grande gruppo, avevo 20 anni ero in cameretta e ascoltavo questo album a volume altissimo , ricordo la mia mamma che ora non ce più'....non mi diceva nulla....Mi manca Lei e mi manca questo musica
Wow,it's such a wonderful song!!! I've lived with this song ever since I first heard it. I will continue to live with this song forever!!! Thank you,Then Jerico! Thank you,Mark Shaw!♥️
My all-time favorite TJ tune! This wouldn't sound as awesome or be my all-time favorite track without Scott Taylor's licks. R.I.P. Scott Taylor - you were an unsung brilliant guitarist!
I was an 80s kid, and proud of it. Nothing beats the 80s in terms of musical prowess. The explosion of music that came with MIDI and digital recording after 1981 was astounding, musicians could finally let loose and use the full potential of their skills.
I remember writing the chords for the motive on my piano at home in the morning and then early afternoon rehearsing and writing with Steve, Jasper and Scott at John Henry’s in North London. I picked out a favourite pad sound on the Prophet 5 and started playing the chords. Immediately Steve and Jasper joined in and created a thumping rhythm with jaspers progressions on bass marking the verse bridge and chorus. I know Scott was working out his guitar parts but I was more concentrated on what me and Jasper were doing to listen to Scott. By the afternoon we had mapped out the backing track for Mark to then come in and write the vocals and suggest further progressions and mapping the song. Such simple chords but somehow the voicing of the chords created a mood which worked. This was great fun recording, at Marcus studios I laid down the Prophet 5 pad. Then Owen Davies suggested I double track it by playing it against the first take. The sound coming back of the 2 prophet 5’s playing together was huge. So airy. Nowadays this would be done on the computer however I don’t think we would have captured the magic sound.I played lots of DX7’s too, adding sparkle in between vocals and guitars. I remember Steve Brown suggesting Scott play and acoustic throughout the song which really helped rhythmically. Great memories recording this track. Alex Mungo (credit Alex Right).
Wow!! You are all incredibly talented. This is one of the best songs ever & is such a standout classic. Sugar Box & Big Area are epic masterpieces too & thank you for creating magical music that still sounds timeless, passionate, haunting & beautiful. These songs created the best musical era of all time, the 80s cannot be beat! 💯💚💚💚👏👏👏🌟🌟🌟
Great song.Have this album and The Big Area.Always thought the band had a big stadium sound like Big Country,U2 or Simple Minds. What are Mark Shaw and the other members of TJ doing now?
PAUL JACKSON Hi Paul .... Mark still plays with Then Jerico but not the original line up , check out his various social media’s , fb, Twitter , Instagram etc ... Very Sadly the wonderful Scott passed away last week which is just devastating as he was a awesome musician and proper gent 💔... Jasper is with The Magic E’s , Rob lives in Spain , Steve moved back to London some years ago from Australia ... they’re all doing good xx
Thankyou for the very detailed information and hope you are safe and well.Great to hear Mark is still performing with a new Then Jerico. The 80s was a fantastic decade for music which thankfully is remembered by fans of quality music.
PAUL JACKSON you’re welcome Paul , yes I’m very well thanks for asking and hope you are well also . The 80’s was the best era fro music and I wish I could go back and stay there lol ... Kind of thought ( even back in the day ) that this could be slipped into a Balearic set along side Jibaro , Mandy’s theme , its immaterial, ect ect ....
The most underrated band & album of the 80’s way ahead of their time 🎶🎶👌👍
Transported me back to Saturday in a cleaner, brighter North Manchester in 1988. Absolutely blissful ❤❤

My 1st CD bought. I was just about to get into my university, 1988 cold spring . Hearing this song, I can still feel and smell the cold air drifting.
It's uncanny how songs, like smells, can bring back memories that were deemed long forgotten
Wow,it's such a wonderful song!!! I've lived with this song ever since I first heard it. I will continue to live with this song forever!!! Thank you,Then Jerico! Thank you,Mark Shaw!♥️
I am physically disabled by a car accident 18 years ago since then, music is my support, thanks :-))

Great stuff. Also like Deacon Blue,Love And Money,INXS,Nik Kershaw,Howard Jones to name a few.A great era without any doubt.
They made such stadium fillers, imo. Beautiful, epic songs full of heartfelt lyrics & great musicianship. Brilliant band & still on my playlist.
Kind of thought ( even back in the day ) that this could be slipped into a Balearic set along side Jibaro , Mandy’s theme , its immaterial, ect ect ....
Thomas Larkin that would of been amazing 😉
Brill song, but does anyone know why the song is called "The Motive"? It doesn't feature in the lyrics.
Ooooohhhhhh ahhh, caigo rendida....
Downham Tavern..
Wilson
Es idéntico a simple minds
It's not at all. Then Jericho made their own sound, imho. It's a phenomenal track & I love simple minds but this tops any of their songs, tbh.
