  • Bora Bora is known to be an expensive destination. Thanks to a free layover on a trip between New Zealand and the U.S.A., I decided to check it off my bucket list. My goal was to use points and miles to reduce the cost of my Bora Bora mini vacation as much as possible. Did I succeed? Watch and find out! #businessclass #luxurytravel #borabora #hilton #hiltonhonors #creditcardpoints #travelhacking #travelhacks #luxuryvacations #luxuryvacation #frenchpolynesia

This was very informative, as I have wondered about the value of the experience of a Bora Bora. If the lowest level rooms are that good then wow! I'm willing to try it when/if the occasion merits it. Thanks so much for sharing and the details you provided👍🏾

What a great option, I can't wait to take advantage of these types of redemption layovers. What do you think of BILT adding AS as a transfer partner? I applied the day the news broke, though I hope it doesn't do much damage to Alaska miles' value long term.

Hm this actually looks really nice but the transportation cost is kind of high

Yep, the transportation cost is high! I also recently read that this particular resort is trying to cut the free breakfast benefit for Hilton Diamond and Gold members. Yikes!

I am going this month. Resort is much fuller, so don't think I will get any upgrades. Do you know if taxi there takes credit cards?

Btw: I have had similar experiences with other Conrad resorts regarding the items you mention on the "Negatives". I have Marriot Platinum status and have found it a clear cut above Hilton Diamond.

Thanks for sharing! I have never had Marriott Platinum but I'm considering getting the highest level Amex Marriott credit card so that I can try out Marriott Platinum status.

@wherepointsmeettravel A good pick... I have the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant, and am always acknowledged for status and upgraded without asking - so far😊 Combined with the Marriot business card gives 40 nights/yr, and a shot at Titanium status (75 nts), which I may get this yr.

The main problem I have now is that I have the Marriott Boundless card from Chase, which seems to disqualify me from earning the sign-up bonus for the Amex Marriott cards. I'm looking into canceling that card in order to qualify for the Amex card.

Any chance you remember how much paid upgrade was? Specifically to an overwater room.

In my notes, I wrote down that I was offered an upgrade to the Garden View Pool Villa for $250/night. I can't remember the exact price for an upgrade to an overwater room, but I believe it might have been $300-$400/night. I remember contemplating upgrading to an overwater room for just one night, but ended up deciding against it.
