The lady he is dancing with in the video is actually his wife, married since 1979, had three kids, and still married today. This song is an autobiography that was written for her and released in 2003. Alan has several "real Life" songs he has recorded.

My wife and I used to play this song on our guitars. Now that she is gone, way too soon, I can rarely play it all the way through. Sweetie, I’ll always Remember When! I still love and miss you so much.❤️
Three years ago my younger brother unexpectedly past away with a heart attack. After his funeral, I spent the entire hour and a half drive back home with this song on repeat. Tears were gushing every second of the drive. I remembered every little thing we did and shared together. Yes, it can be a very sad song, but it also brings back the memories of all the good times. I think this song allowed me to cry out much of my deep sorrow. Thank you ma'am for playing this song. A beautiful woman with a seemingly beautiful heart, playing a beautiful song. How great would it be if this divisive disoriented life around us could share this beauty in unity. Hopefully some day. God bless all.
Played at my grandfather's funeral to a video collage of pictures from his life. It definitely is sad and happy at the same time. Like our lifetime experiences are in retrospect. Thank you for reacting and for listening. Let the message of the song inspire you to live each day for the love that only comes from God. Best wishes Empress.
Mine too such a bittersweet song my great grandma just passed away and this was played and everyone was smiling and balling looking at the pictures it makes you think of life!
Empress.... I had a million things I wanted to say..... but all I got is Thank You..... You can tell what a beautiful heart you have.... that is just gold...... you are Country Girl.... ;)
I tear up whenever I hear this song....And watching your reaction to the lyrics had me getting emotional right along with you... Truly a beautiful song....I love Alan Jackson for recording this beautiful piece....
Life is short. Have someone to be with. To love with. To live and have a family. Cherish all the memories. On highs and lows and on happiest and saddest moments. And you'll also say Remember When.
You know, I really love Alan Jackson. And, what makes him better is your beautifully transparent and genuine reaction to hearing his music. YOU make me smile, Lady!
This is why we all love Little Empress, because you feel what we do when we hear a tune like this. Enjoyed sharing it with you, Sweet lady. Fan, Jim Colorado
As a man who has seen this video ten plus times and tears up every time and nothing from you tells me that you do not understand the video .. not surprised
Alan Jackson did a tribute performance of He Stopped Loving Her Today, at George Jones Funeral, in front of George's family and hundreds of country music friends. Nobody else could have pulled it off any better than Alan did.
We humans do not matter where in the world we live, but in essence we all the same. Suffering, joy and love. Everything is interconnected and you pass it on each video in each emotion. You are enlightened, God bless you.
it is a survival of a life full of love and suffering that you share together as a family and it is beautiful and if we can do it we may do it once. beautiful song .
Alan is such a great songwriter and performer so I love a lot of what he does but what’s so special about this song to me is how it doesn’t candy coat the struggles people often go through. No one said marriage and raising kids is easy but man is it worth it! The song mentions how the start was hard and how life threw them some curves which happens. Also, how they’ll break each other’s hearts and hopefully bend but not break the marriage. How having kids can teach valuable lessons to the parents who have to let go of so much of themselves and put the kids first which often brings the parents closer even though the job of raising kids is one of the hardest yet most rewarding things they’ll ever do. It also talks about how our perceptions and values change as life moves on and how ultimately we’d do it all again, the struggles, the hurt, the broken trust, the rebuilt trust, the joy, and the love. It’s a masterpiece and had I not been married for 17 years with two kids this song wouldn’t have the same impact on me as it does now. My favorite songs by the icon Alan Jackson are Remember When, Livin’ on Love, Where Were You, Small Town Southern Man, I’ll Try, Here in the Real World, Drive, She’s Got the Rhythm, and Monday Morning Church.
I am so glad I knew love in the old-fashion sense...Love today is so different. I hope you@EMPRESS Joy Jean get to experience that kind of beautiful love, your tender heart deserves it.

I'm not disagreeing with you; just sharing.🙂You probably know that Alan is 62 years old now and still touring (except for Covid). He and his wife have been married 40 years; high school sweethearts.
