So, as a SkyTrain rider in Vancouver, what I've seen is that wherever faulty LIM rails and bolts are discovered, that affected part of the LIM rail is removed, and that a slow order is implemented - computer programs trains to run slower in that section. It appears none of this happened on that section of the RT when the crash happened, because you know, it's the TTC, there's pretty much no safety culture at all.
I used to live in Scarborough before moving to Vancouver. I encourage Toronto residents to take a look at the SkyTrain system, it runs very reliably most of the time, and it is what the Scarborough RT could've looked like had it been properly upgraded and maintained, but of course, anti-transit politics got in the way, and so Toronto gets white elephant projects like the Crosstown.

Yes, slow orders should've happened on this line as well ... As a SkyTrain rider from Vancouver, there's no excuse as to why the TTC didn't take action on the tracks. Track maintenance should've happened on this line to prevent the trains from derailing ... unfortunately, way too much negligence was put on this line that ultimately ended the life of this important service.

Perfectly said. I always use Vancouver as the example when people talk about the rt. Vancouver embraced the technology and maintained and expanded their system; Toronto just gave up and threw it in the trash. There was no reson for it.

@@darkclawgreatonenas to be honest the whole idea for using the ICTS trains for line 3 was a bad idea, totally different system and different trains compared to line 1, 2 and 4. The layout for the line was originally designed for streetcars hence the very sharp ear-destroying turns at kennedy and past midland. The vehicles used on line 3 arent the most compatible with that sharp of turns, newer vehicles would not even be able to handle the turns. I can see why they wanted to get rid of it but they would have saved millions if they just extended the subway

@@slowmo0925 who said its not? fact remains that the plant makes power for a lot of people, that output will have to be replaced if the plant get decommissioned, and thats not easy.

Was planned to be a streetcar LRT in the 70s. Ontario pressured a change to this ICTS in 1980. Unfortunately truncated from Malvern as planned to McCowan. Ontario paid for a lot of the construction. The provincial subsidy was cut in the early 90s which was a downfall for TTC. TTC wanted new trains in the 2000s, but needed to renovate the line, particularly the sharp streetcar curves. Transit City had a part for rebuilding RT, but Ford ruined that.

Shes blaming the lack of funding but TTC are constantly upgrading their buses street cars. This is money management within ttc.

Governments are helping buy new vehicles, but there was a provincial subsidy that ended in the early 90s. That led to a downfall of Toronto transit.
