formative years during these dark times. 😢

I live in a small town 5k people and social media only exasperated the gossip issue tenfold here. The older folks are who I used to have good conversations with are now the ones trolling fb all day everyday. I always though insta was harmless but kinda opened my eyes to it now. I'm always hoping to get any kind of connection with anyone but seems like I'm pushed further away the more I try to communicate

My ex gf of 12 years ended up falling for the Instagram trap and she became a totally different person that was self-absorbed and addicted to the attention of complete strangers.
Instagram has 10 settings for notifications and 'Quiet Mode'. I put it in 'Quiet Mode' and still got a notification telling me I have a notification but won't tell me what the notification is in regards to because it's in 'Quiet Mode'.
I uninstalled the stupid app.
I mean, you could have disabled all notifications for it through your phone's settings, but it's still a win if you ask me.

What I find amazing is that it needs to be spelled out in a video like this. The affect of social media / insta are so blindingly obvious, yet the masses are still enthralled. So sad.
Hmm, personally I think we know, its just that nobody's bothered enough to stop it. Especially due to the fact that there's a lack of a third space for the younger generations to hang out at, many resort to scrolling on tiktok, instagram and other social communities. I don't agree with this at all, but this is a consequence of boomers insisting of creating car-dependent cities and suburbs.

I take 3-6 months breaks from social media. Sometimes, it is necessary to disconnect the digital realm, and reconnect with the physical realm instead.

Women have been really changed by social media.
One of the solutions for this is to make sure the people you interact with are people who don’t live behind the screen 24/7 so therefore making your interactions more face to face. Easier said than done cause almost everyone is chronically online even me unfortunately.

From 2019 to the present, the personal interactions I had went from "some" to ZERO. 😂 And even from 2010-2018, I only had so many people calling me (and me calling them). The world seems to have gone 100% virtual, and it has embraced algorithmic plagiarism, manipulation, and monetary jank. Great stuff. 🙄

I only use social media for cooking, art, and networking. I can give less than two shits about who is doing what or what they think I’m doing.

I find it creepy and regretful why I connected my fb to my IG account. Then my reels appearing on my both social medias REALLY KNOWS my likes from my fave color, obsession and love to cats, aesthetics I prefer, anything that grasps me.

It doesn't stop at plastic surgery. Chloe Cole was influenced to transition from female to male at the age of 13. She had her breasts removed at the age of 16, I believe, and came out of it a few years later and transitioned back to female but physically there was damage done to her that can never be corrected. Influenced by Instagram.
Damn. Poor child. I really hope some kind of law is put into place to stop allowing doctors to mutilate these kids. They don't talk about the downside of these procedures enough. So many people are mentally fkd because of this. They repress those stories.

Great content as usual❤ I noticed that when I spend a lot of time using social media, I really detach from reality. After spending 5 hours on TikTok or instagram, I get shocked by how humans are still looking normal outside my house and my social media bubble. I Kind of expect to see perfect faces and bodies and I get disappointed. It’s a weird feeling.
They all start looking the same it’s quite dystopian. I deleted everything except for my art instagram and my mental health looked up significantly
I'll be honest: I don't even find these plastic surgery people attractive at all. Especially the bigger bumbs and so thin bellies. I don't find it beautiful nor sexual attractive.
Conformity is such a problem and especially as young people are so busy with how other people look at them while when other people are being busy with the same thing they don't even have time to value your beauty (or lack there off) for that very reason.
I'm 38 now and while growing up slowly saw through the facade and that none of this really matters. Apparently my nihilism has saved me here as I don't look for this type of validation myself. It just looks so... pointless. All of it.

One may not be everyones cup of tea but it is what you think of yourself that is the most important and being unapologetically happy about all those little things that make up unique you. Never really got into social media as a whole only Instagram and even that I haven't bothered to melt the last remaining brain cells with for the past few weeks and I got to say I don't miss it.

Luckily never had any other Social Media apps except RUclips, which i have dialed down.
I've personally always felt like the world would be a better place had the internet never been publicized. More people would have higher self esteem, more people would have higher attention spans, people wouldn't be addicted to their phones to the point where it gets in the way of general human connections instead becoming a black hole that drains everything good from people

You used to need some basic knowledge of computers to get around the internet; there weren't smarthphones so most people thought of it as something nerdy and not worth much effort. I think the entry barrier got super low with smartphones.
