    This hive removal is one my dad got the call for. He called me asking me to come by and help for about an hour thinking the entire situation was what was visible when the drywall was broken out. As you'll see there was much more to the story. It wasn't too bad. I was still able to walk when I was done. Can't say the same for the old guy. He hung in there until we started putting tools away though. The comb was framed and the bees placed in a hive box at my dad's house. They are doing well.

    Smart move bringing your dad along, you do all the talking, he does all the work. It's bad enough I've got the cut out itch going big time, and you go post a video on it. Hardware Hack. I could be wrong as I am visually impaired a bit and not an electrician, but wasn't all of those wires except for the yellow one the old asphalt cloth wires? They looked like it. I know in my area of Georgia and South Carolina if the power is cut, for any reason, the power company requires a whole house electrical inspection by the prevailing Electrical inspection Dept. Prior to reconnecting service. This inspection, in our area at least, would result in the complete rewiring of the house to bring it up to current code and would even include the sacred and panel box and it's location. I have remodeled a couple of houses and recently bought a 1910 home that originally had known and tube wiring. Updated writing on the sixties with some upgrades (?) since then to include a few there prong outlets and one 20amp circuit. Just wondering if I'm blind or just wrong. LOL

    • @SD40Fan_Jason
      @SD40Fan_Jason 5 лет назад +1

      @@jimjordan5630 It all depends on what has to be done. In many cases, old wiring can be grandfathered as long as nothing is changed. I had the pleasure of working on a house built in the 50s with Aluminum wire and the panel was fused rather than breakers. They were wanting to switch the range over from Gas to Electric. But in order to do that it meant a total rewire of the whole house. They could leave it alone and stay on gas, and that was fine. But to switch to a 2-pole service meant replacing the service panel which meant changing all the wire to copper.

    • @ShlisaShell
      @ShlisaShell 5 лет назад +3

      I lived in an old house once. There was a cut wire that used to run to the garage outside and I would pass by it every time I mowed the lawn. I tested it one day with my little blinky tool that I used to see which outlets worked and I'll be damned. I was lucky. I think it was 220.

    Hey Randy, you probably already know this, but a really useful tool to have for checking if those wires are live, is a non-contact voltage detector (a.k.a. 'proximity detector' or 'Volt Tick', a popular brand). It can be gotten from Home Depot for $10-$25, looks like a pen, and detects voltage through the insulation, without the insulated tip needing to be in direct contact with the wire conductor. They light up and chirp if voltage is detected, and usually include a handy built-in penlight. Helps confirm what they're telling you about the status of the power to the building, and eliminates any doubt in a multiple unit scenario as to whether you're checking the correct meter for that unit/wire.

    We had a live wire hanging down in our front yard after a storm. We didn't have power but both of our neighbors did so for a few days all they did was drive by. My dad had been up around it and so had many others that walked by. Thankfully no one bothered it because when the power company finally came by it was a live wire hanging down and was the reason we personally did not have any power..

      @@628DirtRooster Lmao. I have to add 30% immediately thanks to the dollar value difference. That's $98 dollars and I'll guarantee shipping is over a hundred then there is the wonderful taxes on top. You don't want to be Canadian. 36 million people Over 2/3 of our country is forest and wilderness but Trudeau figures we need to pay carbon tax on top. Was listening to that AOC person you got there talking about 70% tax for the tippy top. I started laughing. Ya the tippy top of her pointed head. All said and done up here and my household pays 70%. to pay for all the socialist programs in taxes. Is $40,000 the tippy top? Does this mean I made it and didn't realize?
      I bought a DJI Mavic Drone last year and now government just brought in laws that I need a license to fly. I have to register the drone and I need over 100,000 in liability insurance. Besides that they have laws that I can't fly within a half mile of anything built up. Built up? That's anything man made. Someone gets mad they can use a single fence post in the middle of nowhere as grounds to charge me. fine me and confiscate my now registered drone. This is literally the third hobby they came after. I got guns I can't even buy ammo for or shoot legally. a boat I am no longer allowed to drive legally and a drone I can no longer fly legally.
      Sad part is when I was a kid we were as free as you folks. Soon you folks will be in the same boat. Democrats are coming after your shit too in the same exact way with the same exact tactics they came after mine. Little by little. After all socialism is just common sense you know. Yooooooo that looked like a royal pain to get at. If I've learned one thing from watching you and JP, it's that if I ever get my own house built, I'm going to make sure that every single void space in the house has a simple way to access it.
    Hell, if I ever build my own house, half of the exterior's gonna be void spaces the exact height of the more common Langstroth frame interiors. I'mma live in a swarm trap that'll give the easiest cutouts ever for removals, just slice 'em along the upper and bottom places and chop 'em to length, bam, ready to rubber band. Hook the local beekeepers up with colonies left and right!
    Spoilers: I'm never gonna make enough to build my own house the way i want to.

    Randy, my apologies! I thought I had 'warned' you that my Vac will save you a bunch of time! Time you can spend with your family or editing the video, or even catching up on sleep! But less time doing cutouts? How rude of me!!! Seriously though, that was a tough removal and you (as always, well, almost always!) made the difficult look easy. That's the sign of a real expert. Getting comb out of really tight spots like that is really challenging, you're working blind & by feel & the girls can get quite 'testy'.

      You should have sent a planner with the back so I could organize all the extra free time.

    Nice work! Always happy to see a new video from you. Can you explain why the cap colors are different? Is it what is in the cell that's capped? Thanks!

      What’s in the cell does have an effect but most brood cell caps are a shade of light brown.

    Live wires .... I rented a small flat off an electrician. He would come and turn my electric off and not tell us why. Kept getting cross that we turned it back on. One of his lads, after several weeks of this, explained that above my door was a bare live wire that had sent one of his lads across the workroom inside when he touched the wall. Thanks landlord for not telling us about the dangerous live wire touching our building and for not fixing it for several weeks.
    Never trust wires or that landlord😂😉😍😘 so weird I have met / known loads of electricians and none have been that inconsiderate. May require a Darwin award.
    Thanks for the lovely video 😍😘

      a 110v line "sent one of his lads across the workroom" ?
      someone is telling you stories... unless they were standing in a bathtub full of water at the time

      @@funkyzero UK 230v mains supply not your USA supply sorry ... and I know that room was loaded with metal shelving so probably the metal shelving that he touched. He was bandaged from hospital so I know he had to be treated. The lad I was talking to was a bit worried I would tell landlord that he had said anything. I am sorry but I do believe the lad. He just wanted us to know why the electric kept being switched off. The earthing straps to ground had been severed too we found out later😲

      Makes me laugh how many adapters some companies provide with electrical equipment in the U.K. 😂😉 usually you only need adapters for equipment that they only supply with 240v plugs

    Did my first bee removal of 2019 and my life today. Lucked into catching a swarm that just moved into a soffit. Only thing that’s not good is I don’t think they had a queen.

    I wonder if you could use dental floss passed over the backside of the electrical wire and worked back and forth to seperate it from the hive.
